She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 564: Chapter 586: Rapid Progress

The storm that the General Union and the artists had stirred up hadn’t reached Sheng Ning’s ears in the remote countryside; she was even unaware of the immense impact and sensation that Phoenix had caused, which had long since exceeded her expectations.

Even the Song and Dance Troupe of the General Union had been invited to perform at the National Grand Theater.

For a troupe dedicated to serving the comrades of the workforce, this was the highest honor.

Regrettably, she couldn’t be part of these glories. Nowadays, she was being forced by Shen Luhua to take nutritional supplements to the point where the mere smell of chicken soup made her want to vomit. Chicken soup was one thing, but pig’s feet soup had her feeling greasy at the mere sight of any food. However, despite eating so much, she hadn’t gained a bit of weight, though her complexion had improved, becoming much rosier than before.

“Look at you, you’ve had a major surgery and are still recovering, yet you can’t seem to put on any weight no matter how much you eat.” Shen Luhua wasn’t very satisfied with the results of the supplements, and after speaking her mind, she cast a white glance at Sheng An, “You, on the other hand, have gained weight.”

Sheng An had been coerced by Sheng Ning into drinking chicken soup with her recently and was no longer as dry and bony as before. Even her skin had become more hydrated than before. What pleased Sheng Ning most was that An’an’s formerly flat chest was developing rapidly. This was mainly due to the collagen in the pig’s feet, and considering An’an’s young age and previous poor nutrition that led to delayed breast development, the changes were very noticeable as her nutrition caught up.

“Hahaha…” Sheng Ning laughed heartlessly as she collapsed onto the bed.

Sheng An made a face, pouting her lips and ignoring everyone.

Sheng Laosan walked into the room, and seeing that Sheng Ning looked well, he guessed she must be recovering. Sitting down, he urged, “What are you really thinking? That family has come to our door many times and you ignored them every time. I won’t allow you to continue like this today.”

Sheng Ning was genuinely angry, angry at Xu Qigang for paying off her debt without consulting her, especially at such a critical moment as a marriage proposal. It made her feel as if she’d been sold, and for merely five thousand yuan at that.

Previously, she had made a bet with the town mayor because An’an was about to be married off, and in desperation, she had signed herself away for a debt of five thousand yuan.

But that wasn’t acceptable for him!

What angered her even more was that he had silently paid the debt and didn’t even bother to tell her. Thus, in the ten-plus days since her return, she hadn’t given the Living Yama the time of day. He had come to visit several times, and she hadn’t shown up once.

Previously, due to concerns for her health, both Shen Luhua and Mr. Sheng had been indulgent and hadn’t pressed the issue. Now that she was better, she couldn’t continue being willful.

Besides, Mr. Sheng had long decided to take Xu Qigang as his son-in-law; if the prospective marriage fell through, it might just kill Mr. Sheng with anger.

The smile gradually faded from Sheng Ning’s face, “Dad, please don’t rush this matter.”

“How can I not be anxious? I can indulge you in other matters, but not this one.”

“Yes! Ningning, you can’t keep being willful,” Shen Luhua joined in the persuasion, “The Xu family has shown serious intent. Yesterday, Qigang stood outside our door all day and you still didn’t meet him. It really is too much.”

Sheng An bit her lip, unsure who to support, her bright black eyes rolling around.

“I understand!” In fact, she felt for him, but if she didn’t make her stance clear, the same situation might arise again. She knew that the Living Yama was only looking out for her best interest, but she wasn’t a flower to be kept in a greenhouse; what she hoped for in the future was to stand alongside him and face life’s storms.

If she couldn’t handle five thousand yuan, what right would she have to stand by his side in the future?

Most importantly, if she relied on him to solve all her problems whenever she encountered one, she would regress to her previous life’s laziness and dependency. That would be a disaster for her.
