Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 715: 715 Good Heart

Su Yuanyuan thought for a moment, then went back inside the house and into the space. She took a bath, changed clothes, and had a meal.

At a quarter past seven, she finally drove off.

When she was about to arrive, she released the promised items. Moreover, she added ten more pounds of sausages and a large piece of smoked meat.

As soon as she arrived at the elderly’s home, she smelled the aroma of food.

Zeng Hongling heard the sound of the car and came out immediately.

”Yuanyuan, you’re finally back. I was worried about you.”

”Why would you worry about me? Come on, let’s quickly move things inside.”

The two of them were quite fast. The old lady sitting inside, with a smile in her eyes, even at her age, was quite adept at judging people. This girl was really straightforward, she always gave more of everything, more than just a little bit.

All the things were put into the cellar as per the old lady’s instructions, although the cellar was a bit damp, having large jars helped a lot.

After unloading the food, the two of them also loaded the three boxes into the car.

”Auntie, we’re leaving now. The cellar is damp, and I’m afraid the grain stored in it might get moldy.”

”Yes, I know that.”

The two declined the old lady’s invitation to stay for a meal and drove away.

”Yuanyuan, I want to eat stewed meat. Stewed smoked meat.”

”No problem, I saved a big piece for you.”

Su Yuanyuan felt that Zeng Hongling was a bit too excited. ”Are you that happy?”

”Yes, very happy. It’s not because I got the phoenix crown, but because I read that diary.”

”The ladies’ lamentations?”

”Sort of, it’s the story of a little girl’s life from childhood to her death.”

”Did you read it as a novel?”

”Yes, the little girl had quite a smooth life. Yuanyuan, I’m starting to believe in destiny now, some people can just live their whole life in wealth and comfort.

But some people have to toil and struggle all their lives. Do you think it could be because of their actions in past lives?

Good deeds accumulated in the past life can lead to peace and joy in this life.”

Su Yuanyuan drove, laughing, ”There really might be such a possibility.”

”So in this life, I want to get rid of my sins.”

Su Yuanyuan laughed heartily at her words, ”Don’t you think living in the moment is the best? Don’t you think the next life is too vague? And more importantly, don’t you think doing meaningful things makes you happy?”

Zeng Hongling laughed too, ”Yes, exactly. Whether it’s the present or the future, one must be kind.”

The two girls didn’t return to the village until almost nine o’clock, only because the items were too precious, they wouldn’t have come back so late otherwise.

The next day, Zeng Hongling got to taste the smoked meat she had been craving for.

”Yuanyuan, this Wild Boar meat is quite delicious too.”

”It’s alright. I’m not too fond of it.”

”The sausages are even tastier, I prefer them.”

”As long as you like them. Go ahead and eat. Let’s rest for a few days.”

Entering the Dog Days, the weather was so hot, and being close to the seaside, the humidity in the air was higher, making it even more uncomfortable.

Zeng Hongling was someone who couldn’t sit still, so after lunch, some kids came to find her to play in the water at the seaside.

”You’re really going to get tanned to the point of being pitch-black.”

”It’s alright. If you’re not going, I’m going.”

Su Yuanyuan couldn’t do much about her. She was originally a petite, pretty girl with delicate skin, but by the end of this summer, she’d probably become a girl with skin like a charcoal block.

Since she was alone at home, she went into the space, as staying there was the most enjoyable for her. So she took a delightful nap. She woke up feeling indescribably good.

When she heard knocking outside, she thought Zeng Hongling had returned. But it turned out to be Feng Shanshan.

”Mr. Su, am I interrupting you?”

”No, please come in.”

The weather was stuffy, but since it was a new house and there weren’t too many miscellaneous items inside, it wasn’t so stifling.

Su Yuanyuan poured a bowl of cooled boiled water for Feng Shanshan.

”The vegetables in our yard are enough to eat now. No need to send more; I know these are for drying and storing to eat in winter. You should dry some too.”

”No need, it’s just me, my yard is big, I’ve planted all vegetables.”

”Thank you.”

”No need to be so polite with me,” Feng Shanshan said with a smile.

The two began to chat about life here. Su Yuanyuan felt that Feng Shanshan was really quite at peace. The young girl didn’t complain about this kind of life, which showed a remarkably good temperament.

”Mr. Su, are you going to sea again this year? It’s been two years, and everyone says the water level is high this year. Be very cautious when going out to sea.”

Feng Shanshan was genuinely concerned. She had heard from the villagers that the past two years had been extremely dangerous for Su Yuanyuan.

With less than a month left until the fifteenth of July, even the young people of the new era believed in the customs here. Afraid something might happen to this reassuring woman.

”I must go, don’t worry, I won’t be in danger. Thank you for your concern.”

Su Yuanyuan didn’t emphasize the survival of their father and son. It wasn’t necessary.

”Mr. Su, you must be careful, the forces of nature are irresistible.”

”Okay, I will be careful.

By the way, will there be a reduction in crop yield in the village this year?” Su Yuanyuan hadn’t gone to see the old village chief yet.

”Yes, everyone’s worried, but there’s nothing that can be done. It’s heard that many villages have suffered disasters.”

The two began to discuss everyone’s concerns.

”Last year, we just barely managed to pay the government grain tax, but it’s unavoidable, the soil quality here is poor. If someone could develop seeds suitable for this soil, that would be great.

Farming is genuinely very hard. But the effort and yield are just not proportional.”

”Yeah. Well, let’s make a call tomorrow and see, I don’t really know about these things either.”

Even if she’s better off than the common folks, she can still have a say. Give it a try. If these rice strains can be developed in advance, it would be beneficial for the country and the people.

After sitting for a while, Feng Shanshan left, and Su Yuanyuan looked at the vegetables she brought over, knowing this girl must have picked out the best ones to give.

Currently, the vegetables aren’t sprayed with pesticides, so pest problems are quite severe. She was also a very straightforward girl.

While she was preparing dinner, she heard a commotion outside. She had been living here for a while but this was the first occurrence of such a situation, so she put down the vegetables she was holding and went out to see.

As she went out the door, she saw two children being carried back.

”Auntie, what’s going on?”

”Hai Shan’s child got cramps in the water; if it weren’t for Mr. Zeng, it’d probably be a case of the elder having to bury the young.”

”Auntie, does this mean the two kids are okay?”

”Yes, thank goodness.”

Su Yuanyuan anxiously made her way through the crowd, but she didn’t see Zeng Hongling.
