”Before I impart upon you the new Divine Soul Star Pattern, I must first ask you a question.”

Qi Shanye asked solemnly,

”What, Xu Jin, do you think is the difference between Mid-High Tier Star Skills and basic Star Skills?”

”The difference?”

”Surely the power is different, the consumption of Star Power differs, as does the difficulty of execution,” Xu Jin pondered and said.

Qi Shanye slowly shook his head, ”Not entirely, remember ’Star Skills are external, while Star Patterns are internal’?”

”I remember.”

”Star Patterns target or change your Star Power, your inner self, whereas Star Skills are aimed at external targets. Yet Star Skills are, in fact, an external manifestation of Star Patterns from within. Do you understand?”

Qi Shanye spoke.

After pondering for a short moment, Xu Jin suddenly said, ”Teacher, are you suggesting that the difference between Mid-High Tier Star Skills and basic Star Skills lies in the Star Patterns?

That Mid-High Tier Star Skills are merely the state presented after the Star Patterns have changed the internal power?”

A flash of delight crossed Qi Shanye’s eyes; this was not a difficult concept to grasp, but to comprehend it so quickly was quite uncommon.

”Do you now understand the importance of Star Patterns?”

”So, teacher, are you saying Star Patterns are the foundation of all Mid-High Tier Star Skills?” Xu Jin asked.

”It could be said so. At least for our Human Race, or at least at the level I can access, it is so,” Qi Shanye said.

Though claiming to be imparting a new Divine Soul Star Pattern, Qi Shanye did not rush to do so but started explaining these fundamental concepts to Xu Jin.

The Taoist Institute would also usually teach these basics.

But the Institute generally waits until the disciple reaches Star Casting before teaching them. Now that Xu Jin was about to engrave a new Star Pattern on his Divine Soul Star, Qi Shanye had to make things clear, as this was fundamental.

Star Patterns used for Star Casting are typically referred to as Core Star Patterns or Main Star Patterns.

In this world, there are very few Star Patterns that can serve as a Core Main Star Pattern.

The first kind is of the Star Power Type, such as the Great Gathering Star Pattern passed down by the Jinshan Taoist Institute, which can serve as a Core Star Pattern.

Every cultivator, under normal circumstances, must use a Star Power Type Star Pattern for their first Star Casting; otherwise, they cannot cultivate.

Then there are the Divine Soul Power Type Star Patterns, which are incredibly difficult to cultivate. It is known that only the Lingji Star Hall possesses this inheritance, which, to some extent, was one of the reasons behind its downfall.

The third kind is the Special Star Patterns, which include the Mingji Star Pattern.

And other Star Halls have such Special Star Patterns as well.

For example, the Tianyang Star Hall has several Special Star Patterns, one of which is named the Water Elephant Star Pattern.

Hence, in the realm of Sea Exploration, Tianyang Star Hall is extremely powerful.

However, cultivating Special Star Patterns for Star Casting is typically done using the Lower Star Palace, as is the case with Xu Jin’s Mingji Star Pattern.

This means that, compared to ordinary cultivators, it is like casting two stars at the same time, and by the time they reach Refining Star Ninth Layer, it is as if they possess two Refining Star Ninth Layer Star Cores, which naturally makes them very powerful.

However, casting two stars and cultivating two Star Palaces simultaneously signifies double the difficulty of cultivation and double the consumption of cultivation resources.

As a result, within the various Star Palaces, only the very top few talented individuals are imparted with Special Star Patterns for Star Casting, as only they have the cultivation speed to cast two stars and carry out two sets of cultivation at once.

If taught to ordinary disciples, it would be harmful, delaying their cultivation prospects.

What could have been achieved in three years at the Refining Star Ninth Layer Peak actually may require six or even more years.

Ten years later, while others would have reached Nine-star Condensation and begun seeking opportunities to break through to Gathering Battle, the ordinary disciple who studied the Special Star Pattern may have just managed to break through to Star Condensation.

”Teacher, by what you’re saying, don’t I have to cast three stars? Wouldn’t my cultivation difficulty be three times harder than others?” On realizing that all three of his Star Palaces contained Star Patterns, Xu Jin hurriedly asked.

”Theoretically, yes. Originally, I planned to take you to a place of inheritance where, with some risk, you could have had your Divine Soul directly cast a star. But I didn’t expect you to chance upon this great opportunity, causing your Divine Soul Star to directly reach the Third Layer of Refining Star.

Next, you need to cast two stars, which puts you at the same level of difficulty as the talented disciples of other Star Halls.

However, personally, I believe that given your current rate of cultivation, even if you cultivate two major Star Palaces simultaneously, you’ll probably progress faster than others,” Qi Shanye said.

Being praised directly by Qi Shanye made Xu Jin somewhat embarrassed.

”Now let’s continue with Star Patterns, theoretically speaking, there is actually a limit to the number of Star Patterns each person can engrave, and it’s even calculable.”

All cultivators, aside from the Main Star Pattern used for Star Casting, can engrave a new Star Pattern on the light halo of each new layer of the Star Core they cultivate with each additional Refining Star tier achieved.

Thus, a cultivator who has reached Perfection in the Refining Star Ninth Layer can have up to ten Star Patterns.

A cultivator in the Nine-star Condensation can have up to ninety Star Patterns.

Gathering Battle is a watershed; some in the Late Period of Gathering Battle can engrave up to two hundred and seventy Star Patterns, others can engrave up to five hundred and forty or even more.

Qi Shanye explained a great deal, and Xu Jin thoroughly understood, boiling it down to one sentence,

Mid-High Tier Star Skills are actually derived from a combination of basic Star Skills and Star Patterns.

The combinations are intricate and ever-changing, the secret teachings of every major Taoist Institute and Star Hall.

Because each person only gets one chance to attempt a combination of Star Patterns, unless they are willing to start all over again.

It can be said that all sorts of Mid-High Tier Star Skills are paths tread by countless predecessors of every major Star Hall and Taoist Institute.
