She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 599: Chapter 624 Divine Duty

”It was War Wolf Rescue Team Leader Xu Qigang.” The other party answered and then suddenly realized, how could he have forgotten? Xu Qigang had once been a loyal subordinate of President Su, a capable and trusted aide. Now, he was his niece’s husband. It was truly baffling how these people arranged things without thinking it through. Today’s Xu Qigang was no longer the country boy from back then. His status had changed beyond comparison to what it used to be. Besides, regarding the General Union... He could have attended that meeting too, if only he had known why Xu Qigang had been chosen for this task.

They already knew that none of the one hundred and thirty-nine people would come back, yet they still intended to add Xu Qigang to the tally.

Indeed! Those at the top understood, and anyone with eyes could see. Losing contact basically meant death. There was truly no need for a rescue; it was simply mandated by tradition that one does not forsake or abandon others until their corpse has been seen.

But... Xu Qigang shouldn’t have been dispatched at this time.

Su Jiang slammed his fist on the table with a loud boom.

”What’s wrong? What happened? Why are you so angry this early in the morning? Who dared to make you mad?” The administrative director came in upon hearing the noise and asked curiously.

Su Jiang ignored him, and instead took a deep breath to calm down before asking again, ”Is it confirmed?”

”It’s confirmed, and the ten-person team to accompany him has also been selected!” The other party understood that once it was confirmed, there was no turning back. Now... they were probably going to offend President Su.

”I understand.” Su Jiang hung up the phone, his expression very grim. Regardless of who was pulling the strings behind the scenes, this was a slap in his face. It was well known that Xu Qigang was his nephew-in-law, his former ace, and yet they had assigned him to such a task at this time.

This wasn’t a rescue; this was a death sentence.

Something felt wrong to Su Jiang, so he dialed another number. The person on the other end picked up quickly; the phone had hardly rung once before it was answered, and Su Hai’s lazy voice came through.

”Big brother, good morning!”

”It’s way past morning already, what’s good about this morning? Everyone else already started their meetings!” Su Jiang replied irritably. He had actually disagreed with his little brother getting involved in politics, but since he had shown interest, Su Jiang hadn’t stopped him. And indeed, it had turned out that Xiao Hai was a natural at politics.

It would have been a waste if he hadn’t pursued this path. It was likely that the Su Family would have a future Governor added to its ranks.

A Governor from ancient times was equivalent to the level of the current President.

”Big brother, I just heard about the contents of the morning meeting,” Su Hai said with a smirk that hinted at something more. He had just received the news from his trusted informants, and right after picking up the phone, big brother had called.

It seemed that big brother’s time in the Southern region paying its dividends, and he hadn’t fallen behind even in the Northern region.

”Good!” Su Jiang nodded with satisfaction. ”The person has been moved to an important governmental post without any loss.” Su Jiang had never been disappointed in his little brother; it was their second sister that was a whole other story. He hadn’t yet had the chance to pass on the news of their father’s order to kick her out of the house, but it looked like this was an opportunity to spread the word now.

Who else but Meng Xingzhi would have the final say in choosing Xu Qigang?

”Tell me your thoughts.”

The mention of this made Su Hai feel as if he’d been struck, thinking of the freedom he’d felt when their father went to attend Ningning’s wedding. ”If dad knew not just me but even you would probably get beaten,” he thought, smiling at the idea of his big brother getting a thrashing, which somewhat lifted his gloomy mood.

”That won’t happen, dad would simply beat you twice as hard,” Su Jiang said ruthlessly.
