She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 694: Chapter 723 Number Two

”Feihu, have you been drinking again? Don’t you even look at where you are? How dare you act recklessly? I don’t know what Xingzhi has spoiled you into. Do you believe I can make you go to the army?” The speaker was about sixty years old, not tall - about 5’7”, slightly overweight, with somewhat dark skin, and long brows that suggested longevity. He looked very imposing, and when he spoke, his voice boomed energetically.

He is the second-in-command in the Northern District, the Deputy Commander Fan Hengyan.

Shen Feihu had run hurriedly; when he looked up, he almost ran into the old leader and quickly greeted him with an apology. ”My apologies, old leader, I was just in a rush. Moreover, our President has never really indulged me! I’ve always been bullied more in our district.”

The old leader nearly laughed at his outrage, ”Oh, Feihu, your skin is almost as thick as the city walls. I think in future defensive battles, sending you in would surely hold; not even bullets would penetrate.”

”That would be great. If that’s the case, I could indeed do some good for our district.”

”Tomorrow, you’re going to the Border Defense Group to show me what you can do.” Being New Year’s Day today, the old leader wasn’t as stern as usual, but quite approachable instead.

”Leader, Chairman Shen has been transferred. What about the Rescue Association?” the assistant joked.

”I think Xu Qigang is quite good for the position. It’s time for his promotion to become President; I’ve been worrying about where to place him!” the old leader said half-seriously and half-jokingly.

Shen Feihu’s heart skipped a beat; there were rumors that the leader valued Huo Yan highly—before he hadn’t felt it, but it seemed like the rumors about hindrance were true now.

Perhaps, after this incident, that young man might indeed get promoted.

”What’s the rush? Tell me!”

Shen Feihu stood up straight, with a serious expression, not daring to be foolishly amusing. ”Old leader, I have an urgent situation to report.”

”Good! Come with me.”

A group of people went to the leader’s office, ”Alright, speak now!”

”Leader, Xu Qigang has completed the task; he’s returning with the core data and samples,” reported Feihu.

”The core data and samples?” the old leader asked incredulously. ”You realize it’s the New Year, do you understand the consequences of joking?”

”Leader, I understand, it’s absolutely true. Xu Qigang just called, and I’ve asked him to have the plane land on No.1 Landing Pad at the Provincial Command Center.”

”Excellent! Well done!” The old leader was thrilled, pacing around the office a few times, slapping Shen Feihu’s shoulder, ”You have indeed accomplished a great feat this time.”

”Hahaha...” Shen Feihu laughed joyously, which resulted in a punch from the old leader, almost causing him to choke on his laughter.

”A fool always encounters fortune,” muttered the old leader, then turned and shouted loudly, ”Someone come!”

”Present!”

”Immediately, have the No.1 Airport landing pad opened, and welcome back our battle hero.”

”And one more thing, old leader!” Feihu hurriedly said, ”The responsibility for this mission has now switched to the Southern District, right? The plane belongs to President Su, and the Deputy Director of the Southern Union Special Action Department, Qin Yue, is also there! It might be better to dispatch a few planes to meet them; I’m worried President Su might abduct our man.”

”That makes sense! Su Jiang, that rascal, is so audacious he’s reckless. There’s really nothing he wouldn’t dare do. If he really abducts them, I’d have to intervene personally,” the old leader nodded and ordered, ” Send five more special planes for escort.”

”Yes, Leader!”

As the sun set, with the performance time approaching, Sheng Ning waited from left to right but could not find Chen Huaying. She was usually so reliable; why was she so late this time?
