Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 403: Chapter 403: It Seems I Must Find Another Way Out

The three of them had just entered Yunyi’s office when a patient’s relative came looking for her. ”Doctor Chu, my sister’s wound is bleeding again. Could you please come and check on it?”

Yunyi glanced at Ye Wenhui and Wei Zijia. ”Wait for me for a moment. I’ll be right back.”

She turned and followed the patient’s relative to the ward in the back.

When she saw blood oozing from the patient’s wound, she said with some displeasure, ”This wound was almost healed. How could it start bleeding again?”

The patient’s relative looked distressed. With helpless frustration, she said, ”It’s all because her unreasonable mother-in-law came over again! Can you believe it? She had the audacity to visit her injured daughter-in-law empty-handed and even tried to take the nutritional supplements our family prepared for her!”

Hearing this, Yunyi thought, Every family certainly has its own troubles.

She re-treated the wound. ”You must be careful from now on. If this happens again, it could become serious.”

The patient, probably feeling embarrassed, kept her head down. Upon hearing Yunyi’s remark, she softly uttered, ”Mhmm,” and then said no more.

Yunyi didn’t want to meddle in other people’s family affairs. After finishing up, she left.

As soon as Yunyi entered the office, Ye Wenhui approached her. ”Sister, Ye Wenjuan has found out about her birth origins. You need to be careful these next few days.”

While washing her hands, Yunyi asked, ”How did she find out?”

Ye Wenhui passed her a towel from the shelf. ”It was her cousin—oh no, her biological brother, Zhang Qiangjun, who called her.”

Yunyi now had a better understanding of the situation. The Zhang Family must have gotten the contact number for this side of the Agricultural Reclamation Group from the third branch of the Ye Family. Otherwise, Ye Wenjuan wouldn’t have received the news so quickly, she figured.

However, when she thought of Wu Bingjie, she realized, Even if the third branch hadn’t given them the contact number, Wu Bingjie probably wouldn’t have kept this a secret.

Her assumption was correct. After Wu Bingjie received the phone call, he agonized over it for a while but eventually went to find Yunyi.

After being thrown out by Yunyi, Bingjie was reluctant to give up and decided to seek out Ye Wenjuan. ”Wenjuan,” he began, ”no matter what, you were raised in the Ye Family. Can you ask Ye Wenhui to plead with Yunyi on my mom’s behalf? Ask her to let my mom off the hook?”

Fearing Ye Wenjuan might refuse, he quickly added, ”Your current status is awkward. It’s likely no one in our social circle will let their son marry you. But I’m different. I like you, and you know this. As long as my mom is fine, our family will be fine. I assure you, I will marry you with all the honor and dignity you deserve. Even if the Ye Family doesn’t recognize you, you still have me. You’ll have the Wu and Qin Families supporting you.”

Indeed, these words swayed the already distressed Ye Wenjuan.

My mother—oh no, my aunt—has always favored sons over daughters, Ye Wenjuan thought bitterly. She never cherished me as much as my brother, let alone now that I’m not even a child of the Ye Family. Knowing her temperament, she’ll probably start to detest me. The Ye Family never held me in high regard anyway. Even after having three children, there was little affection between my husband and me. With a scandal like this, my life is bound to become even more difficult. It’s impossible to expect any protection from them.

What Bingjie said is right, she conceded to herself. I need to find another way out.

What my biological brother said on the phone doesn’t contradict what Bingjie said, she mused, facing a dilemma. I’ve never gotten along with Ye Wenhui, so she probably won’t help me. What am I supposed to do?

At that moment, Bingjie spoke up, ”I know you and Ye Wenhui aren’t on good terms, and the chance of her helping you is slim. However, we can...”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but Ye Wenjuan clearly saw the scheming glint in his eyes.
