Chapter 564: Chapter 564: The Teng Snake Appears

In the dim underground square, cultists crowded together.

At the command of the High Elder on the platform, several teenage boys and girls tied to a wooden frame were pushed forward.

Clearly, they had all been carefully prepared as sacrifices.

They had just turned fifteen, and all had been born during the second half of the night on September 9. By using their blood to nourish the Flower of the Holy Spirit, Xu Jie would then swallow its petals and gain the power of the Evil Spirit Church’s totem.

By then, even if that special mutant beast from the special operations team appeared, he would be able to capture it with ease.

Yes, capture it.

Xu Jie had never planned to kill the special operations team’s mutant beast. He wanted to capture it instead. The value of a special mutant beast was beyond measure. If they could tame it, it would surely give their church an unmatched boost in power.

Well, his plan certainly sounded perfect.

But just as the ritual was about to begin, a terrifying roar suddenly rang out.

”A-a tiger?”

When Tiger Girl appeared before them, the members of the Evil Spirit Church all stared in shock. Before they could do anything, the priests presiding over the ritual had already been killed by her claws.

”Damn it. Is that the special mutant beast from the special operations team?” Hong Rou looked stunned, her face filled with disbelief.

That kind of strength and speed, along with the ability to turn invisible, clearly meant it was no ordinary mutant beast.

”Stay calm!” Xu Jie was worthy of being the Evil Spirit Church’s High Elder. He quickly recovered and shouted, ”Don’t panic! Listen to my orders!”

Boom!

The instant he finished speaking, a thunderous crash came from the basement door.

Led by Li Yaran, dozens of fully armed special operations soldiers appeared before the cultists.

”You’re all under arrest! Anyone who resists will be killed!”

”Hmph. The people of my holy church have never heard of surrender.” Xu Jie let out a cold laugh and suddenly raised both arms, spreading his fingers.

Seeing his movement, Li Yaran’s pupils narrowed. Without hesitation, she gave the order:

”Open fire!”

Rat-tat-tat!

Bullets poured out, shooting toward the cultists in front of them and Xu Jie and the others on the platform. But a transparent, blood-red shield suddenly appeared.

Clang, clang, clang!

The bullets struck the shield like they had hit the hardest steel, sending sparks flying. At the same time, long, bright-red tentacles stretched out from the center of the shield like snakes, sweeping toward the special operations soldiers.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The soldiers struck by the tentacles were sent flying and crashed to the ground in a scattered heap.

”Pathetic little tricks.” Xu Jie curled his lips in contempt.

But the moment he finished speaking, a clothed stuffed cat suddenly appeared behind him and slapped him hard in the middle of the back with one tiny paw.

Thud!

Xu Jie felt a tremendous force hit him from behind. He fell flat on his face like a dog scrambling for food. He turned his head in disbelief, his face filled with terror.

”What?”

A cat. A pet cat wearing clothes.

That was what he saw before him. Had this cat really just knocked him flat?

Xu Jie stared blankly, suddenly questioning everything he knew about life.

But Qi Luoli, standing across from him, clearly had no intention of letting such a perfect chance to kick him while he was down pass by. The little cat’s body shot forward again.

”Damn you! You’re just a cat!” The veins on Xu Jie’s forehead bulged as he spread his arms.

Another transparent, blood-red shield condensed in front of him, clearly much thicker than the previous one. But the little cat did not seem to care in the slightest. She slammed one paw into the shield.

Boom!

Xu Jie was sent flying again like a cannonball, his body crashing hard into the wall behind him. With two wet thuds, he dropped to the floor like a falling object, spitting out two mouthfuls of blood.

”How could this happen?” Horror filled Xu Jie’s face, and his eyes were full of disbelief.

He had always been confident in his ability. He believed even a tank shell might not be able to pierce his shield. Yet now, a little cat had shattered it with a casual slap.

Was this damn thing really a cat?

”Wait.” Xu Jie seemed to realize something and suddenly understood. ”You’re the special mutant beast Liu Chenghui was talking about?”

”Obviously! Of course it’s me!” the little cat replied proudly. To Xu Jie, however, it sounded like nothing more than an ordinary meow.

Damn it!

After personally experiencing Qi Luoli’s strength, Xu Jie had no choice but to admit that the special operations spy he had killed had not exaggerated at all. This cat truly was a terrifying mutant beast, far beyond anything he could fight.

Would he have to use that move?

Xu Jie took a deep breath and struggled to his feet.

”You forced me to do this!”

As he spoke, he slowly opened his outer robe.

What the hell? Was this guy trying to flash me?

Qi Luoli was completely stunned. She wondered whether she should cover her eyes.

But she soon realized that the Evil Spirit Church’s High Elder, whose face was covered in age spots, was twisting like a water snake. The tattoos on his body were also gradually beginning to glow.

Whoosh!

A blood-red beam of light, shaped like a tentacle, suddenly shot out from his chest.

The little cat instinctively raised both front paws to block it, but the impact sent her whole body flying. In midair, she saw a huge snake’s head slowly emerge from Xu Jie’s body.

”Hahahaha! The Holy Spirit has descended once again!”

”Our great Holy Spirit! Our invincible Holy Spirit!”

The moment they saw the giant snake, all the cultists stopped what they were doing, fell to their knees, and began worshiping it wildly.

”Y-you’ve got to be kidding!”

”Is that the Teng Snake?”

The special operations team was equally stunned. Even Li Yaran, their captain, had never imagined that the special mutant beast known as the Teng Snake had been kept inside someone’s body.

And when its true form appeared, everyone felt as if a heavy stone had been placed on their hearts.

That was only natural.

After all, everyone had some degree of fear when it came to enormous creatures, especially when that creature was a fifty-meter-long scarlet serpent.

”I was so close to completing my transformation.”

Xu Jie’s voice was hysterical. The instant he released the Teng Snake, he seemed to lose his mind completely.

”You fools looking for death! You just had to come and interfere. Then use your lives to witness it. Witness the birth of our great Holy Spirit!”

”Shut up, you idiot!” Qi Luoli cursed at him before turning her eyes toward the enormous creature in front of her. ”Damn it, if you’re going to play like this, you better pay me extra.”

”Luoli...” Seeing the cat she served standing off against the giant snake, looking like an ant beside it, Ye Rong felt her heart tighten.
