Bear School Astartes

Chapter 411: 411. The Order of Surgeries

Finally, Lann could only walk away from the increasingly upset Belengar.

Who knows how long this guy has been holed up in the workshop.

Normal blacksmiths work in shifts, but he has seemingly harnessed his exceptional endurance as a Demon Hunter to stay inside for a long time.

Just like he used this ability in the past to earn overtime pay as a laborer at the docks.

Of course, like Lann, he has now become one of the few wealthy Demon Hunters thanks to shares in Valerian Steel.

Yet, he remains fixated on his reputation as a blacksmith.

He is determined to create a masterpiece weapon that he can proudly showcase to everyone.

Hence, it’s easy to imagine the smell emanating from him.

That oily sweat... Lann really didn’t want it splashed onto him.

-----------------

It’s been a few days since leaving the Valerian Steel Workshop.

During these days, Lann had been staying at the Academy, waiting for Yuna’s armor to be forged and for Airetusa’s intelligence system to deliver news.

However, the days at the Academy weren’t idle.

He currently spends half of his time soaking in Airetusa’s library.

Lann is attempting to construct the flesh structure of the [Skeletal Enhancement Organ] and [Muscle Enhancement Organ].

To facilitate the use of crystal cultivation techniques for manufacturing qualified bioengineered organs for surgical implantation.

Progress in this area is swift.

Because during the battle with Spider Rom and meeting with the Mechanical Sage Belisarius Kao in the Mechanical Cult, the Primordial Space Marine, as the narrative viewpoint owner, detailed recollections of surgical knowledge.

Now, coupled with the fragmented surgical knowledge he acquired in [Memory Submersion], Lann has four complete subsequent surgery procedures up to [Lariman Organ].

If including the unique modifications of the Primordial Space Marine, it’s seven procedures.

This enormous body of knowledge is being rapidly digested and comprehended by Lann’s brain and talent.

Mentos told Lann that soon he could unlock the biocomputer’s permissions to the middle school level.

By then, the biocomputer from the Human Union could unleash even greater computational power to aid his life and advancement.

The [Skeletal Enhancement Organ] and [Muscle Enhancement Organ] are the two surgeries that most directly enhance the combat ability of a Primordial Space Marine.

After these two surgeries, the remaining procedures mainly increase battlefield survival, adaptability, and functionality, with minimal direct enhancement to combat power.

And these two surgeries also induce the greatest physical transformations in the recipient.

Lann’s rib cage will extend and grow into an overlapping, interlocking structure resembling louvered blinds or lobster shells.

Meanwhile, the overall skeleton will progressively enlarge, eventually making his body big enough to incorporate all the enhancement organs for the subsequent dozen or so surgeries.

The [Muscle Enhancement Organ] must be implanted after the [Skeletal Enhancement Organ] because overly developed, strengthened muscles would likely crush the insufficiently robust bones if attached to regular skeletons.

Inside the library, under the bright magical light, Lann holds a quill in his hand, occasionally sketching on a piece of parchment.

On that dark yellow parchment, the images of the two bioengineered organs are gradually becoming clearer.

Of course, the main calculations and computations are occurring in Lann’s mind, conducted by Mentos.

Currently, on Lann’s retina, an endless stream of data flows down like a waterfall, accompanied by a variety of strange bioengineered organ models being constructed.

His occasional sketches on the parchment merely represent a key point being thoroughly understood, marked down.

Once the images of these two organs are fully depicted, it means he has completely grasped the knowledge within.

”Sir, considering the biochemical environment provided by the [Skeletal Enhancement Organ] for the [Muscle Enhancement Organ], should we first shift our work focus? Muscle growth is much faster than bone, so we need to ensure the bones are fortified to endure those enhanced muscles before implanting the [Muscle Enhancement Organ]. This process will take at least several months.”

Lann’s quill pauses slightly: ”So, the implantation of the [Skeletal Enhancement Organ] must precede the [Muscle Enhancement Organ] by at least several months. The surgeries cannot occur concurrently... Tch!”

The Demon Hunter, a bit annoyed, smacks his lips. He had initially wanted to quickly complete the surgeries that most significantly enhance combat capability. But now it seems...

The sound of annoyance draws the gaze of the library apprentices towards Lann involuntarily.

Some subtly, others openly, while some act naturally, lifting their high-slit skirts to reveal their fair, smooth thighs directly at the Demon Hunter.

... Airetusa has always had a free atmosphere, made even more so since Tishaya left and Margaret took over as the headmistress.

These apprentices are blatantly giving their headmistress a hard time.

But Lann has long learned to ignore these bothersome trivialities.

He rolls up the dried quill in the center of the parchment and heads toward the library’s exit.

The Airetusa library is vast, and while heading to the door, he knocks on the side of a desk.

The apprentice who was studying at the desk naturally stood up and followed him, despite the unfriendly looks from the other apprentices.

Only after leaving the quiet library does Lann raise his voice to speak to the one behind him.

”Philixia, help me apply for the usage of the Thousand-Mile Telescope, the kind that reports directly to the headmistress, with the communication target being Master Tishaya de Veris.”

”Also, how is your project going now?”

The conversation between the Demon Hunter and the apprentice now resembles that of a professor and a student.

Philixia had long accepted this role.

The two are both in the crystal cultivation project, which is an academic group initiated by Master Tishaya that gathers mages and alchemists from around the world.

After Tishaya left Airetusa, only they remain as members of the project group at Airetusa.

Lann is an official researcher, even labeled as a leading academic figure after solving the challenge of organ growth.

And she... remains a general help.

Being treated as an apprentice is quite normal.

Moreover, it’s not without benefits.

Philixia notes down Lann’s to-do items and retrieves her recent inquiries from her small satchel.

Lann, as a researcher in the project group, has already started assigning book lists to Philixia.

If the personalized book lists were prepared by Airetusa’s lecturers, apprentices would have to pay an additional consultation fee.
