Bear School Astartes

Flame, if one says it’s not mysterious, then indeed many renowned Divine Halls in this world still use the sacred flame as a symbol of temples.

But if one says it’s mysterious, didn’t the local priest use fire to burn down the entire village?

The Greek World has many famous mercenaries who travel across the islands of the Aegean Sea to earn commission fees.

Among these powerful warriors, many can perform fire tricks.

After all, the destructive power of fire has long been known to the public.

Some can imbue their blades and arrows with fire, while others can concoct unique incendiary bombs.

On some remote islands where civilization is still at the stage of primitive tribes, these mercenaries can even be worshipped as gods by the local natives.

Although the priest serves only in a small village on the island of Cephalonia, he is at least someone who has seen the world.

He wouldn’t think highly of someone simply because they can play with fire.

After all, didn’t Prometheus gift fire to humanity thousands of years ago?

But the question is: is making flames appear on weapons, or throwing a small Greek fire-filled clay pot... the same as having a small flame burn quietly on one’s palm?!

”You, no! You are...”

The priest’s voice was trembling at this moment.

Only now did he realize, amidst his chaotic, despondent, and sorrowful emotions, that the person standing before him seemed to be very different from ordinary people.

For example, those eyes—they glowed faintly in the dim light!

”No, I am nothing, just a passing mercenary with a bit of a helping heart.”

Lann calmly closed his hand, and the small flame disappeared with it.

”Of course!” The priest instinctively wanted to retort but immediately controlled his mouth. ”Of course!”

He bowed respectfully, and the two guards behind him followed his movement.

This made them much more agreeable.

At least it stopped them from thinking he was some ignoramus rushing headlong driven solely by goodwill.

Lann did not believe in gods, but he was well aware that to accomplish something somewhere, one must fully utilize and cooperate with local customs.

He initially helped a fishing village in Auridon using this method, and now it was equally suitable for the plague-stricken villages of the Ancient Greek World.

Besides, he hadn’t lied, had he? He had stated quite plainly: ’I am just a mercenary’.

Once the priest straightened up, Lann continued speaking.

”First, thank you for your decisiveness, priest. To be honest, I was worried about what could happen if the plague in this village spread.”

”I might have been able to help the patients with my knowledge, but I only brought so many herbs, and I couldn’t figure out your local herbs in a short time. To put it bluntly...”

The Demon Hunter let out a deep sigh of helplessness.

”Your decisiveness spared me from the torment of my conscience. This family of four is likely the only group of patients I can save.”

”Great... uh?” The priest only now realized that he hadn’t even asked the name of the ’person’ in front of him. ”You are too kind, we are simply following the will of the gods.”

Lann shook his head at this statement.

”No, you indeed did your best.”

”Sending the patients quickly and cleanly to the Netherworld is not easy for you and your men. Generally, cowardly people, in situations like this, would drive the villagers together alive and burn them. They wouldn’t dare come close to the patients, wouldn’t dare let their swords take out the patients’ blood and get it on them; so letting sufferers die in extreme agony seems unimportant.”

”You and your men at least tried, risking your own lives, to let them depart swiftly.”

This was an unfortunate truth in the context of the times.

Medicine only began to develop rapidly in the modern era, and before that, expecting those responsible for controlling the plague to handle patients efficiently was a high ethical demand.

Under everyone’s watchful eyes, Lann’s left hand formed another hand sign.

Chaos Magic Power surged in, creating a circle of purple luminescent sigils on the ground, enclosing the family of four.

This was even more bizarre than the flame in his hand!

The [Yarden Magic Seal] was placed and then retracted by Lann just as quickly.

This Magic Seal had no practical use but was meant to reassure the priest.

”I’ve temporarily locked the plague within them, it won’t spread. Please help find a place nearby where we can stay, I’ll need some time to ensure the plague within them is eradicated. A place on these ashes would do.”

Lann said to the priest as he turned around.

The priest was nearly kneeling down and singing praises to Lann at this point; what else could he say?

Promptly, he led the guards to find a small building that remained largely intact after the fire.

Lann then took the surviving family of four over.

”Do you know a girl named Zina?”

Lann hadn’t forgotten Phoebe’s request; he ought to have an explanation whether Phoebe’s friend was alive or dead.

The little girl among the family of four raised her head timidly and asked, ”Are you looking... for me?”

Such coincidence?

Lann arched an eyebrow, finally encountering some good news in this dark and oppressive plague-stricken village.

Facing the tense family, Lann reassured them a bit: ”You have a friend on the other side of Cephalonia named Phoebe, right? She asked me to come find you.”

The two adults were now somewhat intimidated by Lann.

But the little girl and her brother had eyes sparkling with brightness.

”Phoebe was right!” ”She knows a Demigod! A genuine Demigod!” ”But didn’t she say it was a woman? And there was an eagle?”

The two chattered away, adding a bit of life to this deathly silent village.

”I’m not the one from her stories, I haven’t known her for long.”

Lann shook his head.

”And I’m not the Demigod you mentioned. I just have the knowledge to help you.”

The two children exchanged a puzzled glance; they didn’t understand how someone could deny such a powerful identity as a Demigod.

But on the other hand—

Phoebe actually knows two Demigods?!

While at the forefront, the priest did not even turn his head.

As a devout believer, he had a solid foundation in mythology and legends.

There were plenty who didn’t want to acknowledge themselves as the child of Zeus, so though he didn’t know the origin of the person behind him, the sentiment was probably similar.

Anyway, for mortals, it didn’t matter whether the Demigod admitted it or not.

Soon, they reached a ruin that could still house people.

”Prepare some food; I expect it will take seven to eight days to eradicate the plague from you all.”

Lann said to the priest.

This brought a wave of confusion from the other party.

”’The plague from us’?”

”Yes.” Lann nodded, ”You have been in contact with the villagers, so you are also at risk.”

He initially thought the priest would reject such an approach, but unexpectedly, the priest and his guards seemed only too willing.

They agreed straightforwardly.
