Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 706: 706 Hobby

Zeng Hongling chuckled softly, ”I really didn’t notice, I’ve already spent so much money.”

”No worries, I still have some in hand, we can still collect.”

”That’s good, I thought we were ending it just like this.” It’s not easy to find something you enjoy doing, and I don’t want it to just end abruptly.

”No, we won’t. In the future, we’ll just barter and trade. That way, we’ll still have some income. We won’t just sit idly by and eat away our resources.”

Zeng Hongling had no objections. Whatever Su Yuanyuan decided, she’d agree with absolutely.

In the evening, Su Yuanyuan returned with twenty pounds of soybean oil.

”There’s no more enamelware. In the future, we’ll just have to try these food items.”

”You can still get these? Yuanyuan, do you know this place very well?”

”Pretty much, tomorrow I’ll ask if anyone wants pork or beef?”

The space is too much, and grains are not scarce now. Maybe in the future, if we go to the city to trade, we can try.

”Is there even a need to ask? Surely, many people would want to buy.”

”Let’s try. With the current temperature, I didn’t bring it back.”

Early the next morning, Su Yuanyuan drove away alone. She returned with fifty pounds of pork, fifty pounds of beef, and fifty pounds of lard.

”I thought about it and decided to bring some over to try. It’s just that the weather is too hot, and I’m afraid they’ll spoil.”

The two girls had already arranged the location, so an hour later, they arrived.

They directly found the village chief, and Su Yuanyuan explained her purpose.

”Village chief, we brought enamelware, pork, beef, lard, and soybean oil.

Each household can bring old items. After we appraise them and the people agree to sell, they can choose money or items.”

”Alright, that’s a good thing. I’ll let everyone know right away. Mainly because of the meat, I’m afraid it will spoil by noon.”

Su Yuanyuan thanked the person with a smile, truly understanding people.

The two set up at the entrance of the brigade department, borrowing a table and benches. They moved out the enamelware, oil, and meat.

They divided the work, organized everything, and someone came by.

It was during working hours, but the village chief was tempted by the meat and notified everyone.

Seeing the meat displayed on the table, no one wasn’t interested.

In just ten minutes, the two of them were surrounded tightly.

”Everyone quiet, we’re here to collect old items. Anything you have at home, you can bring to exchange.

You can exchange for meat, oil, enamelware. If you don’t want those, you can ask for money.”

Just after Su Yuanyuan finished speaking, everyone turned around and hurried away.

The first to run over was a young bride. She carried two vases, with a man holding a baluster vase behind her.

”Comrade, can you take a look at our items? My grandma gave these to me, they should be very old.”

Zeng Hongling loved porcelain the most and first examined the pair of blue and white vases.

”Hmm. Very good, this pair can be valued at fifty.”

Su Yuanyuan didn’t immediately tell the young couple but waited for her evaluation of the vases.

”This pair of vases can be valued at one hundred, but there’s a slight crack near the rim, devaluing them significantly. At most, they’re worth forty.”

”Can you collect damaged ones?”

”This pair has been repaired. There’s no issue collecting them. They won’t be damaged again.”

Only then did Su Yuanyuan talk to the young couple about them.

”Sell them, of course. We want five pounds of lard, one pound of pork, two pounds of soybean oil, an enamel plate, three enamel basins, two enamel mugs, and the rest in money.”

Su Yuanyuan felt a bit troubled. They didn’t have a scale.

”Wait, I have one at home. You can borrow it.” The young bride was indeed a helpful person.

Everyone was even more excited seeing those four vases sell for ninety yuan. No one doubted anymore that the two girls were frauds.

The lard was the first to be exchanged till it was gone. The pork and beef quickly sold out after the lard was gone.

The later the people came, the more they wanted items rather than money.

The enamelware was definitely more expensive than what was sold at Taolin Port yesterday. However, it was still more cost-effective than buying at the co-op. More importantly, you could buy more without restrictions.

What they collected the most were Copper Coins and silver coins, not many old items.

There were some enamel basins left in the end; they packed up and drove home.

”Yuanyuan, it’s all Copper Coins, what use is it?”

”Hongling, haven’t you learned to identify Copper Coins? I think these Copper Coins should have some age.”

Zeng Hongling shook her head, ”I really haven’t learned, but my grandpa might know a bit. I’ll write to him and ask.”

”In the future, we won’t collect Copper Coins, but we can take some silver coins.” Su Yuanyuan didn’t think Copper Coins would be worthless in the future, but mainly because they were too heavy and space-consuming.

They returned home just as the sky began to darken. The village elders, women, and children were outside enjoying the cool breeze.

Seeing the car return, ”Xiao Su is back.”

”This young woman will still go to the sea this year, it’s been almost two years now, can she find anything?”

”No one dares to persuade her, just let her be. She believes her husband and children aren’t dead, and it supports her to keep going.”

”Isn’t it? It’s really tough for women. Looking at her, she probably isn’t planning to remarry, she still looks young.”

Everyone was discussing as the two of them began moving things into the house, then one boiled water while the other prepared to cook.

They went directly for rice water soup, soaking in the cool water from the well, satisfying.

Just as they boiled the water, they heard a knock at the door; it was Feng Shanshan bringing them cucumbers.

”Thanks, Xiao Feng, we were just out of vegetables at home.”

”I brought you pickles too. It’s another flavor.”

”Xiao Feng, have you eaten? Join us for a meal,” Zeng Hongling invited with a smile.

”I’ve already eaten. You two go ahead and eat, and get some rest early.”

The two ate in the courtyard. ”Yuanyuan, this Xiao Feng is really nice.”

”Do you have a liking for her?”

Zeng Hongling nodded, ”Yes, I think she’s an honest girl, very likable.”

Su Yuanyuan knew Zeng Hongling was particularly sensitive, meaning Feng Shanshan must be quite good.

So I’ll help her out then. Only Hu Zi seems to have seen her, but over two years have passed. The young girl has darkened quite a bit, likely changed a lot. Hu Zi might not recognize her.

The next day, the two didn’t go out. They were thinking about going to the city in a few days.

However, that would be much more dangerous. Both of them felt they could trade for more books, calligraphy, and paintings in the city, certainly more than in the countryside. Now, the two didn’t really want to collect porcelain anymore.
