Chapter 569: Chapter 569: Sudden Attack

Machete Girl: It really does seem to be him. The outfit and overall look match how he appeared in the original books.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: But compared with the book version, doesn’t his beard look a little longer now?

Although Remus Lupin in the original Harry Potter books also had a beard, it was clearly not the same unkempt kind seen on screen. That’s why the people in the livestream chat didn’t recognize him right away.

Lazy Kitten: Not only is his beard long, but his clothes look like they haven’t been washed in weeks.

Doujin Artist: He is pretty scruffy. It’s hard to imagine that a guy like this will eventually marry a beautiful woman.

Eriri shook her head, feeling a little wistful.

If she put herself in that woman’s place, she definitely wouldn’t fall for a man like this. It wasn’t about whether he was poor. It was about his attitude toward life. No matter how poor someone was, they should at least keep themselves clean. What was with being such a slob?

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: Damn it, this guy isn’t even half as handsome as yours truly! How can someone like him get married? I just don’t understand!

Curly-haired Guy: Damn, his wife is Tonks, right? The naturally metamorphic Muggle-born witch, and a member of the Order of the Phoenix?

Soul Society’s Villain: Huh, Gin, you actually remember that pretty clearly.

Curly-haired Guy: Hmph. Gin-san was born with a genius memory!

This is an Actor: Oh? This so-called memory genius can’t even use common idioms properly?

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Obviously, Gin’s just bragging. The only reason he remembers Tonks is probably because he’s interested in that girl, right?

Curly-haired Guy: W-What do you mean, interested? Am I really that kind of person?

Doujin Artist: Obviously, you are. And I have to admit, Tonks has a fantastic figure. Curves in all the right places, and long legs too.

Machete Girl: She’s pretty, too.

Wig Guy: Hmm, if I remember correctly, there was quite a big age gap between her and Lupin, right? With such great looks and conditions, why would she fall for an old guy like him?

Lin Fengjiao: Maybe that’s what true love is?

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: No, no, no! I refuse to believe this is some damn ”true love”! It’s a conspiracy, that’s what it is! Little Tonks must have been brainwashed, absolutely!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: The way you’re acting like a jealous lemon is really ugly, Mr. Deadpool.

Pretty Boy from Skull Island: A man ruled by jealousy!

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: Jealousy? Damn it, you actually think I would be jealous of some scruffy old man like that? Seriously? How little do you think of me?

Doujin Artist: You’ve got it wrong, Mr. Deadpool. We think you’re jealous of Tonks.

Machete Girl: Hahahaha, holy crap!

Lazy Kitten: What the hell, jealous of Tonks? Hahahaha!

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: We can’t be friends anymore, Little Lili. I hereby solemnly declare that we’re breaking up today!

Doujin Artist: I’m dying. You say that as if we were ever close.

Comments flew all over the livestream chat. Meanwhile, Lupin, who had unknowingly become the subject of the broadcast, looked somewhat excited. After packing his travel bag, he crouched down and took a brand-new letter from a drawer locked on the side.

The drawer was supposedly locked, but the lock was already mostly rusted through. A light twist would have made it fall right off. So locking it was completely pointless, but Lupin seemed to care a great deal about the ritual.

It was as if, to him, failing to lock away this letter would be an insult to how precious it was.

He exhaled.

Lupin took a deep breath, unfolded the letter, and gently ran his fingers over every word as if he were touching a treasure.

Dear Mr. Lupin,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as Hogwarts’ new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Please come to Hogwarts before the start of the school year in early September to complete the hiring formalities.

, Sincerely, your friends, Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall

After reading the letter again, Lupin trembled all over with excitement. It wasn’t a dream. This really wasn’t a dream! Merlin, he could finally leave this miserable place!

As a werewolf hiding among humans, Lupin’s life could only be described as desperately poor.

Nowhere in the wizarding world was there a department or institution willing to hire an unstable werewolf.

With no other choice, Lupin had spent the past several years hiding on the edge of Albania’s dark forests, surviving by gathering herbs and alchemical ingredients.

Yes, this could hardly be called living... It was more like survival.

After all, selling these materials through legitimate channels required a certificate issued by the Ministry of Magic. Without one, Lupin could only sell them on the black market.

And the black-market dealers were all heartless crooks. They usually bought what Lupin gathered for only about a tenth of its market value.

But Lupin had no choice. What else could he do besides deal with those greedy merchants? He was a werewolf, an outsider in the eyes of wizards.

That was why he was so excited when he received the appointment letter.

Hogwarts recognizing him meant that he could finally return openly to the wizarding world he had been away from for so long.

Of course.

Lupin also knew that the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor had been cursed by Voldemort. After all, he had been a member of the Order of the Phoenix when he was young. Those secrets were not hidden from him.

But so what?

Compared with Voldemort’s curse, he thought his current life was far more frightening.

”I never want to stay in this miserable place again. Ever!” Lupin put down the letter and clenched his fists, his eyes filled with determination.

But at that moment, he failed to notice the black void that suddenly opened behind him.

”My dear friend, I’m afraid you won’t get your wish.” A sinister voice sounded behind him, and Lupin froze.

”Full Body-Bind!”

A sharp voice rang out. By the time Lupin realized what was happening, his entire body had gone rigid.

Step, step, step.

Unhurried footsteps came around behind him. A somewhat short, chubby figure slowly entered his view and picked up the appointment letter from the table.

”Our great master really can see everything coming. You really were appointed professor by Dumbledore, my dear friend.”

The figure slowly turned his head. Lupin was left shaken to the core.

”You?!”
