Chapter 939: Chapter 921: Supply House

All the way, witnessing the clerics in the city being recklessly purged by the sages made Klimte’s lips press tightly beneath his grizzled beard.

However, he ultimately prioritized the mission to rescue the Saintess above all else, not losing his rationality to anger.

This somewhat made Lann feel much more reliable.

This little house appeared ordinary, with hardly any traces of battle.

Lann touched the wooden door frame, nodded back to the team, indicating that this place seemed undiscovered and safe.

A Golden Armor Feathered Knight stepped in first, having already unsheathed the two beheading axes at his waist, holding them in his hands.

The bulky yet skillfully made armor under his control didn’t make loud collision sounds, only slight friction noises between components.

And just after the Golden Armor Feathered Knight entered, a muffled groan suddenly sounded from the second floor of the house.

”Hmm?”

It was a voice of confusion, albeit muffled by the helmet.

The Golden Armor Feathered Knight immediately gripped his axes tightly, looking upwards cautiously.

And what met his eyes was a Silver Armor Feathered Knight.

The Silver Armor Feathered Knight fluttered the small wings on his back, leaping downwards.

The initially tense group also relaxed after seeing the other’s identity and actions.

After all, with such an appearance, willingly approaching their formation, it didn’t seem like an enemy.

Indeed.

”Are you the ones who originally followed Rosalie out of Losric, my brothers?”

The Silver Armor Feathered Knight who jumped down seemed incredibly weak, speaking while supporting himself against the wall with one hand to barely maintain his stance.

A group of people filed into the house, and the entry of so many Feathered Knights nearly filled the space.

”You few, fly up first.”

Fortunately, Klimte ordered, positioning people on both floors, avoiding overcrowding.

The combat capability of the Feathered Knights was undeniable, but the armor’s bulky appearance was a bit excessive.

After making space, only the recently arrived Golden Armor Feathered Knight remained to support the injured, while Klimte took out his amulet from his bosom, beginning to perform a restorative miracle.

The magic and miracles of this world require a catalyst at hand to activate; magic needs magic staff, miracles need holy bells or amulets.

Lann hadn’t really encountered sorcery, hence his understanding was limited, but presumably it’s similar.

A golden circle array flashed over the injured, instantly improving the Silver Armor Feathered Knight’s condition.

”It’s really you! And Klimte, the Archbishop!”

A voice between crying and laughing emerged from beneath his helmet.

”Everyone is dead, Archbishop! The mages and knights attacked us, seized the Saintess! We were too weak, failed to protect Rosalie...”

”Watch your words!”

Klimte’s already stern face wore a gloomy expression. His low scolding made the Silver Armor Feathered Knight, who had just slightly recovered, instantly shut his mouth.

Then, Klimte watched the Feathered Knight’s helmet, deeply lowered with a faceplate in an exaggerated smile.

Even with a steel faceplate between them, everyone could feel this Feathered Knight’s guilt and self-blame.

Klimte sighed and turned away, while Lann stepped forward beside him, patting the Silver Armor Feathered Knight’s arm.

The armor echoed with ’pa-pa’ sounds under Lann’s hand.

”We are here to retrieve the Saintess.”

Lann’s first words made the Feathered Knight suddenly raise his head.

”Can you provide us with some information, like the force that kidnapped the Saintess or where she might be imprisoned?”

The Silver Armor Feathered Knight held nothing back, but eventually reached the same conclusion as Klimte’s perception — the Saintess was directly taken to the Great Library.

In the sages’ base camp.

”Understood.” Yet Lann, despite the lack of useful intelligence, didn’t appear too disheartened, only offering comforting pats on the other’s arm.

The despondency of a commander is a taboo in battle, and Lann had automatically assumed the role of leader.

Indeed, Klimte’s conduct in his eyes hardly qualified as a competent commander.

For the completion of the mission, Lann began subtly raising the priority of his orders within the team.

Klimte probably sensed it too, but perhaps out of self-awareness, he acquiesced to Lann’s maneuver.

The transfer and shift of command authority happened with such smoothness and unobtrusiveness under Lann’s control.

”Now, rest from the inner city down to the high wall, Knight.”

Lann said to the Winged Knight who had somewhat recovered his vigor.

”Don’t worry about the knights below the high wall. The Knight Order has split. The ones in the high wall church are at odds with the Sage, so they are friends.”

Saying this, Lann displayed the Knight Commander’s Ring on his hand.

As one of the Three Pillars of Royal Authority, the image of this ring is well-known in Losric.

At the same time, it is a powerful proof.

The Silver Armored Winged Knight seemed to want to participate in the mission, but under Lann’s insistent gaze, he could only nod with a gloomy expression, recognizing the fact that he was now a burden.

He saluted the others in the room, praying they could successfully rescue the Saintess, then walked out of the small hiding house alone.

This place is not far from the territory controlled by the Flame faction, and there is no danger along the way.

The Demon Hunter also approached Klimte, giving him a small nudge to get him out of his low spirits.

”Uh... oh!” Fortunately, Klimte was not too foolish to understand Lann’s meaning. He snapped back to reality and guided everyone.

”Follow me; the clerics in Losric set an illusion wall in this supply house.”

Klimte started to lead the way, and on the second floor of the house, he kicked a seemingly ordinary wall, which then disappeared, revealing a passage where it stood.

Upon entering, the place showcased its vast interior, fitting the prestigious status of the clerics.

Casters are not poor, and neither are clerics.

However, the grandeur of this place is now a thing of the past.

Now, it is stained with blood. The clerics who knew this place, like Klimte, fled here during the mages’ purge, but were obviously gravely injured and beyond saving.

They could only kneel and pray before a painting depicting ’Winged Knights descending from Heaven’ and silently pass away.

”Once, this masterpiece painting hung in the most prominent hall in Losric for admiration; now...”

Klimte, with a nostalgic expression, caressed the sizable oil painting.

”Now, even displaying it would attract the mages’ purge, so it can only gather dust here.”

Klimte’s reminiscing did not last long, as he was, after all, a pragmatic person.

After some rummaging through the place with skilled hands, Klimte found many things he considered useful.

”This is charred pine resin.”

He distributed bundles of parchment paper to everyone, explaining as he did.

The paper packages contained a black, ointment-like substance. Lann thought it resembled a salve.

”Applying this charred pine resin to a weapon will set it ablaze. The mages from the Great Library cover themselves and their eyes with wax to protect themselves from the dangerous magical knowledge. The flame will make those waxed ones ’enjoy’ thoroughly.”

Each Winged Knight received the charred pine resin, seemingly adept in its usage.

Lann also took a portion without surprise; it seemed similar in nature to Yan’an’s ”Fire Paper.”

Compared to the charred pine resin, Klimte’s description of the sages ’wax covering’ in the Great Library intrigued Lann more.

’To protect themselves from dangerous knowledge, they cover themselves in wax’...

However, thinking about it again, with Ausloes’s power and wisdom, he discovered the knowledge of the White Dragon in the Great Library and eventually turned into that form.

For the ordinary sages, who are far from Ausloes, to desire learning while remaining safe in a library filled with ancient, great knowledge, some strange actions seem rather normal.

Then, Klimte brought over a silk cloth with several rings inlaid with square blue gemstones lying on it.

”Magic Square Stone Rings, although the Square Stone Ring series symbolizes the Knights, ever since the Great Library was sealed for the sages, our relationship with the Knights has been always good.”

Klimte picked up a ring from the silk cloth and handed it to the Winged Knight in front of him.

”Wearing this will reduce the magic intrusion on you. This ring was originally given by King Ausloes to his personal guard; it’s puzzling why he, who was so averse to magic, in the end, sealed the Great Library for the sages.”

However, when Klimte offered a ring to Lann, the Demon Hunter waved it away.

”I already have one.” Saying this, the Demon Hunter pulled out an identical ring from his bosom. ”It was indeed distributed to the King’s Guard... last time, I killed two Church Knights at the entrance to Ausloes’s bedchamber, and they had it.”

It must be reiterated, Ausloes is a divine figure within the White Sect, vying for the position of Main God. And Klimte is the White Sect Archbishop.

So, Lann’s words rendered Klimte silent.

This person killed a divine race within their faith vying for the position of the Main God and took the rings from the guard. Yet, it seems it indeed pushed forward the Flame endeavor, and as a cleric, he couldn’t complain about it at all...

”...Then you keep it; these rings do not stack abilities.”

After pondering for quite a while, Klimte finally managed to squeeze out that sentence.

Meanwhile, Lann shrugged and walked behind him.

There lay a curled-up deceased cleric, from whom Lann extracted a finely crafted small round shield.
