Chapter 164: Chapter 164: The Invisible Empire

Curly-haired Guy: A gift?

Doujin Artist: What kind of gift are we talking about? Can you give us a spoiler?

This is an Actor: Like making his artificial heaven project completely fall apart. That should be quite the surprise for him.

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: For sure.

Doujin Artist: He might be so surprised he has a heart attack.

That artificial heaven project is Aleister’s lifeline. He gave up his wife and daughter for it. His whole life’s dream depends on that plan. If it gets ruined, he might as well die on the spot.

This is an Actor: I think so too, but I still need some time before I can leave this place.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: So Anran-san, does that mean... you’re coming to my side?

This is an Actor: Yep. But if Ruiko doesn’t want me there, then never mind.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Of course not!

Doujin Artist: Exactly! There’s no way Ruiko-chan wouldn’t welcome you! She might even be so happy she’d hand over her whole harem to you!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: I told you it’s not a harem! What’s wrong with you, A-ri-chan?!

Pretty Boy from Skull Island: Hey everyone, check out my sword. \[Image]

Doujin Artist: ?

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: ?

Machete Girl: That’s a sword?

Katsura Kotonoha’s mouth twitched hard, face full of black lines. That so-called ”sword” looked like it was made from some unknown beast bone in a weirdly creative way by Kongou.

But judging by its shape, it looked more like... a certain unspeakable part of the male body rather than a sword. It was honestly painful to look at.

Wig Guy: I gotta correct you, Rati-san. That’s not a sword. That’s a cannon—New Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon.

Curly-haired Guy: Honestly, the craftsmanship is pretty impressive.

Pretty Boy from Skull Island: Alright, maybe I’m just not cut out for forging.

Doujin Artist: What forging talent are you talking about?! You’re a freaking Kongou! You don’t need blacksmithing skills! Just go jerk off on top of the Empire State Building in America or something!

Pretty Boy from Skull Island: Rati wouldn’t do that. Rati wants to be a gentle Kongou, like Mr. Anran.

Curly-haired Guy: Whoa, are you joking?! Just look at you—you don’t look gentle at all! Don’t give up your own style, dumbass!

Pretty Boy from Skull Island: And that’s exactly the kind of ”style” that made people stereotype what a Kongou is, right? What Rati wants to do is change that.

Curly-haired Guy: Holy crap, are you really Rati? Or are you a human wearing a gorilla suit pretending to be a Kongou?

Even Sakata Gintoki was shocked. Words with that much meaning... a Kongou actually said that?

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Don’t underestimate Rati. He might look like a gorilla, but he’s actually really smart. Over this time, we’ve all seen him grow and change with our own eyes, haven’t we?

Doujin Artist: Yeah! And he’s changing super fast!

Pretty Boy from Skull Island: Hehe, it’s all thanks to learning from you guys and Mr. Anran.

This is an Actor: And also from your own hard work. Unohana, what did Mayuri say?

Corpse Society’s Villain: Just like you predicted, he’s interested. Right now, it looks like he’s working on a device that can invade the Shadow Dimension.

Why ”looks like”?

Because from Unohana Retsu’s point of view, Mayuri was slowly slicing open his own stomach, pulling out his organs one by one, and placing them into some kind of special container.

Then, he put the container into some kind of device that was glowing with a blue light, watching the data on the monitor with a look of excitement on his face.

The whole thing gave off a strange, sacred feeling.

It was clearly a scientific experiment, but it felt more like some kind of cult ritual.

Is he... researching some kind of machine?

Unohana Retsu wasn’t so sure anymore.

”Don’t doubt it, Captain Unohana.”

Noticing her confused look, Mayuri spoke in his hoarse voice, ”I really am studying a way to invade the Shadow Realm. But if we want to squeeze a body into something as formless as a shadow, we have to first test how much pressure the organs can take.”

Normally, Mayuri wouldn’t bother explaining anything to others. But Unohana Retsu was different—he actually had respect for this captain who had survived for over a thousand years.

Of course, that only applied as long as she didn’t interrupt his experiments. Not even the Soul King himself could help if someone messed with that.

”I see. Please continue, then,” Unohana nodded, turning her gaze back to the glowing screen in front of her.

Doujin Artist: Infiltrating the Shadow Realm? Is Anran-san planning to go to war with the Wandenreich?

The Wandenreich, also known as the Quincy Empire under Yhwach’s rule.

A thousand years ago, they were completely crushed in the bloody war by the Gotei 13 led by old man Yamamoto.

With only a thread of life left, Yhwach took the remaining Quincies and hid inside the poorly guarded Seireitei. He then built a reishi-based space inside the shadows of Seireitei, which is why they’re now called the ”Invisible Empire.”

Within the Wandenreich, the stronger Quincies were gathered to form the Sternritter. The emperor, Yhwach, gave each of them a letter and power that matched it.

This is an Actor: It’s not me. This is a full-on war between the Gotei 13 and the Quincies. If it were up to me to handle the Quincies, I wouldn’t need to wait for Mayuri’s research.

His space abilities also work on shadows, so I could just tear through and enter the Wandenreich directly.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Maybe so, but this whole situation happened because of you, didn’t it? If you hadn’t told Unohana to warn Mayuri, the Soul Reapers might’ve never found out there was an Invisible Empire inside the shadows.

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: That’s true. In the original story, the Soul Reapers only realized what was happening after the Wandenreich officially declared war—and even then, they were super slow to react.

Machete Girl: Anran-san must’ve done this for a reason, right?

This is an Actor: Yeah. For example, I’m really curious...

If the Hogyoku were to absorb Yhwach, the Soul King’s son—just how far would Aizen evolve?
