Chapter 2797: Chapter 2797: Tang Qin Hao Thanked Yu Qi

“What?! Kidnapped? Who on earth would dare kidnap you?!” Yu Qi’s eyes widened in dramatic disbelief.

“I am not entirely sure yet. The official investigation is still underway.” Tang Qin Hao shook his head. He then offered a faint smile, as if recalling a curious memory. “Don’t you want to know how I escaped?”

“How?” Yu Qi asked, leaning forward with practised curiosity.

“Two kind-hearted strangers saved me.” Tang Qin Hao explained. “Apparently, they happened to spot the criminals abducting me, trailed the getaway vehicle to their hideout, and pulled me out.”

He paused, a look of genuine gratitude crossing his face. “I am really indebted to them.”

Yu Qi lowered her gaze slightly to hide the amused gleam in her eyes before looking back up with an expression of deep relief.

“Thank goodness you are alright. You were incredibly lucky those strangers happened to see what occurred, otherwise…” Yu Qi let the sentence trail off ominously before frowning at him. “Did you inform Grandpa and the rest of the family?”

“No, there was no need.” Tang Qin Hao shook his head.

“What?” Yu Qi scolded gently. “You definitely should inform them about something this serious, especially Auntie Su Xiao! She is always worrying about your safety.”

“I know,” Tang Qin Hao sighed. “I just didn’t want to cause an unnecessary panic when I’m already safe and sound.”

“You still ought to tell them.” Yu Qi insisted firmly.

“Fine, I will bring it up the next time I visit home.” Tang Qin Hao finally conceded.

Yu Qi nodded in satisfaction, though she maintained her stern expression for effect. Being abducted by criminal operatives was hardly a minor inconvenience.

“Actually, I was planning to head back to the main residence soon.” Tang Qin Hao took another bite of his sandwich.

“Back home?” Yu Qi asked.

“Hmm. It has been a while since I checked in on Grandpa and the family. Since my schedule finally cleared up, I thought I should spend a few days there.” Tang Qin Hao explained.

“That’s a wonderful idea.” Yu Qi smiled genuinely. “Grandpa will be thrilled to have you back.”

“Hopefully.” Tang Qin Hao smiled back.

The two continued enjoying their quiet snack, chatting casually about routine hospital matters and family updates. On the surface, it was just a typical conversation between two close relatives on a late-night break.

Tang Qin Hao sat there completely unaware of just how close he had been to absolute catastrophe, or that the two masked “kind-hearted strangers” who had raided a black-site compound to rescue him were currently sitting right across from him, eating a vending machine sandwich.

And Yu Qi was more than happy to let him keep believing in mysterious guardians.

However, what Yu Qi failed to realize was that Tang Qin Hao had already deduced the truth. He knew with absolute certainty that she and Long Hui were his masked saviours, having deliberately sought her out to observe her reactions. Despite Yu Qi’s pristine acting, that single microexpression flickering across her face had not escaped his razor-sharp perception.

Tang Qin Hao felt a profound sense of gratitude toward the couple. Had they not intervened, he shuddered to think what fate awaited him in the hands of those mercenaries. Yet, if his younger sister wished to keep her identity concealed, he was more than happy to play along. He reasoned that they must have a valid reason for hiding their involvement. Respecting her choice, he would feign complete ignorance.

As for the orchestrators behind his abduction, local authorities had hit a dead end despite the mountain of evidence gathered at the scene. The mastermind clearly possessed immense political backing in that nation, effectively stalling any further official investigation.

“I should get back to my office.” Yu Qi said, brushing crumbs off her hands as she stood up.

“Mhm.” Tang Qin Hao responded mildly. He watched her push her chair back. Just as she turned to leave, he called out softly. “Yu Qi.”

Yu Qi paused, turning back with a polite tilt of her head. “Yes, Brother Qin Hao?”

“Thank you. For everything.” Tang Qin Hao offered a warm, genuine smile.

Before Yu Qi could press Tang Qin Hao on the cryptic statement, he turned on his heel and strode down the quiet corridor.

Yu Qi stood frozen, her eyes narrowing as she watched his retreating figure disappear around the corner. An uneasy feeling settled in her chest. She genuinely began to wonder if her sharp-witted brother had pieced something together regarding his rescue.

‘No, that’s impossible. Brother Hui and I were completely disguised. There is no way he could have recognised us,’ Yu Qi reassured herself.

Her mastery over disguise techniques was practically flawless. With the rabbit mask concealing her facial features, altered posture, and invisible mode, she bore zero resemblance to her everyday self. Tang Qin Hao couldn’t possibly know. Or so she believed.

What Yu Qi had overlooked was Tang Qin Hao’s extraordinary observational prowess. Having spent his entire career analyzing minute physiological responses and tracking brain activity through complex diagnostic machinery, he was uniquely attuned to human behaviour. A person’s subtle gestures, micro-expressions, speech rhythms, and unconscious physical habits were as readable to him as a medical chart.

Moreover, he knew his younger sister’s subconscious mannerisms better than almost anyone. Initially, he had only harboured a lingering suspicion. There had been an undeniable air of familiarity about the masked woman who stormed his cell, though he could not immediately place it.

However, after she saved him and personally treated his poison, those doubts crystallized into absolute certainty.

The specific way she shifted her weight.

The subtle pitch of her voice.

The exact, familiar furrow of her brow when she was genuinely concerned.

Even the subconscious habits she displayed when trying to appear nonchalant.
