Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1214 - 725: Loving Authenticity_2

”No.” Wen Su glanced outside, ”Auntie is asleep?”

”Yes, Mom was so tired that she actually fell asleep. My brother went to the neighbor’s to find out what’s going on. He didn’t let me follow, said I should help you in the kitchen...” Lu Qingqing moved closer, ”But with your skills, you don’t need my help. I... I can only boil eggs.”

Wen Su continued chopping vegetables without looking up: ”You should go rest. By the time I’m done, Old Lu should be back.”

”I wouldn’t dare. My brother would have a go at me... ” Lu Qingqing smiled apologetically, ”I know it’s a bit much to have a young master cook, but with everything that’s happened to our family, and with my mom in that state, neither my brother nor I can cook, so we have to rely on you.”

”Okay, I’m here not as a hands-off young master anyway, otherwise why would I come over?” Wen Su fondly patted her head, ”Qingqing, what I like is your sincerity, don’t change, just stay the way you are.”

”Okay!” Lu Qingqing nodded vigorously, hugging him from behind, ”I’m not silly. The way my brother acted just now, he clearly meant to tell me that someone of your status shouldn’t be doing these things.

I believe he’ll definitely advise me to stick to the rules of being a daughter-in-law of a wealthy family, but I think if you liked that sort of thing, you wouldn’t have chosen me in the first place, right?”

”Right!”

”Of course, I’ll learn to cook. For a woman, having good cooking skills and making delicious food for her husband is a kind of happiness. You have to believe, one day I’ll be able to cook a truly wonderful meal, capturing your heart through your stomach.”

”Great!”

Lu Qingqing felt much brighter inside and tightened her grip slightly, ”By the way, how did you learn to cook? With you being a young master, one would think you wouldn’t even know how to boil an egg, right?”

”Every child in the Wen Family knows how to cook.” Wen Su added, ”Even Little Pumpkin can cook quite well.”

Lu Qingqing looked surprised: ”Why?”

”In the Wen Family, all survival skills must be learned, just in case.” Wen Su explained simply.

”Got it. It’s not easy for anyone.” Lu Qingqing sighed, suddenly understanding, ”Now I get why you like someone like me. Finding a big family’s lady to scheme every day is pretty boring. Finding someone who’s after your money and keeps making you angry, that’s also boring. So, thinking about it, I’m the most suitable!” The more she spoke, the more justified she felt.

”Yep, smart.” Wen Su patted her hand, ”I’m going to start cooking now, you can watch from the door.”

”Okay.” Lu Qingqing obediently stepped back a few steps, her eyes full of happiness as she looked at him, ”Wen Su, it’s really great to have you at a time like this!”

Wen Su returned her a smile, lit the stove, and casually asked: ”By the way, your family never hired a maid?”

”No, quite a few cases of maids seducing the male owners have happened here. Mom really trusts Dad, but if we encountered a girl like that, it would naturally make her angry.

As for older ones, Mom always felt awkward having someone else serve us, so she did all the housework herself.”

”Sizzle!” Wen Su poured the vegetables into the pan. After a few quick stirs, the aroma wafted up. Lu Qingqing sniffed, ”I’ll go set the table.”

Watching her walk away, Wen Su sighed softly. It was clear she was forcing herself to be cheerful while chatting with him. However, fundamentally, the Lu siblings were quite resilient, otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to hold up at this time.

He didn’t urge her to rest, hoping instead to distract her so she wouldn’t overthink.

The last dish was almost done when Lu Dongdong returned. Lu Qingqing quickly approached him, ”Brother, how is it?” Wen Su adjusted the flame lower and also came out of the kitchen, ”Sit down and talk.”

”Uncle Sun said that on the morning of the accident at the mine, Dad left for a business trip in a hurry and didn’t inform Mom or Grandpa and Grandma.

Not long after the accident, Director Li from the office called Mom, saying Dad went to Fuzhou and might not return for about ten days.

Mom asked why he didn’t say earlier, and he answered that it was an urgent matter involving a secret project, and Dad couldn’t risk contacting home in case the call was eavesdropped.

Previously, Dad did mention there was a project on the line at the mine, with several competitors, but he didn’t know which one they’d choose, so when Director Li explained, Mom and Grandpa and Grandma believed it.

It wasn’t until yesterday that Zan Wenxing came to our house with Governor Luo. Seeing Grandpa and Grandma’s age, they didn’t say much, just that Dad’s contributions to the mine over the years had been significant, and they came to check on the family.

In private, Zan Wenxing told Mom the truth, and she called Auntie to have Grandpa and Grandma taken away.

After Grandpa and Grandma left, Zan Wenxing did arrange someone to look after Mom, but Mom sent them back, saying she wanted to be alone. That’s the gist of it.”

”So, Mom endured a night and a day by herself before calling us.” Lu Qingqing frowned, ”Mom sent the person away, so no one’s looking after her?”

”Dad’s... Dad’s funeral is being handled at the mine, so they’re probably too busy to care about this.” Lu Dongdong sighed, ”At a time like this, Zan Wenxing is likely thinking of ways to protect himself, so how could he consider what might happen to Mom?”

”And that Governor is also... ” Lu Qingqing pursed her lips, ”He’s clueless too, just came to take a look and then left it alone. Doesn’t he know what kind of person Zan Wenxing is?”
