Starting as a Blind Beggar and Becoming a God

Chapter 137 Half a Year AgoChapter 137 Half a Year Ago

In the middle of the night, Chen Huaian got up from the bed, opened the window, and climbed out.

It’s not that he didn’t want to go through the front door, but the door creaked so loudly that he was afraid of waking Ma Gui up.

When Chen Huaian left the courtyard, he saw that the candlelight in Grandma Rong’s room was still on.

Chen Huaian used magic to transform into a moth, which flew to Grandma Rong’s room and found her folding paper. The table was full of paper birds, but she didn’t seem satisfied and sighed as she looked at the paper birds.

Chen Huaian retracted his magic, said nothing, did nothing, and turned and left.

He was very fast, and arrived at the Hall of Treasures in just a few breaths. ”Is my speed so fast now?!”

This was the first time he mobilized his strength like this after coming out of Penglai Fairy Island. Usually he walked like an ordinary person as usual. However, even if he walked like an ordinary person, his speed was unmatched by ordinary people.

Chen Huai found Baibaotang based on his memory. It was late at night and he didn’t know which room Qiu Yu was in.

”It should have left a mark. It’s a bit troublesome to find it now.”

Chen Huaian didn’t expect that he would come again in the evening, so he didn’t leave any mark on Qiu Yu.

Chen Huaian searched room by room, and with his unremitting efforts, he finally found it. At this moment, Qiu Yu was sleeping soundly.

Chen Huaian climbed in through the window, making a very quiet sound, but Qiu Yu was awakened instantly. Chen Huaian immediately felt that Qiu Yu must have done something unusual in the past.

”Who is it!” Qiu Yu shouted in the darkness.

”I have no ill intentions. I just came to ask you something.” Since Chen Huaian had been discovered, he simply took out a tinder and lit the candle.

”Who are you?” Qiu Yu asked with a frown.

”Chen Huaian.”

”I don’t know you, why are you looking for me?”

”About Ma Gui.” Chen Huaian replied.

Qiu Yu was confused and a little surprised, ”He came to ask about Ma Gui? What’s going on? Could it be...” Qiu Yu immediately had a guess in his mind, but he didn’t say it out loud. Instead, he was testing Chen Huaian’s reaction.

”He’s just a farmer. What could be so worthy of you coming to ask him about his affairs through the window in the middle of the night?”

Chen Huaian was not in a hurry to return to Qiu Yu. He found a chair and sat down. ”Since you said he was just a farmer, I think you should be familiar with the name Soul Purifying Bird.”

When Chen Huaian mentioned the Soul-Purifying Bird, Qiu Yu’s eyes suddenly narrowed and a look of astonishment appeared on his face, as if he didn’t know how Chen Huaian knew about this.

But he quickly concealed this expression, pretending not to know and said, ”I don’t know what you are talking about.”

Seeing this, Chen Huaian did not reply to his words, but said: ”Soul-purifying birds can understand people’s hearts. Their singing can purify people’s souls, wash away people’s sins, and avoid karma. They are rare birds that countless people want to get, but the songs they sing are sung with the essence of life.”

”Their existence is often accompanied by suffering, because human desires are endless. In order to wash away their sins, they will obtain the Soul Purifying Bird regardless of the consequences.”

When Chen Huaian said this, Qiu Yuben wanted to say something, but what Chen Huaian said next made him unable to speak.

”He’s dying.”

”Who are you?” Qiu Yu asked. There were many people in this world who knew about the Soul-Purifying Bird. The reason why he pretended to know nothing before was to protect Ma Gui.

”It’s not important. What’s important is that you can trust me completely. If I wanted to kill you, you wouldn’t have a chance to resist. You wouldn’t even notice it because I’ve been following Ma Gui the whole time today. I know every word you said.”

After Chen Huaian finished speaking, Qiu Yu fell silent. After a while, he finally spoke.

He understood that if Chen Huaian wanted to kill him, he would have no ability to resist.

Moreover, after knowing that Ma Gui was the Soul Purifying Bird, the other party did not immediately take it for himself, but came to him to inquire about the situation and care about his life, so he could be sure that Chen Huaian had no bad thoughts about Ma Gui, and might even want to help Ma Gui. ”I didn’t know Ma Gui before, and he found me about half a year ago, and that’s when we met.”

……

”Boss Qiu, I know you are a good person. My mother is dying and I need money to buy medicine. I beg you to give me some on credit.”

”Ma Gui, I am a businessman. As a businessman, I will never do business at a loss.”

”I, I am willing to work for you, I only ask you to lend me some money so that I can buy medicine for my mother.” Ma Gui knelt down and kowtowed heavily to Qiu Yu.

”What do you mean? Get up quickly.” Qiu Yu hurriedly helped Ma Gui up.

”You’re making it very difficult for me. I have so many people to make a living under my command. I can’t help you for no reason.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Huaian nodded thoughtfully. This was indeed in line with the image of a businessman, who would not do business at a loss.

When Qiu Yu saw Chen Huaian nod, he didn’t say anything. He continued to talk about what happened half a year ago.

”I...” Ma Gui looked conflicted, his fists clenched, as if he was making some important decision.

”Go now. It’s not that I won’t help you. I can pay for your medicine once, but it’s impossible for me to do that later. My people have to eat too. I’m a businessman, not a good person.”

”Boss Qiu, I know you have committed a lot of sins and the karma is very deep. If I can help you eliminate them, can you pay me some money to buy medicine for my mother?”

”What!” Qiu Yu was shocked. The matter of karma had been bothering him for a long time, keeping him awake at night and unable to sleep well. Now that Ma Gui said he could eliminate it for him, how could he not be excited.

”Are you serious?” Qiu Yu asked excitedly.

”Really.” Ma Gui nodded seriously.

After Ma Gui finished speaking, Qiu Yu showed a puzzled expression on his face, ”But how are you going to help me eliminate it?”

”I am... the Soul Purifying Bird, from Penglai.”

Qiu Yu paused here, as if recalling, ”That’s how we met. When I knew he was the Soul Purifying Bird, I was shocked. That’s the Soul Purifying Bird that everyone wants. And he came from Penglai, which is the fairyland that everyone yearns for!”

Chen Huaian was shocked. ”The Soul-Purifying Bird came from Penglai, but why is there no record of it in the Shushan classics? According to the Shushan records, the Soul-Purifying Bird was born between heaven and earth, and was born because of the heavy sins in the world.”

Chen Huaian frowned and decided to find some time to ask Ma Gui about it.

”Don’t you have the idea of taking it for yourself? After all... that’s the Soul-Purifying Bird, and it comes from Penglai. Maybe you can use it to find Penglai’s whereabouts.” Chen Huaian asked Qiu Yu.

Qiu Yu smiled bitterly, ”I did have some thoughts at the time. After all, it was the Soul Purifying Bird, a rare bird that is hard to come by, and it might also have information about Penglai. But I quickly gave up the idea, for no other reason than that I was a bandit in the past, robbing the rich to help the poor.”

”Once, due to false information, I killed a good family of more than 100 people, leaving no one alive. Since then, I swore that I would never do such a thing again, and I would retire from being a bandit from now on.”

”My karma was also contracted at that time, so I tried my best to control my desires. Later, I also treated him as a friend. If I didn’t have a big family to support, I would definitely help him with all my strength.”

”No wonder you woke up when I came in. It seems that your fearful days in the past have made you develop this cautious habit. However, people who can control their desires are extraordinary.”

Chen Huaian said, Qiu Yu nodded.

”So he has been washing your sins and eliminating your karma for the past six months, consuming his life essence?”

Qiu Yu nodded, and Chen Huaian stopped talking. ”Don’t tell anyone about what happened today. Do you understand?”

”clear.”

After Chen Huaian finished speaking, he jumped out of the window and left.
