Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 702: Heartfelt Apology

Adam walked toward the Flynn Patriarchʼs study on the second floor.

On the way, he met several Magi from the family who greeted him with familiarity. Adam could be considered a benefactor of the family, after all. Thus, everyone had a great opinion of him and respected him.

Not to mention, the youth had also lent them a helping hand when they had declared war against the Umbra Thieves within the city walls.

No one found it strange that Adam was alone within the family manor, and that he was heading towards the study.

Upon finally reaching his destination, Adam stood before the wooden oak doors. Through his Sphere of Resonance, he could sense Brigham was inside.

None of his emotions or actions missed the youthʼs sharp senses.

He took a deep breath and politely knocked on the door. ”Lord Flynn, itʼs me, Adam.”

The moment Brigham heard his voice, he paused reading the documents in his hands. He raised his head, gazing towards the door with extreme dissatisfaction.

His face instantly darkened and his eyes flashed with indignation, recalling how the youth had treated him a few days ago at Daneliʼs manor.

What the hell is he doing here? He thought while gritting his teeth.

Has he not humiliated me enough?! How dare he come to my house after how he behaved with me that day!

The Flynn Patriarch clenched his fists tightly. The memories from that day kept assaulting his mind. Never in his life had he been disrespected so harshly before.

Not to mention, by a mere brat hundreds of years younger.

But heʼs no mere brat, is he? Reason took hold of the Flynn Patriarch.

No, he was able to take care of that Rank 3 cultist. I donʼt know how, but he was able to somehow do it.

I cannot be careless around him. I must be patient.

The next moment, the dark expression on his face immediately disappeared, replaced by a polite smile. His shoulders loosened a little and he answered, ”Come in, Adam.”

Outside, Adam remained standing outside the door with his head hung low. His lips curled up into a bitter smile as he thought to himself, You still harbor resentment against me, eh, Old Flynn?

I wonder if the source of this hostility is because of what happened between us a few days ago, or something else entirely…

He opened the door and stepped in, revealing a faint smile. ”Lord Flynn, I hope Iʼm not disturbing you.”

”Not at all!” Brigham rose from his seat and welcomed the youth. He offered a handshake, ”Firstly, I must congratulate you on receiving the noble title of Count. You deserve it.”

”Thank you, my lord.” Adam smiled, shaking the old manʼs hand.

”Furthermore, congratulations on being appointed as the Lord Commander of the Black Legion,” Brigham laughed. ”I must say, Adam, it is a most distinguished station, in no way inferior to the title of Count.”

”So Iʼve been told.”

”Come now, take a seat.”

After the two took their respective seats, they stared at each other with polite—fake—smiles. If anyone saw them right now, they wouldnʼt have guessed that their last meeting had been full of hostilities.

While Brigham was closely observing Adam, the latter was observing him.

He could tell that although the old man smiled at him, inside he was filled with spite. The smile never reached his eyes.

”So what brings you here?” Brigham asked after gazing at the youth for a few moments.

”My Lord, Iʼm here to apologize for how I behaved the last time we met,” Adam spoke sincerely, he truly did.

For his friend, he was willing to let bygones be bygones and forgive her father.

The moment those words escaped Adamʼs lips, Brighamʼs eyes narrowed and he involuntarily clenched his fist. However, the next moment, he shook his head with a smile.

”It is all water under the bridge, my friend. In fact, I should be the one apologizing to you. I fell for that cultistʼs trap and ended up abandoning my allies.”

He paused for a moment before slightly lowering his head. ”So, please forgive me.”

Adam deeply looked at the man with complicated emotions. In the end, he faintly smiled. ”I would have done the same If I were in your shoes, Lord Flynn.”

Brigham didnʼt reply. He simply stared at Adam with the same smile—the one that didnʼt reach his eyes.

The raven-haired youth too observed the old man, his heart feeling heavy by the second. After a brief pause, he began, ”My Lord, there is something else Iʼd like to talk to you about.”

”Oh?” Brigham said with a raised eyebrow. ”Pray, do tell.”

”I wish to talk to you about one of the three leaders of the Umbra Thieves, Kissinger,” said the youth.

The moment that name escaped Adamʼs mouth, Brighamʼs eyes flashed with a brief—a very brief—moment of ferocity that he quickly concealed.

”What did you wish to talk about?” Asked Brigham, his voice a tad bit colder.

Adam gazed at the old man for a few moments. There was a hint of pity in his black eyes. His lips curled up into a regretful smile as he answered, ”Nothing… I wanted to fight alongside you to take him down when we attacked the Umbra Thievesʼ stronghold.”

”Anything else?” Brighamʼs eyes narrowed.

”…Nothing at all.” Adam smiled. He then waved his hand and conjured a sealed gourd of wine and two crystal chalices from his earrings.

”This is is my token of apology, Lord Flynn. I hope you will do me the honors,” said Adam as he began unsealing the mouth of the gourd right in front of the Flynn Patriarch.

Brigham gazed at the wine being poured in the two chalices with extreme suspicion.

Noticing that, Adam said jokingly, however his words still contained immense weight, ”Please, donʼt look at me like that, Lord Flynn. By the mana coursing through my veins, I swear the wine is untainted. Haha!”

Brigham Flynn was secretly taken aback. He swore on his mana?!

Still, he didnʼt drink the wine.

Seeing this, Adam picked up with wine goblet and toasted, ”Please, accept my heartfelt apology, Lord Flynn.” With that, he downed the drink in one go.

Only after Adam had drank the wine, did a faint smile appear on the Flynn Patriarchʼs face. He held the chalice placed before him and finally took a sip.

”Apology accepted.”
