Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 712: Chapter 422: Persuasion

Yang Xing leaned in towards Ye Xuan and said, ”This afternoon, the old master called me in for a scolding. While we were talking, a phone call suddenly came in.

At that moment, the old master stood up so abruptly that it gave me a start, then he ordered me to leave. Two hours passed but he didn’t summon me again.

Feeling unsettled, I took the initiative to look for him. After knocking on the door and entering, the old master wasn’t as stern as before and motioned for me to sit down on the chair opposite him.

He cautioned me never to do anything that would betray Xiao Yang, saying he would never forgive me even as a ghost. When he talked to me, he kept staring at the right leg of the desk.”

Ye Xuan patted Yang Xing’s shoulder approvingly and gave Liang Wuping a nod. Liang Wuping quickly went to examine the right desk leg and exclaimed with delight after a moment, ”Found it!” A yellowish small paper roll was pulled out from a loosened screw hole.

Ye Xuan unfolded the small paper roll, which read, ”Freedom for Xu Aiguo, a lifelong follower,” signed by Old Master Song.

”Keep looking,” Ye Xuan ordered.

After Liang Wuping removed another screw, a larger cavity was revealed. He probed inside with a clip and pulled out another rolled up paper, handing it to Ye Xuan with a smirk, ”The boss is the boss indeed.”

Song couple and Song Xiaoyang also crowded over, ”Colonel Ye, may I have a look?” Song Aiguo asked expectantly.

Ye Xuan signaled with his eyes, and Liang Wuping ushered the maid and others out, ”Take a look.” Ye Xuan handed the material to Song Aiguo.

When Song Aiguo’s gaze fell on the note, his eyes widened abruptly...

”That year, I was 33 years old. While dining with friends, I got into an altercation and, fueled by alcohol and vigour, inflicted serious injuries on someone.

I thought it was just a common brawl, but the victim’s father turned out to be a provincial official. It was through my father’s intervention that the two sides eventually buried the hatchet.

I had always thought it was because my father held a position not much different from the other official, and out of respect, they let me off—never did I realize it was actually like this!” Without waiting for Ye Xuan to ask, Song Aiguo recounted the cause of the incident, tears of regret rolling down like beads off a broken string.

Ye Xuan heaved a heavy sigh, collected the materials, and continued searching for other things. This document alone could get the big fish in trouble, but he wanted more evidence to make the person unable to turn the tables.

...

The silver-white plane slowly landed at Daocheng Airport, and Sang Qingqing rushed off the plane in a panic, only to be abruptly stopped by a pair of hands: ”Qingqing.”

”Ye’er, how is he?” Sang Qingqing froze for a moment before immediately asking.

”He hadn’t woken up when I left. Come on, let’s get in the car.” Luo Ye pulled Sang Qingqing towards the car parked nearby, explaining, ”I have Fierce Tiger’s ID, so I could come in.”

Sang Qingqing sighed in relief, ”I thought you were using Secretary Luo’s privileges.”

”I’m freer than my dad,” Luo Ye said as she started the car, comforting Sang Qingqing, ”Dr. Su will be fine, he’s just unconscious because of excessive blood loss. As long as you get here and call out to him, maybe he’ll wake up right away.”

”Are his family members here?” Sang Qingqing nervously twisted the seat cushion.

”They are.” Luo Ye looked at her worriedly, ”Qingqing, you’re not thinking of backing out again, are you?”

”No,” Sang Qingqing shook her head firmly, ”I may feel uneasy, but I will never leave him again. Life is so fragile; I don’t want to struggle anymore.

Ye’er, from now on, other than you, Su Can is in my life. For both of you, I will live bravely and well.

If the elders of the Su family still don’t accept me, then I can wait. I believe that one day, they will recognize me.”

”That’s more like it,” Luo Ye smiled and sped up the car.

Sang Qingqing glanced at Luo Ye, confused, ”Ye’er, you seem to be troubled. Is there something worse going on?”

”I don’t know, I just feel a little anxious,” Luo Ye exhaled forcefully, ”Perhaps it’s because I didn’t sleep well.”

...

”Xiao Can, how did you end up like this? Open your eyes and look at mom. Look at your mom, I’m your mom, won’t you even recognize your mom? You’ve always been such a good child; there was never any need for dad and mom to worry too much.

But why are you so stubborn just over a marriage issue? Had I known it would turn out like this, I wouldn’t have sent you to study abroad; it’s those Western ideas that ruined you...”

Mr. Su, displeased, interrupted the weeping Mrs. Su, ”Can’t you say something nice? The doctor said to speak things he likes to hear to awaken him; why do you always bring up things he doesn’t like?”

”I...” Mrs. Su dabbed at her tears, ”These past couple of years, he has been fighting with us all the time. He doesn’t like anything we say, what should I talk about?”

”I’ve said before, if the child has made up his mind, we should not stop him. You just wouldn’t listen. Now, look what’s happened; are you satisfied?” Mr. Su glared at Mrs. Su, then gently stroked his son’s forehead, ”Xiao Can, dad promises you now, as soon as you wake up, dad won’t block whatever you want to do. If your mom tries to stop you, dad will help convince her.”

”Grandpa and Grandma, we will persuade them slowly, they will definitely come around, Xiao Can, open your eyes and look at Daddy, will you? Seeing you like this, Daddy really feels at a loss...”

Mrs. Su’s lips moved slightly, she sighed and stood outside of the hospital room, she really couldn’t understand, why must her son like that woman?

If she really is married into the family, wouldn’t the criticisms drown one to death? The doctors also said, as a physician, her son should know how to avoid the most dangerous situations, and yet he didn’t. Can’t this child be a bit less worrisome...

Looking at Sang Qingqing who rushed over in a fluster, Mrs. Su quickly stood at the entrance to the ward: ”How did you get here?”

”Auntie...” Sang Qingqing cried out, ”Let me go in to see him, please.”

”No way!” Mrs. Su firmly shook her head, ”If we let you in, it signifies our acceptance of you, which is out of the question.”

Luo Ye stepped forward and asked seriously, ”Auntie, I want to ask, which is more important to you, your son’s life or the marriage?”

”Both are important.” Mrs. Su’s expression was very firm, ”The incompatibility of marriage is as important as life, and moreover, it’s not like my son will wake up just because she goes in.”

”Dr. Su loves Qingqing, if he hears Qingqing’s voice, there might be unexpected results, why don’t you give it a try?”

”The doctor said my son is just in a coma due to excessive blood loss and will wake up soon, young lady, I advise you not to meddle, she is your sister, naturally, you are on her side.

I suggest you go home and ask your own parents, whether they can accept such a woman as their daughter-in-law, if they can, then come back and persuade me, okay?” Mrs. Su was unyielding.

Luo Ye nodded, ”Okay, I’ll ask my parents to come here, and I’ll ask them right in front of you to see what they say.”

”Ye’er, no.” Sang Qingqing grabbed Luo Ye, while crying and shaking her head, ”I’ve said, I don’t want to be accepted this way.”

”Then what will you do?” Luo Ye pointed to the door, ”How are you going to get in?”

”Auntie...” Sang Qingqing looked at Mrs. Su earnestly, ”Let me go in and call out to him, you should know, prolonged coma is increasingly harmful to the body, he is your son, I believe you love him the most, so please, give me a chance.

Once he wakes up, if you don’t want to see me, I can leave, and in the future, if you continue to disapprove, I am willing to wait, but this time, I won’t choose to escape, to stay far away from him.

I know my background is not good, and I understand some of the stains in my life will follow me forever, before, I was worried about these things, that’s why I harshly stayed far from him.

Now, I’ve realized, I don’t care what others say, I only know that I love him, I hope for his happiness, I hope he is cheerful, that’s enough!”

Mrs. Su’s expression softened slightly, as she hesitated, the door was suddenly pulled open, Su Dad beckoned to Sang Qingqing: ”Come on in.”

Mrs. Su hesitated for a moment and moved aside.

Su Can on the hospital bed looked pale, his neck wrapped in thick gauze, showing a hint of red blood stains, Sang Qingqing cried as she held his hand, ”Su Can, I’m Qingqing, from now on, I won’t hide anymore, really no more hiding, no matter what difficulties we face, I will walk forward with you.

But, you have to wake up for that to happen, when you wake up, tell me whether I’ve gotten fatter or thinner, okay? You’ve gotten skinnier, have you not been taking care of yourself? Su Can...”

Luo Ye glanced at the ever-sombre Mrs. Su, hesitated for a moment, then tugged at her clothing, ”Auntie, could you come out for a moment, please?”

”What is it? Just say it here.”

Su Dad frowned and looked at his wife: ”Just go out if you are asked to, how can we talk in such a mess here?”

Luo Ye gave Su Dad a smile: ”Uncle, together, okay?”

”Sure.” Su Dad responded heartily, pulling along a reluctant Mrs. Su out of the hospital room.

After everyone settled down in the chairs outside the door, Luo Ye looked at the couple: ”Uncle, Auntie, what do you know about Qingqing? I mean, can you tell me the rumors you’ve heard?”

”Let me ask first, what’s your relation to her?” asked Mrs. Su.

”She is my master’s goddaughter, my god-sister.” Luo Ye replied truthfully.

”Who’s your master?”

”The CEO of Ye International, North China.”

Mr. and Mrs. Su looked at each other in surprise, ”Are you telling the truth?” Mrs. Su couldn’t believe it, in her mind, how could a prominent family like the Ye family acknowledge such a dust-ridden woman?

Luo Ye nodded: ”Absolutely true, master went back to Beijing to reunite with his wife during this time, otherwise, he wouldn’t have ignored the situation.”
