The Deadly Hitwoman: The Heiress's Special Abilities

Chapter 542: Chapter 542: The Secret of Consort Li

”So, that’s how it is. Where is she now?” Han Jing asked curiously.

”Well...” Qin Shutong paused for a moment, ”She left Capital City over twenty years ago. When she left, there was snow, even though it was early summer, a season when snow was impossible. But that day’s snow was vast and white, covering the entire Capital City with a thick layer of white.”

Therefore, he always remembered that day clearly, and it was also the day his father emperor passed away.

It was the day he ascended the throne, taking control of Dong Qin Country.

He even knew that his father emperor’s death was connected to Consort Li, but at that time, his father had become infatuated with Consort Li. Had the father emperor been alive, the ones dead might have been them instead. His father emperor, in his pursuit of Consort Li, was willing to kill his own father and the imperial grandfather. Upon discovering the affair between Consort Li and Ninth Imperial Uncle, he used Ninth Imperial Uncle to threaten Consort Li, and eventually killed Ninth Imperial Uncle. His mother was imprisoned in the Cold Palace, and the harem was in chaos. The entire court was filled with panic. His father’s reign lasted merely nine months, but Dong Qin Country was shrouded in gloom, and in the Capital City, everyone was in peril.

Having experienced such chaos, one realizes how terrifying and precarious those times were.

Consort Li left the Capital City that day, and he ascended the throne at the tender age of ten. Since that day, he had never seen Consort Li again. He heard from Xichen that Han Litong was still alive, although Xichen seemed somewhat critical of Han Litong. When he tried to inquire about her, Xichen refused to say more.

He always remembered Han Litong’s appearance, with her goddess-like beauty and transcendent presence, indeed enough to drive two generations of kings to madness. Yet, his desire to see Consort Li again was driven by a secret about her, a very important secret that even she was unaware of.

Thus, when he met Han Jing, he was surprised, suspecting she might be the child in Consort Li’s womb from back then.

He had seen the young Qing Jue, who, though beautiful, resembled Ninth Imperial Uncle more than Consort Li.

It was Qing Jue’s resemblance to Ninth Imperial Uncle that led his father to discover the affair between Consort Li and Ninth Imperial Uncle, ultimately wishing to bring about Ninth Imperial Uncle’s demise.

Eventually, Ninth Imperial Uncle indeed died at his father’s hands, killed in Consort Li’s presence.

However, these matters, uncertain if the girl before him was the child from back then, would not be revealed to her.

Upon hearing Qin Shutong’s words, Han Jing exclaimed with surprise, ”What a strange event! Snow in summer?”

Yet, in her heart, there was an undeniable stir, a possibility that she might truly be connected to Han Litong. Her mother had told her that she found her in the woods outside Capital City in Dong Qin Country. The day she was found was early summer, but there was a heavy snowfall. She was evidently just born, her body somewhat purple, wrapped and abandoned by the roadside, no evidence of her identity, the only link being the birthmark she once had on her face, now gone.

She never cared about her origins, so... she never thought to investigate the truth.
