CEO's Reborn Wife

The last few voice messages had the smart doll crying out ”Mommy” in the background.

Joseph Shaw listened to the final voice message, clutching the mobile phone as he leaned against the coffin.

”Jillian, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have divorced you.”

Joseph Shaw wept until he lost his voice.

”Yes...” Joseph Shaw realized that it was truly him who drove Jillian Carter mad.

The divorce with Jillian Carter was the final straw that broke her.

When everyone left Jillian Carter, he left her too.

She was truly left with nothing.

Joseph Shaw truly hated her, hated that she never loved him, hated that she heartlessly hurt him and their child, hated that she never cared genuinely.

But Joseph Shaw never expected that post-divorce, Jillian Carter would go insane.

Never did he expect that he would become the one who thoroughly drove Jillian Carter insane.

”I thought she was strong.” Joseph Shaw painfully clutched Jillian Carter’s mobile phone, ”I thought she would have the courage to face the path she chose herself, would have the courage to walk it alone.”

”None of us expected her to turn out like that later, Joseph Shaw, we weren’t wrong, you weren’t wrong.” Father Carter choked as he shook his head, ”Jillian is gone, we all regret, but the pain, the despair, and the hurt she brought us back then truly existed, these, cannot disappear just because she’s gone.”

”At that time, she let us down so much, the pain of losing the child wasn’t any less for you. Even if given a chance to return to the day you divorced, for you at that time, divorcing her was still a relief.” Father Carter saw the truth clearly.

”Returning to that time, you would still be in pain, you would still hate her ruthlessness in not even sparing her own child, you would still hate that nothing could warm her heart.”

Father Carter sighed softly, ”We made a decision that was a relief for us at that time, we just didn’t foresee these results, didn’t foresee she would go mad, nor foresee she would fall into the river and die.”

”Before you unlocked her phone, we might have felt more regret, but now, I think perhaps this result for Jillian Carter is also a kind of relief.”

Granny Carter silently shook her head, ”She was insane, disoriented, yet she still used the date of your divorce and the child’s loss as the mobile phone password; does this mean that in her heart she was very clear, the happiness she thought she had was an illusion, every time she unlocked the phone, she was reminding herself of reality.”

”Every time she saw someone she used to know, she would reconstruct her imagined world again, but she was truly aware inside that false is false, that she couldn’t be Jane Sampson, nor could she retrieve the lost child, even if she lived, it was with great pain.”

”When she was found, her expression was serene, not a hint of ferocity. Now thinking back, when waiting for death, she probably found enjoyment in it, sensing relief from pain.”

”The deceased has passed away, Joseph Shaw, you weren’t unfair to her while she lived, you fulfilled your responsibilities as a husband, as for the child, it was her who didn’t give you a chance to be a father, so even though she’s gone now, you need not blame yourself.”

After comforting Joseph Shaw, Father Carter said no more.
