Chapter 925: Chapter 907: Infant and Wedge Stone

Lann reached out his finger towards the infant that resembled a corpse, and Othello naturally grasped Lann’s finger with his slender hand, almost like a dragon’s claw.

Is it because... I received the ’Sunshine Moisturizing’?

That highest level healing ’Miracle’ was something only the Queen of Losric, Othello’s mother, mastered.

As the youngest child of the strongest branch of the Divine Race, Othello might be able to feel the power inherited from his mother in this situation.

Having been subjected to experiments that nearly killed him by his father’s hand, reaching out for his mother’s gentle and radiant power, yearning for love, was only natural.

”How ironic, the gods who once exterminated the Ancient Dragons and founded the Fire Age, are now seeking the form of the Ancient Dragons, attempting to adapt themselves to a world without fire?”

While holding Othello, Lann glanced at the corpse of Ausloes’ White Dragon lying against the wall.

For a moment, he felt a bit of irony.

”You’ll take care of him first, Rong Buqiu.”

”Meow?” Three-Floral Kitten opened its mouth wide, clutching its head, incredulous, ”I’ve never seen a cub meow!”

”What else can I do?”

Lann shrugged and placed the baby, who was about the same size as the Elu Cat, back into the raised hands of Rong Buqiu.

”I still need to head deeper to the Fire Transmission Altar as the Priestess Emma instructed. How could I possibly take a baby along?”

”Besides, he’s a Divine Race infant, not so fragile. At least he’s better off in your hands than with Ausloes.”

Lann reached out and patted Rong Buqiu’s head.

”Stay here with him; we’ve cleared the area, no danger. When I’ve finished my business, I’ll come back, then we can hand Othello over to the priestess.”

”I heard the priestess of Losric traditionally also acts as the prince’s wet nurse, so it’s fitting.”

Three-Floral Kitten sighed with its head down, looking helplessly at the baby being held over its head.

”Alright, but come back quickly, meow. It’s so boring to just watch a child and not fight.”

Rong Buqiu’s words made Lann pout, and he tapped its forehead.

”You don’t have to be such a battle maniac!”

”But fighting is more interesting than watching a child, meow!”

”He doesn’t cry or cause trouble, very easy to care for.”

Under the Demon Hunter’s adept reassurance, the Elu Cat reluctantly accepted the task.

Rong Buqiu, holding the baby, found a corner in the palace, further destroyed by the recent battle, curling up with a look of grievance.

But Lann, relieved to be without a burden, headed to the other end of the palace.

He occasionally flexed his wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

The earlier entanglement with Ausloes, akin to a duet on a knife’s edge, had not left him unaffected.

Even with his current physical condition and stamina, he could feel his saliva thicken, tinged with a taste of iron rust after slaying the White Dragon Demon King.

His chest heaved like a bellows, breathing heavily.

And his arms, used to wield the sword, showed varying degrees of bruising and sprains.

Fortunately, these minor injuries were within his control.

A natural and refreshing power spread from the small Shield Emblem hanging at his waist throughout his body.

It was like drinking a chilled orange soda on a hot day.

The power of the ’Early Recovery Amulet’ was mending the small, inconspicuous wounds on him and bringing his state closer to ’optimal.’

After sipping some ’High-Quality White Honey,’ neutralizing the Magic Potion’s toxicity, and picking up the ’Roar of the Roaring Dragon’ heavy crossbow cannon he had thrown to the ground, reloading and placing it back into the Alchemy Pouch.

He barely felt the faint pains in his joints.

Compared to the ’Swallow’ Magic Potion, this constant-effect accessory was indeed more reassuring.

At the other end of Ausloes’ palace was a roughly hewn stone door.

Even though the interior of this palace had been ravaged by the insane Ausloes, this stone door still seemed out of place in the manually shaped structure.

”Deeper... keep going...”

Lann confirmed Priestess Emma’s description with Mentos as he pushed open the stone door.

Inside the stone door was a descending stone staircase.

Based on the direction of Losric City, this was already deep within the mountain, heading towards the other side of the mountain range.

After descending the stairs, Lann looked around in confusion.

He instinctively felt surrounded by a powerful force, but it was unconscious, like air.

The Demon Hunter observed his surroundings.

This was a small antechamber after the staircase, and the stone on the walls at either side was distinct from the ceiling and floor, also unlike the previous construction.

Everywhere else was tidily hewn stone bricks. But on the side walls...

”Is this some kind of rune?”

With his gloved fingers clad in stiff leather, Lann murmured as he traced the walls.

The building materials for these two walls were large blocks of stone with sharp edges, marked with some kind of rune on the front.

But these stones had various types of damage.

Logically, how could damaged bricks be used in the King’s chamber?

And this place doesn’t seem to have been messed up yet by Ausloes’ rampage. The building materials were already damaged.

”And this texture...”

Lann rubbed the wall while taking out a stone block from the alchemy pouch at his waist, which was too big to hold in one hand.

It was the wedge-shaped stone he picked up in the courtyard earlier.

The Demon Hunter looked dumbfounded at the wedge-shaped stone in his hand and then turned his gaze to the wall in front of him, equally dumbfounded.

...It’s indeed the same material.

These two walls... are made entirely of wedge stones?!

Even Lann could only blink in bewilderment in such a situation.

Wedge stone is a rare and important material for forging weapons in this world.

The more complete the wedge stone, the stronger its power. It is said that intact wedge stone discs were the materials used by Divine Beings to forge weapons during the Divine Era.

Ordinary warriors, even the lower-ranking clergy of the White Sect, would find it remarkable to possess one or two tiny marble-like wedge stone fragments.

And now, on these two walls...

”All are wedge stone discs?!”

Each stone slab, though slightly damaged on the edges and corners, retains its overall shape.

This constitutes a [wedge stone disc]! The most advanced forging material in this world!

No wonder there’s a powerful force unconsciously lurking here.

These two walls together amount to hundreds of wedge stone discs! That’s like having hundreds of Divine weapons here!

Lann knew the normal Ausloes was formidable, and Losric under his leadership was equally formidable.

But he didn’t expect, even as the Fire Apocalypse approaches and everything declines, that Losric would still possess the capability and resources to gather these world’s most precious materials to construct a few walls.

”To build a few walls... What is the purpose of this?”

Lann murmured, puzzled.

But he didn’t dare to act rashly.

After all, given Ausloes’s scholarly knowledge and power, constructing a ceremony involving the world’s foundational First Flame wouldn’t be out of the question.

Might create grand ceremonies, or great magic... anything could happen.

If something goes wrong, who knows what reaction these hundreds of wedge stone discs might have?

However, the good news is: Lann could definitively say these walls are not yet complete.

As there was a wedge stone disc right at the feet of the Demon Hunter, not yet mounted.

Now, the world’s most precious material lay on the ground like ordinary bricks at a construction site, with chisels, shovels, etc. placed on it.

It had the appearance of a temporary break during construction.

Lann scratched his cheek and looked down at the large wedge stone disc.

If it hasn’t been mounted yet, does that mean the ceremony, or magic, is still incomplete, right?

So if he were to take this piece away... it shouldn’t matter, right?

Lann swept the chisels, shovels, and other tools off the wedge stone disc and then heaved it up.

He dared not touch those already mounted on the walls, fearing they might trigger some problem.

Even if the power of these hundred wedge stone discs were exposed for a moment, he doubted how much of Losric City would remain.

And considering Ausloes himself has been slain, surely this unused ’surplus’ is meaningless now!

Lann tucked the wedge stone disc into his alchemy pouch.

Passing through this seemingly mundane vestibule that actually hid immense power and value, Lann continued deeper within.

After walking a short distance, he faintly heard twisted echoing sounds from the winding corridor.

It was the sound of blood splattering, blades stabbing into flesh, and withdrawing.

Is someone fighting in there?

Lann’s pace quickened, and when he reached the source of the sound, he saw a person wielding bizarre dual daggers.

Cloaked in filthy, torn burlap covering their head and shoulders.

He was stabbing someone dressed just like him to death.

The bodies were piled along the corridor’s wall, stretched out in a long line.

In front of him was the last one.

Is this some sort of... ritual?

Lann was unsure.

In other worlds, this would certainly be a murder scene.

But in this world where even death carries ceremonial significance, Losric Knights pursue beheading as an honorable demise.

So Lann could only frown, cautiously approaching.

Originally, he wanted to greet and inquire.

But unfortunately, the person who had just killed someone dressed like him.

Came rushing towards Lann holding his bizarre dual daggers without saying a word!
