Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 381: 381 Train

”Aunt, I know, I’ll be careful. I’m just going over there to see how my younger sister is doing.

She always reports the good news, not the bad. If we don’t see it with our own eyes, we’ll never be at ease.”

”Sure, go ahead. I will definitely take good care of your eldest sister.”

So in the afternoon, Zhao Yanli went to the train station and bought a ticket for three days later, just in time to catch the child’s twelfth-day celebration.

Everything was arranged here, so Zhao Yanli helped out at home. There really was a lot to do, with ten tables to set up. There really were a lot of people.

Neighbors from around came over to help, and they even found a famous local chef. Zhao Yanli’s job was to watch over Hai Yan and do some manageable chores.

Zhang Fusheng prepared an especially lavish spread this time; he was truly happy from the heart.

This day, you could say, was filled with high-profile guests, bustling with excitement for the child’s twelfth-day celebration.

This day was truly tiring, but everyone was happy, especially Mrs. Zhang, who couldn’t wipe the smile off her face.

At dinner, the whole family was very tired. So Zhao Yanli just heated up the leftover dishes from lunch.

”Xiao Li, you must be careful on the train tomorrow. There are many pickpockets and traffickers,” Zhang Fusheng advised his sister-in-law.

”I know. I bought a sleeper ticket. I’ll just lie down, only getting up for a meal in the dining car.”

”Yes, keep your eyes open. Don’t trust anyone too easily.”

”Got it.”

After breakfast the next day, Zhao Yanli refused Zhang Fusheng’s offer to see her off and walked to the train station by herself.

There was still an hour to go, so she wasn’t in a rush. She sat in the waiting hall, watching the comings and goings of people. She found it quite interesting.

She actually spotted a pickpocket, but before she could shout, the pickpocket was caught.

It was really quite impressive. The police in plain clothes were waiting here.

That’s how it should be, preventing pickpockets from running rampant. Honestly, anyone would be anxious and angry if their money was stolen.

Seeing the pickpocket was just a young guy, she really thought it was a pity. Why do this when you have healthy limbs? Isn’t it better to earn an honest living?

After watching long enough, she heard the announcement that the train had arrived. It was time to board the platform.

Zhao Yanli was especially excited now. She could finally experience the sleeper berth, something she had never had the chance to try before.

After getting on excitedly, she found that she was alone.

That made Zhao Yanli even more satisfied. This way, she felt very free. Although she wasn’t as independent as Su Yuanyuan, she still preferred being by herself.

She tidied up the lower bunk, folded her coat neatly, and set it aside. Only then did she go out to get water, placing her lunch box and tea mug on the table.

Once everything was in order, she removed her jacket but left her padded coat on and lay down on the bed.

Accountant Zhang started with four cars. Without snow impeding them, they reached the farm very smoothly.

He led two cars to stop at Li Hongxiang’s doorstep.

Xu Hongbing heard the noise and hurried out.

”Accountant Zhang, are these two cars for us?”

”Yes. They’re both yours. I still need the other two cars to go to the field headquarters.”

The drivers who drove over this time had been here before, so they knew the way quite well.

”Mr. Li, we better wait for my brother-in-law to come over.”

”Alright. I’ll drive over to call people. We’ll unload the cars as previously arranged.”

They had already discussed before Zhao Yanli left how to divide the fertilizer if it were ten tons or twenty tons.

Li Hongxiang drove to find Zhao Qingxiang.

They met halfway. Zhao Qingxiang had seen two trucks heading to the field headquarters and knew that the fertilizer truck must have arrived, so he hurriedly hitched up a cart and called his second brother. Together, they drove a cart over.

This was even better. They had three young, strong men, so there was no need for Li Hongxiang to do much.

Everything was divided according to the previously agreed quantities. Whatever was left over was for their two brothers.

Because their brother-in-law was part of the transport team, the Zhao family was especially close to the drivers.

The cooking was done by Zhao Xiaojing. Although she was stingy, she wasn’t too bad.

Accountant Zhang took the two trucks to the field headquarters.

Feng Baoshan saw the two trucks and was quite satisfied.

There were people unloading, so he talked about what happened at the fertilizer factory.

”Everything was arranged by that girl, Zhao Yanli. She found old acquaintances, and Zhang Fusheng directly allocated two trucks.”

”Alright, got it.”

”Also, Zhao Yanping is about to give birth. Might have already given birth by now.”

”Giving birth?” Feng Baoshan asked.

”Yes, you should have seen how truly happy Zhang Fusheng was.”

”Alright, I got it. The field headquarters should arrange for two hundred pounds of white flour to be sent over.” Everyone understood clearly that they hadn’t taken any advantage of the situation; they were purely helping out.

One can’t be foolish. If you want to maintain long-term relationships, you should know how to cultivate them.

”I’ll arrange for the flour.”

”Go ahead, put it on the truck. Let’s have dinner at my house today.”

It wouldn’t do to have people go to the Zhao family for dinner. Besides, Feng Baoshan wanted the driver to take a five-yuan gift over.

After unloading the trucks on Zhao’s side, they began loading grain onto the truck. Zhao Yanli was right: each of the two brothers gave two bags of white flour and a bag of cornmeal, both finely ground.

The drivers were all quite envious. You see how their in-laws handle things? There’s really no comparison.

They went to Xu Hongbing’s house for a meal and received the same treatment. Zhao Yanli gave the same amount, all kept at Second Sister’s place.

Everyone knew Zhao Yanping needed to eat. Li Hongxiang, like the Zhao sisters, not only gave food but also a five-yuan cash gift.

The four drivers talked about this matter when they stopped midway to refuel.

”Brother Zhang’s whole family doesn’t need to buy grain for a year now.”

”Exactly. Thought there was nothing here at the farm, but food is the most substantial thing.”

Zhao Yanli felt utterly uncomfortable after lying on the train for three days. For someone who’s always followed by chores, lying down for three days is not enjoyable at all.

Being all alone was too lonely, so she longed for someone to come into the compartment, with whom she could chat, right?

In the evening, two young men finally came in.

Zhao Yanli frowned, thinking it would have been better if they were older men, middle-aged, or women, so it would be easier to talk to them. She felt a bit embarrassed at the thought of chatting up two young guys.

Moreover, judging by their demeanor, they didn’t seem easy to talk to, with no expressions on their faces.

She stared at the upper berth, hoping another person, preferably a woman, would come in; that would be easier to talk to.

The entire next day, those two didn’t make a sound.

In her mind, Zhao Yanli grumbled that these two might be mute. She worked up the courage to speak, but seeing their expressionless faces, she lost her nerve and couldn’t open her mouth.
