She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 519: Chapter 540: Encountering Su Huai’an

In the eighties, there were no cafés, so the two of them just strolled casually along the roadside. A handsome man and a beautiful woman walking together attracted countless envious glances.

“They’re all envious of me,” Su Huai’an said with a smile, “Ningning has now become a celebrity at the General Union, and many of my students admire you.” Su Huai’an thought of the bunch of brats he taught and felt his teeth itch with irritation.

Hmph! Every one of them looked at Ningning’s photo like a bunch of wolves, and they even wanted to acknowledge her as their aunt. Ridiculous! They were practically asking for a beating!

Su Huai’an, in teaching others, felt that he wouldn’t resort to punching someone directly. He didn’t need to lift a finger to make you wish for heaven’s help, but in vain. Crying for your father and mother would be useless.

He fully demonstrated the virtues of an intellectual.

Sheng Ning, hearing him say this, scratched his head awkwardly.

This… had Su Huai’an been kicked in the head by a donkey?

“Professor Su, I would like to ask a favor of you.”

“Go ahead, it doesn’t matter if it’s one thing or ten, I wouldn’t mind if Ningning came to me for help every day,” he replied, wishing she would do just that.

“It’s not ten things. It’s like this, my good friend Chen Huaying has been transferred to National Security University, and I’m a bit worried she might be bullied, so I’d like to ask you to take extra care of her,” Sheng Ning said, feeling somewhat embarrassed. It really wasn’t great to ask for favors out of the blue.

For a split second, Su Huai’an’s expression twitched. Chen Huaying afraid of being bullied? She was more likely to bully others. She hadn’t even officially started at the university, and her fierce reputation was already well-known to everyone.

“Don’t worry, Chen Huaying is my responsibility.”

“Then thank you.”

“If you want to thank me, you could make something delicious.” Su Huai’an remembered the meal the girl prepared last time, and a wave of nostalgia hit him.

“Then I will bring you something when I visit Chen Huaying next time.” She knew the rules well—when asking for a favor, you’ve got to show some token of gratitude.

“Let’s make it before the winter vacation!” Su Huai’an struck while the iron was hot.

Sheng Ning was speechless. “Professor Su, isn’t winter vacation starting in just a few days?”

“Yes,” he said, which was why he wanted it to be before the winter vacation! That way, Ningning would bring him something to eat sooner.

*********

Su Hai stood seriously examining the huge map in the office, occasionally glancing at his watch, then frowning, he asked, “Sun Gan, where is Huai’an? Why hasn’t he arrived yet?”

“Professor Su just got stopped by an acquaintance at the entrance,” Sun Gan replied.

“What acquaintance could it be?” Su Hai was skeptical; he knew his nephew’s personality very well. Huai’an was only easy-going with family members, and to outsiders, he was so aloof it could kill. Others could talk to him for half an hour, and he might not even say three sentences.

Eventually, people would also speak less when seeing him.

“Mmm… It was Comrade Sheng Ning,” Sun Gan said, his face a picture of conflict, stuttering for a while before getting the words out.

Su Hai exploded on the spot, “What? Say that again?”

Sun Gan quietly took a step back, trying to distance himself from danger. “I just saw Professor Su and Comrade Sheng Ning leave together, talking and laughing.”

“That’s great!” Su Hai started to smile upon hearing that Ningning was willing to interact with the Su Family members, but halfway through, he realized something was off.

Why Huai’an? Why not him?

He was the one who knew Ningning the best, had met her first, yet every time she saw him, she acted as if she couldn’t wait to get away. Why did she engage with Huai’an?

And to dare to chat and laugh with him, truly audacious.

Watching Su Hai’s face change unpredictably, Sun Gan started to regret speaking the truth. How come… Director Su’s expression looked a bit like a father catching his daughter in an early romance, teeth clenched in anger.
