Starting as a Blind Beggar and Becoming a God

Chapter 140 The Corpse's Story Before DeathChapter 140 The Corpse’s Story Before Death

”I’m going to the next village to collect the bodies and then go back to Longchang County. If you don’t mind the trouble, you can come with me. If you want to go back, I can show you a way. If you follow this road, you will reach Longchang County in less than half a month.” said the returning man.

”I’ll go with you. I hope you don’t mind me being blind.”

”How could that be?” The returnee waved his hands, as if he didn’t care about it at all.

”Then trouble you.”

”It’s out of the way.”

”By the way, what’s your name? We can’t keep calling you a returnee.”

”My name is Meng Qiu.” Meng Qiu said his name, and then looked at the dead people on the ground. Seeing this, Chen Huaian asked, ”Brother Meng Qiu, when are we leaving?”

He could tell that when Meng Qiu looked at the corpses, he was sure that they had rested well and were ready to set off at any time, but Meng Qiu thought that he was a blind man and it had not been easy for him to come this far, so he wanted him to rest for a while longer.

”Wouldn’t you like to take a rest?” Meng Qiu asked.

”No, I’m not that delicate.”

”That’s good.”

Then, Meng Qiu came to the corpses, made hand gestures, and said, ”Animal, get up!”

Immediately afterwards, all the corpses stood up with a ”swoosh”.

Chen Huaian raised his eyebrows when he saw this. He asked Meng Qiu in confusion, ”Why do you call them animals? Aren’t they...”

Chen Huaian was interrupted by Meng Qiu before he could finish. ”Shh, I know what you are going to say, but you can’t say they are human. Once you say they are human, they might really think they are human and then they won’t obey you. That will be difficult to deal with.”

”So that’s how it is.” Chen Huaian nodded, thinking to himself, ”There are a lot of tricks involved here.”

”So, you should call them beasts instead of humans in front of them, so that they will listen to you.”

”Speaking of which, these people have been dead for some time. I can faintly smell the stench of corpses. Is it possible that their spirit is still there?” Chen Huaian asked.

In Chen Huaian’s understanding, a person’s essence and energy usually dissipate after three days. Some special beings, such as those with great perseverance or great kindness, will have their essence and energy remain for seven days. Others will generally dissipate in three days. Given Meng Qiu’s current situation, their essence and energy will definitely last for more than three days.

The existence of essence and qi proves that a person still has a breath, which is the person’s last breath. When the essence and qi dissipate, the person is completely dead.

”This, this is our special method. It can gather the energy of a person. But the dead cannot be resurrected, so the person is still dead, but can only execute some simple commands.”

”So that’s how it is.” Chen Huaian nodded thoughtfully.

”It’s been a boring journey. Let me tell you how they all died.”

”Can it still be like this!?”

”Of course! When I gather their energy, I can see the scenes before they die, so I know how they died. Of course, I have no way of knowing if they were ambushed.”

“Wouldn’t this be bad?
”It’s okay. People are dead. When they die, it’s like a light goes out. In the end, only relatives and friends may care about them. Who else will care?”

”It still counts...”

”Hey, don’t say that. I’m almost suffocated staying with them all day. I’m only telling you and not anyone else.”

Without waiting for Chen Huaian to refuse, Meng Qiu began to talk about how these people died.

”This,” Meng Qiu pointed at the man in the tattered red clothes, ”he was captured by Long Yang, but he is not as good as Long Yang. He was captured by a bandit and made his wife.”

”The world is so big that there are all kinds of strange things.” Chen Huaian was silent for a while and could only say this.

He had only heard of women being forcibly abducted to be wives of bandits, but he had never heard of a man being captured to be a wife of a bandit. Seeing Chen Huaian’s reaction, Meng Qiu smiled and said, ”In fact, he was quite handsome when he was alive. The red clothes he wore were also given to him by those bandits.”

”It’s true... beauty is the root of trouble.”

”And this one, this one is even worse,” Meng Qiu pointed at a man in cloth and said, ”His wife is having an affair. He’s working hard outside to make money, but his wife is cheating on him, and all the guys from her village have slept with her.”

”At the end of the day, the man had six children, none of whom were his own, and he had raised most of them to adulthood, without him even knowing it.”

”He knew all this because he was out working and came back early because of the rain. He was caught in bed with his wife, and her husband blamed him for coming back so early. Later, the adulterer decided to tell her everything, otherwise he would never know. In a rage, he killed the woman, and then ran away for half a month before getting lost and dying in the mountains.”

After Meng Qiu finished speaking, Chen Huaian shook his head, ”After working hard for most of my life, I still don’t have a child of my own. It’s really pitiful.”

”and this……”

Meng Qiu talked incessantly and Chen Huaian listened quietly. Some of those people’s stories were quite explosive, while some were quite miserable, but without exception, they were not bad people.

”Why, you don’t take orders from bad people?” Chen Huaian asked after listening to their story.

”What the hell, are those people worthy of me sending them home? I’m being kind if I don’t burn them to death.”

”Hahaha, Brother Meng is also a man of temperament.”

”Of course. Moreover, one third of the people here are wandering ghosts. No one is looking for them. I just met them halfway and sent them home.”

”In that case, I’ll give them a ride as well.” Chen Huaian said, taking out the flute from his waist.

”Oh, how rare! I met someone who can play music. Now my journey won’t be lonely anymore.”

Chen Huaian did not reply. He said to the corpses, ”This song is called No Return.”

”There is no joy of returning, the soul is led back, life is separated, and the previous relationship is severed.”

The melody of Wugui sounded, and Meng Qiu had a faint smile on his face, ”What a good song, what a good name.”

Meng Qiu said in his heart, his body swaying left and right to the melody of Wugui, seeming to be enjoying it very much.

After a while, the melody of Wugui stopped, and Meng Qiu’s body swaying from side to side also stopped.

”Good song.”

”That’s ridiculous.”

”This can be considered as a farewell for them to return to their roots.”

”Of course it counts. After they go back, those who have a good relationship with them or are filial to them can even sing operas for them. If they don’t have these, then they can only be buried alive.”

Chen Huaian said nothing, and Meng Qiu ignored him. He continued, ”Just like the woman whose body we are about to collect, she was so miserable. I learned some things about her when I came here. If it weren’t for the fact that the woman’s father had a master around him, I would have killed him.”

”What do you mean?” Chen Huaian frowned. He felt that this matter must be very absurd, and he had also thought of that situation, but he was not sure.

”Her name is Gu Ling’er. One month before her wedding, she was raped. Then rumors about Gu Ling’er spread in their village.”

”However, the man still married Gu Ling’er. Gu Ling’er thought she had escaped from the clutches of the devil, but unexpectedly she fell into another... abyss.”

”Gu Ling’er went to the man’s place because he knew she was raped. She explained, but in a village where men are superior to women, who would believe her?

”The man felt ashamed, and after marrying her he either beat or scolded her every day. I was curious, if he didn’t love her, why did he marry her? And is it so difficult to trust someone?”

Chen Huaian wanted to ask where the man was, but was blocked by the angry Meng Qiu. He spoke too fast and Chen Huaian could not get a word in.
