Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Coming to the Door

Ye Wenyang heard his father’s words and knew he was at fault. But the memory of a despondent Sister Wenyue from a few days ago made his heart ache.

He had always been Sister Wenyue’s little shadow since childhood. When their parents were busy with work, it was Sister Wenyue, his elder sister, who took care of him. Now that such a thing had happened, seeing her so sad truly broke his heart.

Xia Dongxue also knew Wen Yue was innocent. But Wen Yue was, after all, a child of the third branch. Dongxue couldn’t possibly allow her to stay here just because Yunyi refused to return to live with the Ye Family; that might completely remove any possibility of Yunyi’s return.

She couldn’t manage that much now. She had neither the mood nor the time to comfort Wen Yue; she only wanted to do everything in her power to win back her daughter.

Her younger son merely wanted Wen Yue to come back, but she didn’t want to give her daughter false hope or cause misunderstandings. So, she could only be heartless and avoid initiating contact with Wen Yue.

After all, the third branch didn’t lack anything, and Wen Yue’s life wouldn’t change too drastically after returning, especially now that she had her own job.

Not wanting to discuss this with her younger son any longer, she turned and walked to the kitchen.

Ye Bingyu saw his wife leave. ”Ye Wenyang,” he said, ”you can have your own little schemes, but don’t show them in front of your mother and sister. If you hurt them, I’ll see how I deal with you.”

Ye Wenyang felt a bitter taste in his mouth. For a daughter who didn’t even plan to return to the Ye Family, his father showed such an attitude. Wasn’t he afraid of hurting him too?

But after his own father warned him, he too turned and left.

He stared at the things laid out on the bed. His eyes were full of conflict.

「At the Zhang Family home.」

Old Master Zhang looked at his despondent son. ”No matter what,” he said, ”our Zhang Family has wronged the Ye Family.”

He sighed. ”If your wife hadn’t harbored those ill intentions and had properly raised the little girl, none of this embarrassment would have happened. But your wife simply lacks the generosity to tolerate others. To think she’d discard a good child like that!”

Zhang Baosheng had met with his wife yesterday. Fang Zhichun still hadn’t recognized her mistake, even now. She kept insisting that if Qin Lijuan hadn’t switched the babies first, she wouldn’t have conceived such a plan.

She even cried and begged him to go to Ye Bingyu, asking them to forgive her for the sake of their past relationship.

She really had the gall to say that. If he actually dared to plead on her behalf, he feared Ye Bingyu and Xia Dongxue would join forces to give him a thorough beating, both physically and emotionally.

However, no one expected that the Zhang Family’s eldest daughter, Zhang Meizi, had secretly sought out the Ye Family.

Ye Wenyang came out and saw a woman standing at the front gate. ”Who are you looking for?” he asked.

Zhang Meizi said nervously, ”Could you please tell me, is this Ye Bingyu’s home?”

Xia Dongxue emerged from the kitchen just in time to hear this. ”Wenyang, who is it?” she asked.

After the Zhang Family returned to the village, Xia Dongxue had even gone to visit them. Hearing Xia Dongxue’s voice, Zhang Meizi said, ”Aunt Xia, it’s me, Meizi.”

Xia Dongxue saw it was Zhang Meizi. ”What brought you here?” she asked.

Zhang Meizi walked forward and, without a word, abruptly knelt with a THUD before Xia Dongxue. ”Aunt Xia,” she said, ”I’ve come about my mother’s issue.”

The moment Zhang Meizi knelt, Xia Dongxue stepped aside. Her expression turned cold as she heard Meizi’s words. ”State your business. Don’t pull this stunt. Does your mother think she hasn’t caused our family enough trouble? Have you come to add to it?”

Zhang Meizi was startled by those words. ”I didn’t mean to, Aunt Xia,” she said. ”I know my mother was wrong, but could you, for the sake of us children, forgive her?”

Thinking of her own husband’s reaction when he found out about the Yue Family’s troubles, she shivered.

Xia Dongxue said coldly, ”Stand up. If you don’t get up, I’ll have someone call the police.”

Zhang Meizi saw Xia Dongxue’s serious demeanor and quickly got up, pleading pitifully, ”Aunt Xia, I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Xia Dongxue was not moved by her act. She herself had been fooled by that exact tactic before—naively believing they were friends for many years, only to be thoroughly played for a fool.

Now, witnessing this performance, which perfectly mirrored her mother’s manipulative tricks, she just felt annoyed.

Zhang Meizi saw that Xia Dongxue was unmoved. ”Aunt Xia,” she pleaded, ”I know it’s shameless to ask you to forgive my mother, but I had no choice. If something happens to my mother, we’ll all be implicated. Please, I beg you.”

At that moment, Ye Bingyu, who had heard the commotion and came from the backyard, said coldly, ”If you want to convey something, have your father come talk to me. What’s the meaning of sending a junior here to play tricks?”
