She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 598: Chapter 623 Xu Qigang Goes in Person

The meeting ended and Shen Feihu left in silence; no one who wanted to say a few words dared to provoke him. Once he was in the car, Liang Ximing knew something was wrong at a glance. There must be a problem with the operation in S country.

With the current situation stable on all fronts, the biggest problem came from the long-unresolved mission in S country. He had a premonition before he left that the mission wouldn’t go smoothly.

”What’s wrong, Old Shen? Is it Jian Guo who ran into trouble?” Since the mission in S country was top secret and couldn’t be discussed in public, he simply asked directly, concerned about Shen Jianguo’s welfare.

”Missing, and contact has been lost,” Once you lose contact in the cold Siberian Ice Fields, one can imagine what that means.

”What?” Liang Ximing exclaimed in shock, ”Then what do we do? Has a rescue team been dispatched?”

”No!” Shen Jianguo shook his head.

”What are these people good for? Such a serious incident has occurred and they didn’t dispatch a rescue team immediately; that’s just irresponsible.” Liang Ximing was known for his good temper, but even he could not help but be furious upon hearing this response.

”So have you come up with any solutions? We can’t keep dragging our feet, otherwise, the Provincial Command Center won’t allow it.”

”The Strategy Department and the other groups all suggest sending Xu Qigang. I agreed.” The last three words, ”I agreed,” Shen Feihu uttered with deep sorrow.

He really worried about his son, agreeing to send Xu Qigang mixed with his own personal concerns. This troubled the usually upright and just Shen Feihu deeply.

On one hand, he worried about his son, and on the other, he was tortured by the concern for his loyal subordinate. That’s why he didn’t say a word in the command room; he knew that if anything happened to the task force, the most suitable candidate for the rescue would only be Xu Qigang.

No matter how much everyone debated, the final result wouldn’t change. Moreover, Shen Yu was not well-intentioned. This heir from his own family turned out to be even more formidable than he had imagined.

What Shen Feihu could think of, Liang Ximing naturally thought of immediately.

He sighed, patted his old friend’s shoulder and offered consolation, ”Don’t think too much about it! And there’s no need for you to blame yourself. Even if Jian Guo wasn’t on the rescue list, Xu Qigang would still be the one to go in the end.”

”But he just got married yesterday, and to Mr. Su’s granddaughter.”

Liang Ximing was stunned, his expression serious. After considering for a long time, he finally said, ”Obedience to orders is our first duty.”

Today’s morning meeting, secretive as it was, hadn’t kept the news from spreading within less than half an hour. President Su Jiang, far off in the South, received the news through internal channels immediately.

”What did you say?” He asked again, needing confirmation.

”All 139 comrades from the Northern Research Institute are missing, and according to the tracking results, the prospects look grim,” conveyed the person on the other end of the call with a heavy heart.

”I know that!”

Su Jiang’s response surprised the other party, causing inward admiration. President Su truly lived up to his name. Having grown up in the North yet establishing his footing in the South wasn’t something just anyone could do. The news had just arrived, and it hadn’t even spread in the North, yet he was already informed, all the way in the South.

”Then what is it that you’re asking?”

Su Jiang asked sternly, ”I’m asking who they are sending for the rescue?”

”It’s the War Wolf Rescue Team Leader, Xu Qigang.” The other party finally realized after responding. How could they have forgotten? Xu Qigang was one of President Su’s old subordinates, once a powerful aide. Now his son-in-law. It was really thoughtless of them to not have considered the personal connections before making their decisions.
