Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1121: Chapter 660: Coincidence

After Liu Yuhua hung up Yu Hewei’s phone call, she changed clothes and went to the Beizhong Road Market. At the entrance, the seafood stall did have fresh Tiger Grouper, but the original price of 180 yuan per kilogram was now sold for 230 yuan per kilogram here. Feeling it was not right, she headed to the seafood specialty area inside the market.

After wandering around for a while, she still couldn’t find another stall selling Tiger Grouper. Helplessly, she had to go back thinking to haggle with the vendor and buy it if the price was reasonable.

With children in school costing money, elders occasionally getting sick, plus household expenses, neither she nor Yu Hewei could save a dime from their monthly wages. Therefore, for her, saving every penny was necessary, but she never thought she’d be insulted.

Insults aside, the vendor even pushed her away.

”Bang!” In a fit of anger, she kicked over the iron tray full of fish.

”You woman, can’t afford it yet act tough; pay up, bring one thousand yuan or you won’t leave today.” The muscular man selling fish said while trying to grab Liu Yuhua’s hand purse.

Seeing her bag about to be snatched, Liu Yuhua cried out in distress: ”Robbery, help... robbery!”

The market staff knew that the seafood stall was run by the tax bureau chief’s little brother-in-law, so naturally, no one dared to say anything.

Regular shoppers in this market might not know precisely who backs this seafood stall, but the mere exceptionality of its existence makes it clear some things are beyond their interference. Hence, even as Liu Yuhua screamed till her throat was dry, no one dared step forward to help.

Watching as the man rummaged through her purse for money, Liu Yuhua cried out: ”My husband is the Mayor’s Secretary; if you dare snatch my money, my husband will have the Mayor throw you in jail...”

”Hahaha...” The muscular man laughed wildly, ”With just you? Husband is the Mayor’s Secretary? Let me tell you, my wife is the Secretary’s secretary.

Don’t even try flattering yourself; the Mayor’s Secretary’s wife wouldn’t dress like you, wouldn’t come here to buy groceries by herself. Fine, assuming you are the Mayor’s Secretary’s wife, it doesn’t give you the right to flaunt here!

This tray of fish is worth nearly two thousand yuan; charging you one thousand was being generous, yet you keep shouting at me...” The man waved the money in his hand, ”This is only four hundred yuan, quickly call home for the remaining, or else you’re going to jail!”

”You... you...” Liu Yuhua was so furious she couldn’t speak. Normally, shopping was her husband’s task; this market was only her third visit since marriage, and she didn’t expect to encounter such a thing.

Moreover, among the crowd, she spotted her second sister-in-law, who merely gestured for her to admit defeat before swiftly disappearing.

Even a fool would realize this stall had connections. But, her husband wasn’t a nobody anymore, how could she just give in?

In an instant, she regretted not telling her family early that her husband had become the Mayor’s Secretary; surely then her second sister-in-law would have helped her...

When Luo Ye arrived at the scene, she saw a group gathered at the seafood stall entrance, whispering among themselves. A woman in her thirties was kicked and lay on the ground, her messy hair sticking to her face, while a muscular man in his thirties maximized his humiliation of her.

Originally, Luo Ye thought of helping the woman up, but paused her steps upon hearing the woman claim to be the Mayor’s Secretary’s wife.

Was someone trying to give Ye Xuan a hard time, or was it just a coincidence?... Regardless, the current situation needed resolving first. Luo Ye stepped forward, helped Liu Yuhua who had been pushed onto the ground, and glanced lightly at the man: ”Return the money to her.”

Her voice was sweet yet carried an undeniable authority; appearing in such a refined, impressive young woman, it didn’t seem inappropriate.

The man stared blankly at Luo Ye, without reacting.

Luo Ye frowned slightly, snatched the money from the man’s hand, and handed it to Liu Yuhua: ”Count it, see if the amount is right.”

Liu Yuhua nodded repeatedly: ”I’m sure it’s right; he snatched it and kept holding it.” She wiped the tears from her eyes, ”Miss, thank you, thank so much...” As she spoke, her steps quietly moved backward.

”Give it back!” Coming to his senses, the muscular man reached out to snatch the money from Liu Yuhua once more, but Liu Yuhua dodged, grabbing Luo Ye she began to run, and the crowd instinctively made a path...

”Damn it!” The man, not expecting Liu Yuhua’s action, wanted to give chase but Liu Yuhua had already pulled Luo Ye out through the market gates. He cursed, pointing at the crowd that had made way, snorted coldly, and returned to his stall.

Luo Ye let her drag her through two streets, then chuckled: ”Madam, you can stop now.”

Liu Yuhua smiled awkwardly, ”Miss, I’ve troubled you today. Don’t worry; we won’t accept this grievance easily. Later, I’ll have my husband deal with him.”

”Alright.” Luo Ye glanced at the time, ”Madam, I have matters to attend to; you should hurry home, and avoid shopping there for now.”

Liu Yuhua reluctantly held Luo Ye’s hand: ”Miss, leave me your address, and later my husband and I will visit to thank you. By the way, Miss, have you graduated?

If you haven’t found a job yet, my husband can help; he recently became the Mayor’s Secretary, surely he can assist you. Miss, do you have a boyfriend?

If not, my husband could help introduce you to our Mayor. I think only someone like you could match our Mayor...”

Luo Ye laughed and interrupted the endlessly chatting Liu Yuhua: ”Madam, I have to go. We’ll meet again.” Saying this, she pulled her hand away from the grip and got into a rickshaw parked by the roadside, waving to the stupefied Liu Yuhua: ”Let’s go!”

”Alright! Hold tight!” The driver yelled, pedaled with force, and the rickshaw sped away.

”Oh dear, how did she just leave, Miss...” Liu Yuhua stepped quickly, watching the rickshaw fade away, shook her head regretfully, ”That Miss is quite shy, she’d really match our Mayor well.

Looks like she’s a university student too; surely she’ll succeed, really...” As if the Mayor was familiar with her, like she decided his lifelong matters.

Muttering to herself for a bit, she suddenly realized she hadn’t bought Tiger Grouper yet. Liu Yuhua turned towards another market, then after a few steps, thought it was inappropriate, and changed her direction...

...

Ye Xuan was reading the newspaper in his office after lunch when Yu Hewei walked in looking apprehensive, lips moving slightly without uttering a word.

”What’s wrong?” Ye Xuan asked without raising his head.

”Mayor, I... I have an urgent issue, can I go out for half an hour?”

”Oh?” Ye Xuan lifted his head, ”What’s so urgent?”

”Today is my father-in-law’s birthday; my wife went to buy Tiger Grouper, his favorite dish, but couldn’t get any...” At this point, Yu Hewei felt embarrassed to continue, yet he had no choice; after Liu Yuhua’s tearful recounting over the phone, he could only muster courage to ask the Mayor for leave, or else there’d be discord at home tonight.
