She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 1161: Chapter 1224: No Preference for Sons Over Daughters

”Alright, move aside, let me say a few words to my son.” Zhao Lanzi, who arrived later, unhappily pushed away Xu Xianxiong. Ever since that satisfying fight, her temper and demeanor have become much more cheerful. She finally understood why her husband liked to fight so much.

It was liberating!

”Son, are you and Ningning doing well? Do you have enough money?” Zhao Lanzi asked with concern.

”Mom, we’re doing great!” Xu Qigang told a kind lie. He decided not to mention Ningning’s injury to avoid making the elderly couple worry.

”That’s good! When are you on break to come see us?”

”I won’t be able to return this year, Xiao Ning is pregnant, we have to wait until after the baby is born.” Speaking of Sheng Ning’s pregnancy, Xu Qigang’s stern face inadvertently showed a faint smile.

”Did you say Ningning is pregnant? Really? You’re not fooling me?”

”Mom, when have I ever deceived you?” Xu Qigang said helplessly.

”Oh oh oh... I’m just too happy, aren’t I?” Zhao Lanzi waved her hands and feet with joy. Great, she’s finally going to have a grandchild. Now, let’s see how those old ladies can talk.

Whoever dares to say a word of gossip, watch her tear their mouths apart.

”How’s Ningning doing? Is she uncomfortable at all? Let me tell you, pregnant women have it the hardest; their emotions fluctuate much more than usual. If she’s upset, you must coax her properly, understand? Don’t make her angry, so that the baby will be healthy, smart, and cute...”

Zhao Lanzi babbled on, eager to pass on all her experience.

”Mom, I’ll make sure of it, don’t worry.”

”How can I not worry? This is my grandchild, my grandchild.”

”It could also be a girl, don’t be like other mothers-in-law who favor boys over girls.” Xu Qigang warned in advance, ”Being part of the rescue team, whether Ningning has a boy or a girl, we’ll only have one.”

”I know, I know!” Zhao Lanzi confidently considered herself a good mother-in-law, unlike any before or after in the vast history. Regardless of whether her daughter-in-law has a boy or a girl, she’ll be happy.

”When I say ’grandchild’, isn’t it just showing my expectation!”

Xu Qigang rubbed his forehead, it seems like she still prefers a son, just like all parents in this world.

Xu Xianxiong and Xu Yingshan listened beside them, wondering how the topic suddenly shifted to boys and girls.

”Is Ningning pregnant?” Xu Xianxiong tugged on Zhao Lanzi’s sleeve and asked.

”Yes, yes...”

Xu Xianxiong was overjoyed, shouting into the phone, ”Son, have your wife give me a granddaughter, I like girls.”

”Alright!” Xu Qigang chuckled. He still remembered when he was little, his father used to complain about him not being a girl, saying it was embarrassing to take him out, and he couldn’t comfortably extort red envelopes from his old buddies.

Because they had agreed when swearing brotherhood, whoever had a daughter would get red envelopes.

So he often heard his father sighing about how many red envelopes he missed out on.

”Will you shut up!” Zhao Lanzi glared at Xu Xianxiong with extreme disdain, then turned to Xu Qigang and said, ”Son, now that Ningning is pregnant and has no one to take care of her, I’ll get ready to go take care of her!”

”No need, mom, you’re older now, you should enjoy your later years, how can you come take care of a daughter-in-law? If people hear, they’ll gossip about Ningning.” Actually, Xu Qigang had his own considerations.
