She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 596: Chapter 621 The Mission Went Wrong

“President, President, the General Union is on the phone, asking you to go to the General Union immediately,” Assistant Xiao Tao rushed over in a frantic hurry.

Shen Feihu heard this and didn’t dare to delay for a second, immediately taking his people and driving straight to the General Union. Upon arriving at the General Union in a state of panic, the people from the General Union’s Rescue Director’s office had already come out to greet him as soon as he parked his car.

Normally, Shen Feihu and this group of people couldn’t see eye to eye, hardly getting along. Now that they were the ones coming to meet him, it was clear that something major had happened.

He rushed into the command center wearing his coat without even stopping to greet the Rescue Director, pushing open the door to see Lu Yuan sitting ashen-faced in a chair, with the teacup in front of him not giving off even a wisp of steam.

Shen Feihu’s heart plummeted into the abyss with a heavy thud. What on earth could have happened? He already had a guess, but the outcome was more than he could bear.

“Reporting!”

Head bowed, Meng Xingzhi lifted his head upon hearing the voice and said, “Come in!”

About a dozen people were seated in the command center. Everyone stood up to greet Shen Feihu as he entered.

“Please, take your seats,” said Meng Xingzhi with unprecedented seriousness, as he sat in the main seat. On his left was a man in his thirties, with a striking appearance and sharp features. However, there was a somewhat predatory look in his eyes, which conveyed judgment and a sense of inherent superiority.

It was then that Shen Feihu noticed a stranger in the command center. To call him a stranger might be an exaggeration, for both shared the surname Shen, and strictly speaking, the man was his nephew.

But he was from the main family, a person of significant status, while Shen Feihu, at best, was from a branch of the family.

“According to information from the intelligence department, our team sent to S country has completely lost contact till now, and the mission has failed once again,” Meng Xingzhi said wearily, rubbing his temples and pacing the command center, “All one hundred thirty-nine people, vanished without a trace, their fates unknown. The most urgent matter now is the rescue plan. We’d like to hear your opinions, who is willing to take on the rescue mission?”

“Me! President, please let our group take on this rescue mission!”

“President, our group.”

“Us, our group.”

“President, please give us from the Fifty-six Association this opportunity!”

Lu Yuan stood up fiercely, speaking with pained yet resolute determination: “Chairman Meng, I request that you still entrust this rescue opportunity to us. My people—I must bring them all back, not one less.”

Meng Xingzhi didn’t say a word, instead gazing at Shen Feihu, who remained silent. The others also turned their eyes toward Shen Feihu, who was always the first one to jump at any mission, and the most vehement at that.

Today… Shen Feihu’s silence weighed heavily on everyone’s hearts. Among those one hundred thirty-nine people was his only son, a loss that would be unbearable for anyone.

Aware that he couldn’t face his old friend, Lu Yuan turned his head and spoke again: “President, I implore you to assign the rescue mission to our Research Institute.”

“Old Lu, calm down, this isn’t about self-blame. Each of the one hundred thirty-nine comrades is a hero, and we won’t give up on any of them; we can’t afford to lose even one.”

“Old Lu, calm down, this isn’t about self-blame. Each of the one hundred thirty-nine comrades are heroes of our rescue world, and we won’t give up on any of them; we can’t afford to lose even one,” Meng Xingzhi sat back down, leaning on the chair with his gaze fixed on Shen Yu, who had yet to speak.
