She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 683: Chapter 712 Lower Your Stance

“Do you want to eat something?” the lady in charge of cooking asked Su Yun, seeing her worried expression all day, and said caringly, “You should eat something, you’ve lost weight.”

Su Yun had indeed been suffering these past few days, and she looked down at herself, quite satisfied with her current state. Only when she appeared haggard, pale, and thin could she arouse Meng Xingzhi’s protective instincts. Only then would he stop being angry, start to pity her, and take care of her.

Su Yun was a very contradictory person, self-centered, willful, spoiled, and arrogant. But those who called her foolish or stupid were simply blind. She wasn’t stupid; she was only clever in matters concerning people she cared about. She didn’t care about others or their affairs at all.

Why should someone with such a powerful background and so much adoration bother to care about other people’s thoughts and opinions? She could live entirely for herself.

Even now, Su Yun was heartbroken and felt deeply humiliated, but it couldn’t change her self-centered nature. The habits formed over so many years, she didn’t even realize where her problems lay. She only blamed others, like her current hatred towards Sheng Ning, which made her teeth itch.

From the first moment she saw Sheng Ning, Su Yun disliked her. There was a provoking look in the girl’s eyes that disgusted her. At that time, she didn’t know that she was her own daughter. Once she found out, her feelings turned from wanting to reconcile to disgust.

The more Sheng Ning challenged her, the more she disliked her. Her existence and her excellence were a stark reminder of her past cold-heartedness and blindness, abandoning a daughter who could have brought glory to the family.

Later, when the whole family liked her and even kicked her out of the house for Sheng Ning, how could Su Yun not hold a grudge? Sheng Ning was not her daughter; she had come to settle debts, making Su Yun’s life miserable.

If she had known it would turn out this way, she should have been tough at the time and strangled her at birth.

“The New Year is coming soon. Is Xingzhi going to spend it with his comrades in the squad this year?” Su Yun asked the housekeeper.

“I don’t know either! Why don’t you call and ask?” Chairman Meng hadn’t been home for a long time, and she didn’t know his whereabouts.

“Mm!” Su Yun sat down next to the coffee table and dialed directly to the President’s office phone.

“Hello, this is Su Tuan,” Meng Xingzhi’s confidential secretary answered the phone, “I’ll get the President.”

“Okay!” Su Yun waited a minute before Meng Xingzhi took the call, “What’s up?” His voice was not impatient as Su Yun had worried, but instead had a hint of tiredness.

“Xingzhi, the New Year is coming soon. Are you still going down for inspections this year?”

“No!” Meng Xingzhi had been overwhelmed with task-related issues recently.

“That’s great, we can spend the New Year together then,” Su Yun, pleased, said cautiously.

“This year I need to go back and spend the New Year with Grandfather.” Meng’s family base wasn’t in this city. Previously, to accommodate Su Yun, Meng Xingzhi seldom went back. His mother had never liked Su Yun, and the rest of the family held Meng Fan’s mother in high regard and also had opinions on Su Yun, so he always tried to prevent any interactions between them.

But this year, Meng Xingzhi had decided not to accommodate any longer.

“You’re going back?” Su Yun’s heart sank instantly, “Can’t you stay and spend some time with me?”
