Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 1678: Chapter 1678: Confirmed

When the wedding feast was about to begin, the palace sent gifts, with the first being from the Emperor. Everyone was astonished; who would have thought the reward for Su Wanshan would be so substantial?

Then came the gifts from the Empress and the Noble Consort.

The gifts were also extremely generous. This gave everyone a sense of reassurance, prompting many to follow suit.

Some people regretted not forming a family alliance with Su Wanshan.

From the current situation, it’s clear that Su Wanshan has gained the Emperor’s utmost favor.

Fang Pengfei was extremely pleased, already imagining his own future successes.

Su Wanshan declined to drink; although he was a martial artist, he genuinely didn’t like alcohol.

The wedding night was satisfactory for the couple.

The next day, they went to the Imperial Palace to express their gratitude. The Emperor once again bestowed them with gifts.

Fang Qiongyu did not expect to have an opportunity to enter the palace and meet the Emperor and Empress.

She was slightly excited, and the Empress, observing this new bride, felt she was not particularly clever.

Yuanyuan was waiting in Jiaoyang Palace because men were not allowed in the harem, but unexpectedly Eunuch Wan from the Emperor’s side invited her. She could go to the front hall to meet with Su Wanshan.

This was the beginning of their departure, which was also good as it meant distancing themselves from trouble.

The Noble Consort’s outing was quite grand, even though it was only within the palace and not many could witness it.

At the front hall, they met with the couple, but were not required to kneel.

Now it was just the family present. Yuanyuan felt at ease. The Emperor bore no ill will towards the Su Family; if they acted according to the heavens, the Emperor might know, as long as others remained unaware.

Yuanyuan looked at Fang Qiongyu, feeling satisfied. She was young, and without malign influences around her, perhaps she could remain this way.

The two women spoke little, knowing unspoken that the day of their departure was approaching.

Su Wanshan had people to care for him, which reassured Yuanyuan. Next time, she hoped to meet Su Xing, and stability arrangements needed to be made for him as well.

Upon returning, life was unchanged; she had finished all her books and requested from the Empress, only receiving the ”Women’s Precepts.”

Anyway, it served as a pastime. In the end, the Empress even dismissed the idea of giving Yuanyuan any more books to read late at night.

However, she still wanted to make her happy; Yuanyuan was content staying quietly without bothering others.

By May, an imperial decree came, and Su Wanshan was promoted and assigned to the border.

The Lady of the Fang Family came to pay respects, and Fang Qiongyu saw her mother.

Now she was the General’s wife, already outranking her stepmother in status.

If not for Fang Pengfei insisting she come, she wouldn’t tolerate such disdain.

Fang Qiongyu asked the Lady to rest as she had words to exchange with her mother. This was quite normal.

”Xiao Yu, seeing your life like this, I am relieved. You’re leaving in ten days; are all your preparations done?”

”Yes, Mother, you can rest assured.

Mother, will you come with me? The General says we’ll stay there for at least five years.

If you agree, I’ll talk to the General, to let him speak with my father.”

Last time, she had tentatively asked, and Su Wanshan had no objections.

”That would be too troublesome.”

”Mother, why would it be troublesome? It all depends on your decision.”

”Is it possible?” Being here was enough, even if resolved, life remained stifling.

”Mother, go home and wait for news. I’ve brought this up before, and the General has no objections; he said having someone accompany me would be good.”

”Alright. I will go with you.”

”The General will speak to Father, and he will surely agree.”

Indeed, the next day after court, Su Wanshan called on Fang Pengfei.

The two went to a teahouse together.

”Father-in-law, I have a request.”

”Son-in-law, don’t be formal. Tell me what you need, as long as it’s within my power.” Fang Pengfei felt uncertain, as they were leaving, what could it be?

This son-in-law now enjoys immense power, holding significant military authority, representing the Emperor’s trust.

”Father-in-law, we will depart in a few days. I’ll be busy at the border, leaving Xiao Yu alone makes me uneasy. Could you allow her to come with us?

This journey will last several years, and I wish Xiao Yu to have someone close by her side.”

Fang Pengfei thought this wasn’t a big deal. Since the son-in-law used such words, so be it.

”This matches my thoughts; I’d like her to have company, and them living together is a good thing.”

”Thank you, Father-in-law.”

Fang Pengfei returned home and spoke of this.

”My lord, sending your woman away isn’t a good idea, is it?” Mrs. Fang thought if the old woman leaves, taking another concubine would be troublesome.

”What’s wrong with that? Accompanying the young woman is her fortune.”

That night, Fang Pengfei visited, which had been rare since he took these two in, because he felt guilty.

He relayed the decision. ”Although life at the border is rough, leaving Xiao Yu there alone worries me; sending others would not give peace. Besides, Xiao Yu wants you to accompany her.”

”Yes.”

Little Yuyang was delighted to hear the news. Finally, she would leave here, feeling excited at the thought.

Thinking she’d be trapped here forever, she never expected turnaround allowing her to leave.

Watching Fang Pengfei’s expression, she felt down; after saying ”yes”, he just bowed his head, saying nothing more.

”Here’s a thousand taels of silver, keep it with you.” Over there, there’s no worry about food and drink, but still, some silver in hand is wise for leaving.

Little Yuyang didn’t refuse. Only a fool would reject money, right?

Feeling bored, Fang Pengfei left, while Little Yuyang excitedly began packing.

Her daughter told her not to bring too much, leaving ugly and useless items behind, though she decided to bring furs.

Everything valuable was packed into three boxes. Was this acceptable? Could she bring so much? The next day, upon paying respects to the Lady, she heard many sour words.

Little Yuyang kept her head down the entire time, and that was fine. It increased the frustration among the already frustrated women.

Mrs. Fang seemingly forgot, not mentioning living expenses for the ones leaving.

Since they were about to leave, Little Yuyang didn’t care. ”Madam, I need to draw on living expenses.” She hadn’t received her allowance in years.

Mrs. Fang hesitated; other concubines collected theirs on time, but not delivering, they wouldn’t give, which was why she hadn’t received any in years.

”Go inform the accounting office,”

”Madam, you should personally go to the accounting office. I haven’t received my allowance for four years and three months.”

A concubine’s monthly allowance was five taels of silver; four years and three months amounted to quite a sum.

Mrs. Fang clenched her teeth and instructed someone to inform the accounting office.

Little Yuyang cared nothing about this, with plans not having to return for years. Why bother about her mood?

Yuanyuan asked Cui Shanggong to see what items were suitable to bring to the border post. Organize them and make a final reward for the family.
