Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 1673: Chapter 1673: Noble Consort

Su Wanshan also saw the young woman in her extravagant attire.

Looking at her clothing, he was puzzled. How could it be the Noble Consort’s dress?

Their family of three truly lacked ambition; they had never thought of fighting for the status of Noble Consort.

Su Yuanyuan stood gracefully to the side, yet even so, she did not possess that sort of aura. The Noble Consort’s attire was only missing a Phoenix compared to the Empress’s. Though not crimson, it was still quite dignified.

But on a child, it just didn’t give off the same feeling.

Many were bewildered, unable to fathom what the Emperor was really thinking.

The Ten Thousand Saints Festival is the Emperor’s birthday. Originally, today was supposed to be the Empress Dowager’s grandest occasion. But since the Emperor’s mother passed away long ago, after he ascended the throne, all the former Emperor’s women were sent to the Imperial Ancestral Temple for honorable care.

Thus, today lacked that element of gratitude, not even the conferring of consort titles seemed lively.

The officials below could also see that the new Emperor was not fond of such occasions.

The ceremony for conferring consorts was merely the reading of the imperial edict, followed by the arrangements of positions for the three concubines, and then rewards.

Su Yuanyuan was conferred as Noble Consort. Among the other two, one was Consort De and the other Consort Xian, unexpectedly leaving Consort Shu’s position vacant.

Now, the two were even more resentful. Haven’t they been with the Emperor for so many years and bore children? Yet a newly arrived girl is placed above them?

Though deeply unsatisfied, they dared not show it.

Tan Shaoting sat indifferently to one side. He really hadn’t expected that a cultivator from the Cultivation World would become Emperor.

He was truly weary of such a life, initially hoping for a tranquil existence without contention; who knew they actually wanted him dead. Well, so be it.

Now he was at a lofty position, while they were all dead.

Being a cultivator, he attached great importance to karma. Thus, he did not kill anyone, yet ensuring none of them ended well, though internal strife had nothing to do with him.

He was genuinely tired of these women; coming here was already like this, and he couldn’t drive them away.

So, let them stir trouble among themselves; it truly was the only way.

And so, the consort conferring ceremony ended, yet Tan Shaoting still felt weary.

After standing up and leaving, everyone knelt to see him off.

The Emperor departed, the Empress remained, now somewhat more at ease.

The Empress was particularly pleased, now that she was the highest presence.

The feeling of overlooking everyone was truly indescribably wonderful.

The civil and military officials hadn’t received orders from the Empress, thus really could not leave.

The Empress enjoyed this feeling for a while before allowing the ministers to depart.

She smiled while looking at the three women below.

Seeing the twisted faces of the two women, the Empress felt exceptionally satisfied, thinking, did having a son mean they were secure? Things might not necessarily be favorable in the future.

The little girl was so frightened she didn’t even lift her head.

All were within her control, and she would gradually deal with them in time.

”Congratulations, Su.”

Upon the Empress saying this, the other two, though infuriated, had to express themselves.

They respectfully offered salutations to Su Yuanyuan.

Which made the Empress even happier.

Su Yuanyuan softly uttered, ”No need for formalities,” and nothing else.

”All three of you sisters should arrange your palaces and return, and Su’s attendants have now reached Jiaoyang Palace.

Now it’s just the four of us sisters in the harem; settle down, and in a few days, we can gather.”

The three offered salutations and left.

Cui Shanggong followed behind Su Yuanyuan back to Chuxiu Palace.

After Su Wanshan left the Imperial Palace, everyone congratulated him.

He couldn’t feel joyous, just surmising that the Emperor and Empress had some motive; could they possibly want to make Yuanyuan a target?

Thinking of this possibility, Su Wanshan became even more depressed.

Others congratulating him required smiling responses, but he found himself unable to smile.

Others indeed thought Su Wanshan was only acting this way because his daughter’s status had risen.

In every heart, there was disdain. What could such an inexperienced brute amount to?

Su Wanshan, upset, returned home, and it wasn’t until dinner that Su Xing learned of the matter.

”Father, my sister will definitely be fine.” He had grown up following his sister. That gave him absolute confidence.

”Those other two must surely resent your sister.”

”My sister can handle it.”

”Sigh?” Su Wanshan truly felt helpless. The number of sighs in recent times had exceeded those in the first half of his life.

Though Su Xing reassured his father, he had no assurance himself.

Now outside, even if anything occurred, he was powerless to act. Su Xing thought he could only pray daily for his sister’s safety.

Su Yuanyuan arrived at Chuxiu Palace, standing outside were fifteen palace maids. And twenty little eunuchs.

Thinking that serving her required forty people was honestly beyond her previous imaginings.

”Cui Shanggong, I leave everything to you.”

Su Yuanyuan had two palace maids help her remove makeup, bathe and then lay down.

This half-day had been quite tiring.

Once alone in the room, she finally entered the space. She hadn’t eaten anything all morning; the Emperor hadn’t ordered any banquet preparations. And no meals had been sent yet.

But once moved, things would be better. With a small kitchen, she could cook herself.

Su Yuanyuan had heard before that having a small kitchen also depended on status and standing. Well, it seemed her status was quite high now.

After eating to her fill, she came out to lie down, detecting slight noises from outside.

After sleeping, she rose and declined the lunch.

”Consort Su, shall we move ourselves? Consort De and Consort Xian have already moved.”

”Alright then, let’s move.” She agreed, and actions began below.

The Empress watched Su Yuanyuan’s actions with satisfaction; cautious and prudent, was she? That was best; now she seemed well-behaved, just hoping she wouldn’t forget her humble origins if she were favored in the future.

Now she hoped the Emperor and Su Yuanyuan would consummate their marriage, the Emperor hadn’t entered her room in over two years, it was the same for the other two.

Was it because she was older? But why would such a young Emperor remain unmoved?

High status and standing were advantageous indeed. Nothing needed to be done, everything was taken care of.

”Cui Shanggong. Arrange the small kitchen so meals need not be sent from the Imperial Kitchen.”

”Mistress, this?”

”Just arrange it this way.”

”Yes.” Only kitchen-related matters shouldn’t pose any significant issues.

Upon learning of this news, the Empress smiled, still a child, who valued culinary pleasures. She would oblige her, while the other two wouldn’t get such favors. Let them all compete amongst themselves.

Tan Shaoting also received the news; he was indifferent. Selecting Su Wanshan’s daughter was simply because she appealed to him, and besides, he hadn’t involved himself with women in this lifetime.

Having one more woman in the palace was beneficial too, sparing the need for year-end selection.

Upon seeing her before, she was still just a child.

He now wanted to initiate Energy Introduction, but the spiritual energy here was extremely scarce, making it impossible. There wasn’t much in the space either, and having more food didn’t help – he’d forgotten where it had come from.
