Chapter 1035: Chapter 79: There Is No Path to Becoming an Immortal in This World (41)

“We’ve already made contact with headquarters.”

Yun Hui had the people at the villa prepare some food and then brought it over—last night was New Year’s Eve, and he and Old Wolf only had some dumplings, which, though tasty, weren’t filling.

Old Wolf, at this moment, stared at Mr. Blind, who was still meditating, not daring to relax even a bit. After taking the food, he directly asked, “What did they say?”

Yun Hui said, “Last night, a strange phenomenon occurred deep in Mount Tai, causing chaos in the whole city. People from both the Dao and Demon Realms went to investigate. Several captains also led all the team members there. However, after 3 AM, headquarters hasn’t received any updates from here. It’s been almost 12 hours since we last heard from them…”

“Is it that serious?” Old Wolf was instantly alarmed.

Yun Hui nodded seriously and said, “Yes, headquarters has already dispatched reinforcements overnight. Before they arrive, we’ve been instructed to stay put and wait for backup.”

Saying this, Yun Hui glanced at Mr. Blind, lowered his voice, and said, “Additionally, headquarters hopes that we can keep an eye on Qingxia Zi.”

Old Wolf furrowed his brow deeply, feeling that this task was rather challenging… The person in front of him once caused great casualties in both the Dao and Demon Realms, and it was unclear what kind of Chaotic World Demon King he was. Though he seemed injured now, who knew if he didn’t have other tricks?

Facing such a great criminal of China, Old Wolf felt like a new prison guard confronting a dangerous terrorist, under tremendous pressure.

At this moment, Mr. Blind exhaled slowly and stood up.

Seeing this, Yun Hui and Old Wolf tensed up, with Yun Hui even directly forming a Dharma Seal, focusing his mana without releasing it!

“No need to be nervous, you two,” Mr. Blind said to them naturally, “Rest assured, I won’t do anything to you. On the contrary, I now hope to gain your assistance.”

Yun Hui and Old Wolf exchanged glances and frowned slightly before Yun Hui hesitantly said, “Daoist Master Qingxiazi, according to records, you should have been banished by the Daoist Association… why have you returned once again?”

“Whether you believe it or not…”

Mr. Blind said solemnly, “China is on the brink of a great calamity. So… if possible, would you both help me contact your bureau so I can speak a few words with that person?”

“That person… do you know who you are referring to?” Yun Hui’s brow twitched slightly.

Mr. Blind replied, “Naturally, I’m referring to the one who has been in seclusion under the Forbidden City.”

Yun Hui and Old Wolf’s expressions changed dramatically.

Mr. Blind continued, “Don’t worry, just report this matter up, and your superiors will naturally decide whether or not to take my call.”

Yun Hui and Old Wolf fell silent at this.

“Daoist Master Qingxiazi, it’s not that we can’t give you an immediate answer, it’s just that, given our level, we really can’t easily contact that person,” Yun Hui took a deep breath and said, “Regarding your request, I will contact headquarters as soon as possible. If possible, could I ask you to wait patiently?”

Though headquarters issued an order to closely watch Mr. Blind, they also instructed us to meet some of his demands within permitted limits.

To be honest, Yun Hui felt quite conflicted about the directives from headquarters. On one hand, this man was a major criminal in the Dao realm, yet, on the other hand, headquarters seemed to treat him like a guest of honor.

“Thank you both. I will continue meditating here,” Mr. Blind said and soon sat back down.

Yun Hui hurried outside to contact headquarters—unexpectedly, headquarters responded almost immediately after hearing the request.

“They really agreed?” Old Wolf looked at Yun Hui in surprise.

Yun Hui nodded, somewhat incredulously, “A colleague from the Special Operations Division is already rushing over, and they’ve told me to keep the phone lines open.”

Old Wolf stealthily glanced at the meditating Mr. Blind, frowning, “Still, I didn’t expect headquarters to agree to his request and to summon that person… that person has been in seclusion for nearly sixty years, right?”

“Indeed…”

Yun Hui nodded and sighed, “In fact, I’ve never seen him; I’ve only heard my master, Daoist Bai Jie, mention him—a person like that… Entering the Way through martial arts and stepping into the Inquiry Phase. Even Xuanyuan Palace’s Qian Division must show some respect to the legendary strongest martial artist… Fiery Cloud Evil God!”

Old Wolf lit his smoking pipe and took a slow drag, “I also heard that when he made his debut, he challenged the leaders of the Four Spirits Clan and several reclusive masters from the Dao Realm. It was said at the time that, excluding the true dragon, Fiery Cloud Evil God was considered the strongest human in China. Later, he intended to challenge the previous generation’s Greedy Wolf Star. But after Greedy Wolf Star engaged in a duel with the Demon Wolf Woman from the West, he vanished. As a result, Fiery Cloud Evil God declared: ‘I only wish to battle the Wolf Lord, with no regrets in death.ʼ”

Yun Hui remained silently contemplative.

Old Wolf frowned and suddenly asked, “Are you thinking about what Qingxia Zi mentioned… the impending calamity?”

He nodded, his expression heavy, “The Dao Monster and bureau personnel mysteriously disappeared, didn’t they… If so many powerful figures can’t handle certain situations and vanished, then this so-called calamity…”

Old Wolf said nothing, continuing to smoke his pipe in silence.

The phone suddenly rang—headquarters had connected… Fiery Cloud Evil God!

…

…

After leaving the hotel, Zhang Qingrui quickly returned to the Song Family’s ancestral residence, accompanied by Mr. Aqi.

By morning, the villagers who had arrived early had already left. The Song family had just finished lunch when Zhang Qingrui hurriedly explained the cooperation issues to Old Master Song.

Since Zhang Li Lanfang and Song Tianyou had already reached a consensus earlier, the originally planned action on the second day of the Lunar New Year was moved forward; after some hesitation, Old Master Song agreed.

The team, which had been prepared for a long time, was waiting outside. For them, festival days and ordinary days were already a different concept.

After a round of discussions, Old Master Song quickly instructed Uncle Wu to mobilize the personnel.

But Song Tianyou didn’t go in person this time; instead, he had Song Haoran lead the team, while Song Ying was left behind by Song Tianyou—although Miss Ying had a strong curiosity, she was sensible enough not to interfere in the Song family’s business.

The Song family’s people had settled down in a city twenty kilometers away, so it wouldn’t take long to get there from here.

“You’re going too?”

Song Ying was surprised when Luo Qiu willingly requested to participate. In her impression, this guy seemed more suited to a study or a kitchen?

Luo Qiu smiled and replied, “Yes, I heard you say it’s supposedly one of Emperor Qin’s secret chambers, never discovered before, so I’m curious. Also, your grandfather doesn’t seem to mind.”

Song Ying raised an eyebrow slightly and suddenly said, “Isn’t it still a bit too formal… calling him my grandfather?”

“Does your body still feel uncomfortable?” Luo Qiu asked off-topic, casually inquiring, “I just heard you asked someone to get some tomato juice—did you feel queasy after waking up?”

“Don’t change the subject,” Song Ying shook her head, “Forget it… My grandfather does think it’s good for men to train more. But I’m surprised he actually let you go along. I thought he would treat you like treasure.”

Luo Qiu just smiled and didn’t say anything.

“Here, take this,” Song Ying abruptly shoved something into Luo Qiu’s hand.

Luo Qiu glanced at it and found it was a micro handgun, a Ruger LC9s.

Luo Qiu: ??

Song Ying casually said, “I use this for self-defense normally. If you go along tonight, Song Haoran will definitely give you some weapons to use. Even if it’s just to explore a tomb that no one has been to, the world is full of uncertainties; you never know if there’s danger. So, it’s always good to have a backup. If you lose the original weapon and encounter danger, having a spare will make you thank me.”

“I’ll cherish it well,” Luo Qiu gratefully put away the Ruger LC9s, then curiously asked, “By the way, how do you usually hide it? It seems quite inconspicuous.”

“Why do you care how I hide it! Just take it! You’re so fussy!” Song Ying glared at him fiercely, then walked away by herself, but hadn’t gone far before she turned back, threateningly saying, “Don’t lose it! Remember to return it to me afterward! I’m only lending it to you!”

Luo Qiu weighed the handgun again, then casually tossed it into his backpack.

Taking it out when in danger… naturally, that wouldn’t happen. Just leave it there and return it when we get back.

“Song Ying seems to care about you a lot.”

The voice of Zhang Qingrui.

The young lady from the Zhang Family approached slowly, with a faint smile on her face. Since a very early time, Zhang Qingrui always gave people a warm spring breeze feeling… She clearly saw the scene where Song Ying passed the gun to him.

Luo Qiu thought for a moment, then softly said, “Perhaps she values family a lot.”

“Family…” Zhang Qingrui mused thoughtfully.

“Is there something you need from me?”

Zhang Qingrui smiled, “Not really, just seeing how your preparations are going. Honestly, I’m quite surprised you volunteered to join. I heard the Song Family had a hard time bringing you back, and it’s unexpected that Old Master Song allowed your involvement… Considering the circumstances, who knows if there’s any danger.”

Of course, Zhang Qingrui didn’t think Luo Qiu would be in any real danger… if the letter she once read, written by herself to her future self, was true.

“How about you?” Luo Qiu curiously asked, “You could completely skip this kind of activity, like running an antique shop or related projects.”

Zhang Qingrui sighed softly: “My grandmother had already explored dozens of tombs by my age.”

“There’s something on your shoulder,” Luo Qiu suddenly said.

Zhang Qingrui was startled but then saw Luo Qiu gently brush her shoulder… a very light touch, his fingers passing over her shoulder.

Of course, Zhang Qingrui didn’t believe Luo Qiu was using an excuse to touch her, considering they’d been classmates for a whole year without any such intention from him… to use a bit of trendy humor, he’s a typical ‘Buddha-like player.’

Perhaps there really was something on her, huh?

“Thanks,” Zhang Qingrui expressed her gratitude.

“You’re welcome,” Luo Qiu smiled, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll go prepare.”

Zhang Qingrui glanced at Luo Qiu’s backpack, her face playfully teasing as she chuckled, “Are you going to stuff a coat into your ‘Hundred Treasures Bag’ again?”

Emmm… this was the most spacious backpack Luo Qiu could find. Maybe he was pushing it a little.

“Alright, I won’t tease you anymore, go and get ready,” Zhang Qingrui said softly.

Luo Qiu nodded decisively and walked back to his room—watching his departing back, Zhang Qingrui suddenly exhaled a sigh.

Her hand pulled out of her down jacket pocket, holding a short black handgun as well.

Zhang Qingrui sighed, put the hand back into her pocket, and looked up at the sky.

The weather wasn’t good; she needed to be more alert.

…

…

‘Suzuki Yuuichi’ showered, then walked out with a towel around his neck—the physique was still quite good despite his aging body, the muscle definition clear even at sixty.

He casually drank some water, heading to the suite’s living room, finding ‘Haruxin Suzuki’ still enthusiastically gazing at the laptop.

“Still looking for news about last night’s phenomenon?” ‘Suzuki Yuuichi’ frowned, “Get ready, we need to leave soon.”

‘Haruxin Suzuki’ turned his head, squinting with a smile, “No, I just bought something.”

“Bought?” ‘Suzuki Yuuichi’ was taken aback.

Though the Suzuki-kai is the strongest in the Kanto Region of the insular country, with many resources at its disposal, and the Suzuki Group is among the country’s top ten large conglomerates with countless assets. Though not comparable to peak families, it’s a sizable family.

Moreover, the Suzuki Family is quite young, with more room for future growth… Of course, this was all before Suzuki Yuuichi and Haruxin Suzuki were invaded.

Lian Zhen was surprised because, with the Suzuki Family’s capability, anything needed could be obtained with a word from them. He didn’t understand why Yamata no Orochi needed to buy anything… Could it be this guy picked up human bad habits, loving to shop online after being possessed?

“An isolated overseas island, bought at auction,” ‘Haruxin Suzuki’ smiled pleasantly, “Elder Brother Lian Zhen, the buying and selling of islands has become legal… Though I’m not sure its use right now, having a legally protected island might be handy someday… Pffft!”

Suddenly, ‘Haruxin Suzuki’ spat a mouthful of fresh blood, splattering the laptop screen!

“What happened?” ‘Suzuki Yuuichi’s’ expression turned grim.

They had a symbiotic contract with Yamata no Orochi, and if Yamata no Orochi suffers severe damage, part of it transfers to him!

Sharing joys and hardships is not just talk.

‘Haruxin Suzuki’ looked pale, with a hint of panic, “The trace of Soul Power I left on Ms. Zhang was… exterminated…”
