Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 714: Secret Ally

The grand doors to the main chamber opened and four men in black robes entered. They radiated an aura of death, decay, and rot, making any weaker Magi who looked at them tremble in fear.

Kissinger, who was nominated by the other two as the spokesperson of the Umbra Thieves, jovially welcomed the four cultists, ”Esteemed guests, I must admit, it is a great pleasure to welcome you all in our city.”

He paused for a moment, his eyes flashing with an inquiring light, ”Of course, if you had informed us of your arrival before, we would have prepared a grand banquet for you.”

Barnabas Booth, who was the more straightforward and outspoken person of the three leaders of the Umbra Thieves, didnʼt miss the chance to mock the newcomers.

”To be honest, it is shocking that your lot hasnʼt abandoned the plans for the city of Ravenfell, considering the loss you suffered a couple of weeks ago.”

The one-eyed Magusʼ lips curled up into a disdainful smirk and he added, ”Rumor has it that a Mana Vortex Magus from your cult was done in by a hairless brat!

”Hah! Not only that, but this same brat who is no stronger than a Rank 2 Magus also dispatched the rest of your cult members in Ravenfell!”

At once, an awkward silence descended in the hall. Now, usually, Kissinger would not take such a remark lightly and would even reprimand—in some manner or the other—Baranabas for his behavior.

However, what Barnabas said was the truth. And honestly, even Kissinger didnʼt like the fact that the Cult of Bones was treating them as disposable allies.

Hearing Barnabasʼ snide remarks, the Magi from the Cult of Bones were visibly angered—all of them except one, that is.

The leader of this group of Rank 3 Magi from the cult, a young man with pale skin and black hair, and eyes that were a striking emerald, looked at Barnabas and politely smiled, ”You are correct, Lord Barnabas.”

Not just Baranabas, even Kissinger and Wendell couldnʼt help but feel slightly taken aback seeing the pale young manʼs demeanor. They had assumed that all the Magi from the cult were highly arrogant and cruel.

Apparently not…

The green-eyed man continued with the same polite smile, ”It is because Ravenfell holds such great importance in our grand plan that we simply cannot abandon it.”

He paused for a moment before continuing, ”And the same goes for you, our allies. I do not know how your relationship with Olin Barrett was, but let me assure you, my lords, I am not him. I am someone who respects and values my allies.”

His lips curled up into a mocking smirk, ”At the very least, I wonʼt be defeated by a Magus weaker than me.”

The direction this conversation was going was completely different from what the three Lords of Umbra Thieves had expected.

They were surprised and glad that they were actually dealing with an amiable Magus from the Cult of Bones.

The previous Magus they were in contact with, Olin Barrett, was completely the opposite of the green-eyed man sitting before them.

Olin Barrett was cold and arrogant, treating them no different from his servants just because he had the backing of an organization as influential as the Cult of Bones.

But this man before them was different.

Kissinger immediately shot a glance at Baranabas, gesturing for the old man to stop taunting any further, and that heʼd be the one to speak from now on.

Then, he glanced at the green-eyed man, who seemed to be in his late twenties, and asked with a smile, ”My Lord, please forgive me, I havenʼt had the opportunity to learn your name.”

The green-eyed man smiled, ”Malcolm Morgan, my lord.”

”Ah, I see.” Kissinger nodded in understanding. ”So, it was Lord Morgan.” He paused for a moment, before continuing, ”Pray tell, my lord. What brings you here? Not to mention, youʼve brought three other Mana Vortex Magi with you.”

”Lord Kissinger,” Malcolm began, his expression solemn. ”Iʼm sure you know by now that Ravenfell has dispatched their armed forces.”

Kissinger nodded with a grave look on his face. ”Indeed.” He paused for a moment before adding, ”But we cannot be certain that they are headed our way.”

Malcolm deeply looked at Kissinger and confirmed, ”They are headed your way, Lord Kissinger, I can assure you that.”

At this moment, Barnabas blurted out, ”That… Thatʼs not possible! Our anti-divination method can conceal our location under the scrying of even a Mana Core Magus!”

He paused for a moment, before thinking of a possibility. The one-eyed Magus couldnʼt help but state in shock, ”Do you mean to say, the Lord of Ravenfell was the one who was able to uncover our location?”

But the next second, he immediately shook his head. ”No, that shouldnʼt be possible either. Magus Blackwood is not well-versed in the school of divination. Weʼve done a thorough analysis of that manʼs capabilities. So then how…”

Malcolm gazed at Barnabas, then at Wendell, before finally looking at Kissinger. He spoke in an extremely solemn tone, ”Just like you have allied with us, Ravenfell has also secretly allied with a powerful secret organization.”

He paused for a moment before speaking with a grave expression, ”This organization, theyʼre as old as, if not older than, the Cult of Bones. Their network is vast and their influence is deep. So it is no surprise that they were able to uncover your true location.”

”An ancient secret organization as powerful as… the Cult?!” Kissinger was shocked, and so were the other two leaders of the Umbra Thieves.

While the three tried to digest this newfound information, Malcolm couldnʼt help but think to himself in ridicule, Olin, oh, Olin, your death was not entirely meaningless, after all.

At the very least, the Cult Leader was able to learn of the involvement of the Twilight Brotherhood!

Malcomed focused his attention on the present. He looked at Kissinger and said, ”That is why the Cult has sent the four of us here to help you. After all, we do not know for sure how many Rank 3 Magi will be present on Ravenfellʼs side.”

At once, the three leaders of the thievesʼ guild began to feel the immense gravity of the situation about to unfold in Blackshore.

”But rest assured, my lords,” Malcom added. ”No matter how many Rank 3 Magi our enemies have, their numbers wonʼt be greater than ours.”

He paused for a moment before getting to his feet, ”The other reason why the Cult Leader has dispatched four of us here is because he wants this battle to be swift, and wants us to deliver a heavy blow to Ravenfellʼs forces.”

The rest of the cultist also got to their feet, ready to leave. The three leaders of Ravenfell stood up as well, seeing them out.

”I shall leave the preparation to you, my lords.” Malcolm pressed his hand against his chest and gave a light bow. The next moment, his eyes flashed with a cunning light.

”Oh and one more thing,” he added with a faint smile. ”At least one Magus from the forces of Ravenfell has already infiltrated your city.”

”What?!” The three leaders were shocked and furious.

”Who?” Kissinger couldnʼt help but press further.

Malcomʼs smile gradually deepened.

”His name… is Adam Constantine.”
