Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 402: Chapter 402 I Beg to Differ

Zhang Meizi looked extremely uncomfortable. Her father had no idea she had come to Beijing to seek out the Ye Family.

She had indeed gone back to plead with her own father to approach the Ye Family for mercy, but her father had said he couldn’t bring himself to, as it was her mother who had made the mistake.

Seeing Uncle Ye, who had been so kind to them in her childhood, now speaking to her with a stern face, she instinctively shrank back. ”Uncle Ye, I... I know my mother did something wrong, and I know I shouldn’t be asking you to let her off.

”But as her daughter, I really can’t bear to see her sent to prison at her age.

”I’ve inquired before. I know that although your daughter suffered some hardship after being separated, the family that adopted her treated her like a precious treasure. Uncle Ye, Aunt Xia, I know this is asking too much, but considering your daughter has ended up living a decent life, could you possibly find it in your hearts to spare my mother?”

When Xia Dongxue recalled her young daughter being abandoned in the snow, her heart felt as if it were being sliced by a knife. ”Leave,” she said. ”The bond between our families was severed the moment your mother watched Qin Lijuan act and did nothing to stop her.

”To say nothing of how, to cover things up and ensure her own daughter a comfortable life, she also took action to swap Wen Yue with her own child.

”She didn’t just make fools of our Ye Family; she also maliciously threw out such a tiny child. On what grounds should I forgive her? Where do you get the audacity to think I would spare her for your sake?

”Is my own flesh and blood daughter somehow less important than you?

”Please leave, or don’t blame me for forcibly removing you.”

Over here, Zhang Meizi’s arrival made Xia Dongxue so furious she wanted to go and give Fang Zhichun a thrashing.

「On the other hand, Wu Bingjie had also sought out Yunyi.」

Yunyi looked at the man standing before her. ”Are you here because you’re unwell?”

”I’m not here to see a doctor.”

Yunyi frowned slightly. ”If you’re not here for treatment, what kind of trouble are you trying to stir up?”

”My name is Wu Bingjie, and I am Qin Lijuan’s son.”

Yunyi’s expression turned cold. She cut straight to the point, ”If you’re here to plead for her, then save your breath.”

”Back then, she only acted that way because she was emotionally distressed. If your father hadn’t been so harsh with his words, so ruthless in his actions, and hadn’t even gone to my mother’s superiors, she wouldn’t have harbored such resentment.”

Yunyi snorted coldly. ”She knew perfectly well my father was married, yet she still tried to curry favor with him inappropriately. What part of my father’s actions was wrong?”

Wu Bingjie took a deep breath upon hearing Yunyi’s accusatory words. ”Back then, she was just a young girl experiencing the first blush of love. Wanting to pursue someone she fancied—that’s hardly an unpardonable sin, is it?”

”So, you’re saying that even though she did something wrong, it’s still someone else’s fault? I’m sorry, but I can’t agree with that. Please leave immediately, or don’t blame me for not being polite.”

”You’re so young, yet you speak so harshly!”

His father had told him that if they delayed any longer, his mother’s sentence would likely be finalized. Anxious, he took a few steps forward.

Yunyi had the least patience for people with such warped values. She stood up, moved behind him, and before he could react, grabbed Wu Bingjie by the back of his collar and dragged him out of the clinic.

This startled Ye Wenhui and Wei Zijia, who were just arriving to find her.

Ye Wenhui looked at Wu Bingjie, who was sprawled wretchedly on the ground. ”Little Sister, what happened? Why is he here?”

Yunyi dusted off her hands. ”He came looking for trouble, so naturally, he got thrown out.”

Staring at the man on the ground, she warned, ”I’m not good-tempered. Dare to harass me again, and you won’t be so fortunate.”

Having said her piece, she turned to Ye Wenhui. ”Older Sister, what brings you here?”

Ye Wenhui glanced at Wu Bingjie, who was struggling to get up. ”Let’s go inside to talk.”
