Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1138: Chapter 672: Let’s Be Friends

Along the way, Luo Ye’s mood was incredibly excited; everything was going so smoothly!

Originally, when she saw Cai Xiaoyu, she considered staying, but after thinking it over, the clear relationship between Ye Xuan and Secretary Cai meant that if she seemed too eager, people might misunderstand her intentions.

Since they had already met, there would always be a suitable opportunity to get closer to Cai Xiaoyu, which is why she felt at ease driving Liu Yuhua and her daughter away.

She didn’t expect the opportunity to come so quickly; although Ye Xuan didn’t say what it was, since it involved her, it was the biggest opportunity!

Feeling cheerful, she unconsciously pressed on the gas pedal until the piercing sirens grew closer. Only then did she glance at the speedometer and, embarrassed, stuck out her tongue and quickly eased off the gas.

The traffic officer didn’t expect her to suddenly slow down, so he shot straight past her. Once he regained his senses, he thought she was trying to escape and hurriedly turned on the signal and made a U-turn...

Fortunately, Luo Ye had good driving skills, and the traffic in Xiangshan City was sparse, which allowed the two cars to narrowly avoid each other. Luo Ye glanced at the rear-view mirror and saw the police officer’s nose almost twisted with anger, and promptly pulled over.

”Driver’s license, vehicle registration!” The officer demanded sternly.

While Luo Ye took the documents out of her bag, she asked, ”You must be new to being a traffic officer, right?”

”Why? Are you checking me or am I checking you?” The officer wasn’t pleased.

”I’m not intentionally checking you, just wanting to kindly remind you that as a traffic officer, it’s your duty to catch violations. However, risking both your own and others’ lives in doing so seems inappropriate, don’t you think?”

The officer’s face twitched, ”If you didn’t try to flee, would I have made a U-turn to chase you?”

Luo Ye handed over her driver’s license and vehicle registration, ”Yes, I did make a mistake. But if there were more cars on the road, or if there happened to be pedestrians, what would the situation be now?”

”I made the U-turn because I saw there weren’t any other cars or pedestrians, did you really think I was that careless?”

”But what if my driving skills weren’t good?”

”Well...”

”I’m not being unreasonable, I’m honestly saying this for you; if we collided, perhaps I’d be fine, but what about you?” Luo Ye said, pointing at the driver’s license and vehicle registration, ”I can take them back now, right?”

”You...” The officer sized up Luo Ye and chuckled in annoyance, ”I’ve never seen a driver like you before, clearly at fault yet trying to shift all the blame onto the other party.”

”You have to admit, what I said just now was true.” Luo Ye glanced at the time, ”I have urgent business, could you write the ticket, please?”

”You... what kind of attitude is this?” The officer frowned, tucking the documents into his bag, ”Come with me to the station; driving 100 km/h on a 70 km/h road and still critiquing the officer, you definitely need some re-education.

Don’t think you can do as you please just because of your looks. I hate women like you the most, relying on a bit of attractiveness to think everyone should accommodate you, as if the world revolves around you. Who do you think you are?”

”Alright, I apologize for my attitude, please write the ticket.”

”With behavior like yours, ignoring your own safety and other’s, and then refusing to admit fault afterward, you must come with me.” The officer was resolute.

”I’ve already realized my mistake and will definitely be more careful. Just now, I was distracted by something on my mind; I truly won’t let this happen again.” No matter what, she was indeed at fault first, and Luo Ye sincerely admitted her mistake.

”It’s useless saying that.” The officer said, mounting his motorcycle, ”Follow me.” Without waiting for Luo Ye to respond, he sped off.

Luo Ye shook her head and ignored him, started her car, and headed straight to Ye Xuan’s office.

”Huh? Huh...” The officer glanced at Luo Ye’s maneuvers in the rear-view mirror, irking him into a bemused disbelief—such a gutsy driver, one he’d never encountered before—and quickly turned his bike to give chase. Three minutes later, nearly catching up, he saw her turn directly into the City Government.

...

”Hello, Miss Luo!”

”Hello, Miss Luo!”

”...”

Upon seeing Luo Ye at the small meeting room’s door, Cai Xiaoyu and the others quickly stood up to greet her.

”Sorry for keeping everyone waiting.” Luo Ye naturally sat beside Cai Xiaoyu, her gaze fixed on Ye Xuan: ”Mayor Ye, we can start.”

”Pfft!” Cai Xiaoyu immediately burst into laughter. Once she stopped, she said, ”Miss Luo, there’s no need to pretend. Mayor Ye openly told us just now that he listens to you in everything; he’s a classic henpecked husband.”

”Really?” Luo Ye looked at Ye Xuan with an ambiguous smile, ”Is that what you said?”

”Yes!” Ye Xuan nodded, stood up, ”Ye’er, you can handle the rest with them. I’m heading back to the office.”

Cai Xiaoyue chuckled, ”Mayor Ye, should I take that as you’ve been scared off?”

”Think whatever you want.” Ye Xuan said, standing up and directly leaving the meeting room.

”He’s just got that kind of temper, don’t take it to heart,” Luo Ye explained, changing the subject. ”What’s Miss Cai looking for me about?”

”It’s like this...” After Cai Xiaoyu finished explaining the situation, she pointed to Niu Xiaoyue and introduced, ”This is Niu Xiaoyue. You can absolutely trust her abilities, otherwise I wouldn’t be going out of my way to plead with my dad’s old enemy.

Also, rest assured, I definitely won’t interfere because of my dad. I’m genuinely just looking for your help.

I want to help because I see it as a win-win situation that can fulfill Xiao Yue’s wishes and genuinely assist you.

As for Xiao Yue’s character, you can rest assured. Any task entrusted to her, she’ll definitely see it through to the end, responsibly. I believe that’s her most valuable trait.”

After thinking for a while, Luo Ye nodded, ”Alright, I’ll give her this chance, but there’s a three-month probation period. If qualified, she’ll stay. If not, don’t expect any favors.”

Niu Xiaoyue suddenly stood up and bowed, ”Thank you, Miss Luo, if I’m not qualified, I wouldn’t have the face to stay at Liangyou. This time, I’m specially troubling Xiaoyu for help because I really want to do something for my hometown.

But I know that just based on my personal capabilities, even if I exhaust myself, I probably won’t solve anything.

I heard about Liangyou’s business philosophy when I was in school, so after knowing Liangyou was investing in Xiangshan City, I was moved. I believe I can achieve my aspirations at Liangyou.”

Luo Ye observed her for a moment, ”Are you related to Secretary Niu of Upper Ma Village?”

”He’s my father,” Niu Xiaoyue smiled awkwardly, ”Actually, I asked my dad for help, but he refused.”

”No wonder...”

Niu Xiaoyue hurriedly explained, ”Miss Luo, don’t misunderstand, my dad doesn’t know I’m looking for Xiaoyu. He’s always hoped I’d work in a big city to boost his image.

Of course, it’s not that he thinks staying at Liangyou would disgrace him. He thinks even if I stay at Liangyou, at most I’d get a slightly better position than an ordinary worker.”

”That’s not the only reason, right?” Cai Xiaoyu playfully blinked at her, revealing her shortcoming, ”Your dad’s main worry is you being with Yang Aigang, sending you to work is to separate you two.”

Niu Xiaoyue nodded in acknowledgment, ”You’re right, that’s one reason. Mainly, my dad cares for me, he thinks Yang’s personality is too stubborn, inflexible, and will cause me trouble in the future.”

”Let’s just settle on this for now. Later, have Ye Xuan send over the appointment letter. As for Liangyou’s investment here, we’ll just supervise it, everything else is handled locally.”

Cai Xiaoyu gave Luo Ye a sidelong glance, ”Miss Luo is trying to kick us out, huh?”

”No, I’m just trying to reassure Xiao Yue. She keeps worrying and can’t focus on talking with us.

Honestly speaking, I have this special affinity towards Miss Cai...” Luo Ye couldn’t help but laugh, ”My phrasing sounds like a guy trying to chat up a pretty woman.”

”A bit,” Cai Xiaoyu nodded seriously, ”I’ve always wondered, it feels like Miss Luo is particularly lenient with me. If that’s true, what’s the reason? Don’t blame me for being suspicious, I’ve never trusted the unreliable notion of inexplicable goodwill.”

”But in fact, that’s just the case,” Luo Ye shrugged, ”If Xiaoyu doesn’t believe it, I can’t do much.”

Noticeably reacting to the change in address, Cai Xiaoyu’s eyes curved into crescents, ”Alright, I acknowledge you as a friend. I can’t say why, but I feel you treat me well without any ulterior motives.

Though still unclear why you’re good to me, I’m willing to trust what you said. Besides, time reveals character, someday I’ll understand why you treat me this way.”

”I’m waiting for the day you expose me.” Glancing at the two girls encountered at Longshan who kept their heads lowered, Luo Ye smiled and looked at them, ”I didn’t mind what happened earlier, no need to act this way.”

”Thank you, Miss Luo!”

”Thank you, Miss Luo!” they both said almost in unison.

”Nothing to thank for, besides, girls tend to be a bit gossipy.”

Was this implying something? Their parents were just minor cadres, in case the other party finds out... Thinking this, the two blushed red, looking towards Cai Xiaoyu for help.

Cai Xiaoyu ignored their pleading gaze, ”Miss Luo, how do your friends usually call you?”

”Luoluo.”

”Luoluo, may I call you that too?”

”Sure!”

”Let me take you out for a spin, shall we have dinner together tonight?”

”Alright!”

The two chatted as they left the meeting room unreservedly, Niu Xiaoyue got up to follow, leaving the two girls to exchange glances before hurrying after them.
