Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1598 Water

It didnʼt take a genius to figure out that the waves of Demons would be set at a particularly high difficulty. The youths of the 073 Sanctum wouldnʼt even survive the first wave, and their skills-whatever they might be—would be useless.

Nosphaleen was sure that some of them might have some niche abilities she could make use of, but there were tens of thousands of them and she didnʼt have the time to vet them one by one. There wasnʼt enough time.

She would just end up wasting her time defending them all. Her top priority was Sylasʼ safety; they would just die because she would rather that than overextending herself and putting Sylas in danger.

Plus, Sylas was the lynchpin to all of this. If Sylas died, Nosphaleen-who wasnʼt a real member of the Sanctum to begin with-couldnʼt continue on her own in the first place.

The disciples looked toward one another. The massacre of the geniuses of the bottom 60 was still fresh in their minds. Every one of them had died pitifully.

They werenʼt fools. Since this was a task for the top 40 Sanctums, the difficulty would reflect that.

A disciple picked at random from any one of the 031 to 040 Sanctums was capable of killing the best disciples in the bottom 60 with a single stroke. How much larger was the gap in the top 30?

Nosphaleenʼs words made sense.

”Maybe I can help.”

Nosphaleen looked up to see Scarval.

From the start, Scarval was meant to be the trump card of the 073 Sanctum. Before Sylas, he was the cream of the crop and had purposely stayed in the F-tier for a very long time to refine his foundation.

Nosphaleenʼs expression didnʼt change as she looked at this youth.

”Leave, or I kill you now.”

Scarvalʼs pupils constricted into pinholes. He was taken aback by the aggressiveness, but there was little denying the note of threat in Nosphaleenʼs voice.

She would definitely do it.

One after another, the members of the 073 Sanctum began to give up. Soon, the only one left was Scarval.

The latter seemed to be hesitating about something, and then he eventually sighed.

Decades of planning just to end like this. How depressing.

Soon, he too vanished, leaving Nosphaleen alone with Sylas lying in silence on her lap.

With a motion of her telekinesis, Nosphaleen picked Sylasʼ body up and began to walk.

Her destination?

Water.

That was where she was most comfortable anyway.

Scarval appeared in the region of the 073 Sanctum, his eyes gloomy and his lips pressed into a fine line. He looked toward his grandfather, whose expression was a bit hard to read but was about as ugly as the Warlord would usually show to the outside world.

It was clear neither of the two of them were happy.

Unfortunately, what they didnʼt know was that even if Sylas had been awake, the result would have been the same.

Sylas didnʼt know why the Tiger Lineage would both be traitor and waste a talent like Scarval on the F-tier, but since he couldnʼt figure it out, he had no plans on taking risks on it.

Clearly, Nosphaleen knew enough about the situation to react the same way. Who knew when Scarval might try to backstab them?

The problem with that line of thought was that neither Sylas nor Nosphaleen knew exactly what Scarval would get out of such an action. What would be the purpose of backstabbing them now? There didnʼt seem to be anything to gain from it.

But it was far better to be safe than sorry.

”We will leave this matter to her, then. There is no better option,” the 713th Whale Warlord said softly.

No one replied, but they knew that she was right.

Elbrum couldnʼt help but chuckle from his perch. Interesting, indeed, but also quite predictable.

Now this would certainly make things more interesting.

”Youʼre cruel. How are you going to treat a beauty like this?” the Emperor Dove pouted.

”If she knows whatʼs good for her, sheʼll give up when the time comes. She was fatigued battling those scrubs— what will she do when she has to face the same number with much better stats? Even if sheʼs individually as strong as that tyke the 001 Sanctum threw in, the numbers disadvantage is too much of a problem. Having absolute strength isnʼt even enough if the numbers are big enough.”

The Emperor Doveʼs pout only deepened. ”Iʼm definitely saving her. Maybe sheʼll give me a kiss.”

Elbrum ignored him. This guy had beauties lined up for miles around his home. The universe was huge. The number of beauties was a dime a dozen.

The real question was if they had pedigree and strength. Nosphaleen hadnʼt proven either yet, at least not to the standard of the Emperor Sanctum.

It was true that the more perfect oneʼs Genes, the more beautiful they tended to be. But that alone wasnʼt enough of a gauge.

He had no interest in protecting Nosphaleen purely for her beauty, especially not when she had another manʼs head in her lap.

Nosphaleen didnʼt know the thoughts of those in the outside world, nor did she care. Her thoughts were singularly focused.

Hold on for as long as she could and protect Sylas while doing so. If she had to reveal her true capabilities to do so, then that would just have to be what she did.

Winning was important to Sylas, so it was important to her.

It didnʼt take Nosphaleen long to find a body of water. She had sensed it from afar as though it was calling out to her spirit. However, as one might expect, the waters in the Demon World, even by simulation, werenʼt exactly what she was used to.

The waves roared in shadows of black and silver, a thick aura hanging over top. It felt particularly frigid and cold.

Nosphaleen slowly approached it, Sylas hovering to her side. She pressed a palm down and thought for a moment.

Then, she nodded to herself and took a step forward.
