Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 290: Chapter 290: As Soon as It’s Said, It’s Here

Cheng Su hadn’t expected the opportunity she was waiting for to arrive so quickly, and it was Ning Ge who brought back the good news.

At the end of October, there was a diplomatic conference with the United Kingdom in Beijing. The guests included high-ranking figures like the Prime Minister, so the reception’s catering required strict standards that emphasized Chinese-Western fusion. Ning Ge planned to get their local jam, the Joy Soon Loy jam, onto the food ingredient list for the event.

”Really? That’s a foreign country, and Joy Soon Loy was established only recently. Can our jam make the cut?” Cheng Su was also very excited.

If the selection process accepted Joy Soon Loy’s jam, using it to serve foreign guests would undoubtedly be a huge promotional opportunity for them!

”I have a childhood friend whose dad works in the Foreign Ministry. I told him that if he doesn’t help me achieve this little wish, I will cut ties with him—that would be the end of our brotherly relationship!” Ning Ge said proudly.

Cheng Su mildly scolded, ”Who blackmails their friends like that? Aren’t you afraid of losing the friendship?”

”I was just speaking rhetorically. Zhong Qing and I have been tight since we were kids, getting into all sorts of mischief—to steal chickens... cough, and getting into fights and having fun with girls. His dad has watched me grow up; this small matter is nothing worry about,” Ning Ge boasted with a cheer.

”That’s fine and all, but you also have to consider the other person’s position and not put them in a difficult spot. In business, losing money is one thing, but losing a relationship is a true loss, especially such a personal connection,” Cheng Su shook her head and said, ”Since Joy Soon Loy was just established, it will shine if it’s true gold. We are in no hurry. If it doesn’t happen, we shouldn’t force it.”

Ning Ge felt a warmth in his heart. This was one of the things he admired about Cheng Su—her high emotional intelligence and knowing what was important and what could wait.

”Don’t worry, I’m not hell-bent on sealing the deal. If we send our jam for consideration, we’ll definitely follow the procedures. Whether it gets used or not will all depend on whether our quality is up to standard!” Ning Ge said, ”A little notification is just meant to increase our chances.”

Cheng Su was aware of the intricacies involved. Having someone with influence was beneficial, and if their Joy Soon Loy jam was of high quality and supported by someone influential, their chances would certainly be greater.

”You’ve really put in the hard work this time!” Cheng Su said with a smile, giving a thumbs up.

To her surprise, Ning Ge raised an eyebrow and shook a stack of papers, ”Take a look at these before you praise me.”

Cheng Su took them and her eyes widened; they were all orders.

”Where did these come from?” Cheng Su’s eyes lit up.

”Didn’t I take two boxes to give away as gifts when I visited my brother last time? Well, someone liked them and asked my brother about it, which in turn scored us some business!” Ning Ge said with pride.

Cheng Su frowned slightly, ”Won’t this affect your brother?”

Ning Ge felt even warmer inside as he replied, ”Not at all. Don’t underestimate my brother; he’s a sly fox. When others asked him, he played dumb and just said it was something I gave him. So they came asking me instead!”

”You shouldn’t speak about your brother that way. It’s disrespectful,” Cheng Su chided.

”Besides, these orders are from my other friends. Some of them own bars, some run restaurants. It’s only natural to support my buddies in their business ventures!” Ning Ge continued.

Looking at the stack of orders, Cheng Su laughed, ”Well, that settles it. Now I won’t have to worry about paying the workers’ wages this month!”

Ning Ge rolled his eyes. As if they’d have issues paying wages with him around!

”So, we’ll work on these orders first, and also send the batch for the diplomatic side for review?” Cheng Su asked.
