She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 652: Chapter 677: Sick in the Head

”Phew!” Wu Youli let out a huge sigh of relief, almost collapsing on the chair. ”I was so nervous, I’m never coming out carelessly again.”

”It’s okay, they just enjoy bullying young girls, feeling accomplished when they see them scared. They won’t really do anything excessive.” Heaven knows, Sheng Ning’s palms were sweating with tension.

Neither of them had much appetite and just ate a bit, then packed up two large portions for Dabao before leaving. Wu Youli originally wanted to cheer Sheng Ning up, hoping she wouldn’t hurt herself over Su Yun’s favoritism and indifference, yet they ended up experiencing such an unpleasant incident.

They looked disheartened as soon as they left the restaurant.

”Sheng Ning, I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault!” Wu Youli apologized with full remorse, ”I feel like a lot has gone wrong lately, just stepping out the door and running into a bunch of thugs.”

”It’s not your fault. If anyone is to blame, it’s me.” Sheng Ning didn’t take it to heart, for in her previous life, she’d been approached by men too. Back then, she was short-sighted and self-righteous. Lacking guidance from elders and her mother, she didn’t understand that such advances were impolite and an insult to women, and she had actually been proud of it.

After her rebirth, she was always careful about her behavior, determined not to make the same mistakes. As for how others behaved, she couldn’t intervene; all she needed to do was to do the right thing herself.

”They are jerks, what do they have to do with us? Based on what you said, does it mean we shouldn’t even step out? That’s absurd.” Sheng Ning concluded, ”It only shows that they lack manners and have disgraced our fellow workers.”

Wu Youli finally started to smile, ”You’re so right, it’s their fault.”

”Of course, it is!” Sheng Ning snorted, her expression almost haughty.

It was just like the news often reported in her previous life – some woman was molested, and then a bunch of adults would blame her for dressing scantily, as if she was enticing the crime. In the end, it seemed like it was the woman’s fault, and the man became the victim. This was a societal distortion, a sickness of the mind.

Sheng Ning found it ridiculous. The two arrived at the fork leading to the General Union Courtyard and stopped. ”I want to visit the General Union Courtyard, do you want to come with me?”

”I’d better not, you go ahead! I’ll just take the food back to Dabao.” Wu Youli nodded repeatedly, the last visit had made such a deep impression she didn’t want to go back again in this lifetime.

”Okay! Then I’ll go on my own.” Sheng Ning wanted to inquire about something; indeed, it wasn’t convenient to talk about with someone else. Without saying much, she waved her hand and walked alone towards the General Union Courtyard.

By the time she got there, it was already pitch dark, but fortunately, the streetlights were bright, and the courtyard had its own lighting system. From a distance, she could see Sheng Ning. As she approached, they immediately greeted her.

”Hello, I would like to visit...” Just as Sheng Ning was about to ask to visit Mr. Chen, the young comrade said with a beaming smile, ”You must be Comrade Sheng Ning, right? The old leader has instructed that if you come, just let you in directly. We won’t need to check your ID.”

Sheng Ning paused for a moment, reacting a little slowly, ”Thank ... thank you!”

”You’re welcome! Comrade Sheng Ning, please come in. The old leader comes here whenever he can these days, just hoping for you to visit!”

Sheng Ning smiled and said nothing.

After entering the courtyard, she hesitated at a fork in the road. If her grandfather knew she was here and she didn’t visit him, he would be very upset, wouldn’t he?

Sheng Ning sighed and ultimately decided to visit the Su Family first. Since she had recognized her grandfather, she couldn’t disregard his feelings.
