Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 701: Night Mare

Adam rode his majestic looking black horse through the streets of the Uptown Quarter.

The steed was gifted to him by Raidon. It was the finest horse bred by the Black Legion. Needless to say, it was a magical beast.

The name of the species was Night Mare. Legend had it that they were born from the tranquil darkness of the night itself.

They had no special features, except they were extremely fast and sturdy. That, and the fact their mana naturally radiated terror towards whoever gazed at them.

Thus, the name Night Mare.

”You donʼt like the city much, do you, girl?” Asked Adam with a smile, as he gently stroked the horseʼs mane.

The horse, as if understanding the youthʼs words, neighed in displeasure.

”Haha!” Adam couldnʼt help but laugh in amusement. ”Very well, then. Once Iʼve sorted out a few things here, weʼll ride down south. How does that sound?”

The horseʼs eyes flashed with brilliance and she neighed happily.

”Good girl!” Adam smiled. ”Weʼll ride through the Acadian Empire, visit a few places on the way. Then, weʼll enter the Murky Mountains and go to the Southern Federation.”

NEIGH!

”Alright, alright, calm down.” Adam chuckled. ”Iʼve to tie a few loose ends here first. So, weʼll leave in a month or two. Itʼll be a nice round trip to the Federation and back. Considering your speed, weʼll return to Ravenfell long before the tournament begins.”

As for his responsibilities as the Lord Commander of the Black Legion? He couldnʼt care less about it. He wasnʼt going to play by Sabrina Bentonʼs rules.

Heʼd leave everything to Raidon before he left. The man wouldnʼt have any issues. He was, after all, the Lord Commander before Adam.

Moreover, the Black Legion would be more than happy to do as he told them, considering he had just given them a very precious mana combat technique.

Adam lowered his head and gazed at the horseʼs dark eyes. His lips curled up into a smile as he asked, ”Do you have a name?”

Since the horse was a Rank 2 magical beast, she had a decent level of intelligence. As such, she could understand most, if not all, of the things the youth said to her.

Seeing the hose shake her head vigorously, Adam found her actions very adorable. ”Very well.”

He thought for a moment before speaking warmly, ”You shall bear the name of one of the twin moons of Tron, a reflection of beauty and grace beneath the night sky. From this day forth, you shall be known as Luna.”

The horse suddenly stopped, then stood on her hind legs in excitement.

NEIGH!!

”You like it, eh?” Adam chuckled while ruffling the horseʼs mane. ”I like it too. Now, let us head to our destination.”

…

Flynn Estate, Uptown Quarter.

Adam stepped down from his mount and landed on the ground with a light jump. It had to be mentioned that Night Mares were quite humongous creatures compared to regular horses.

He handed the reins to one of the guards standing at the entrance of the manor. ”Make sure to feed her.”

”Yes, my lord.” The guard bowed respectfully. He then proceeded to pull Luna by the reins but it proved difficult to do so.

When he used force, Luna glared at him, sending a chill down his spine.

”Luna,” Adam said sternly, ”behave.”

The horse stepped forward, nudging her broad head against the youthʼs cheek. She then allowed the guard to take her to the stables, no longer being as stubborn.

”New mount?” Elysande stood at the entrance to her manor, her gaze shifting between Adam and the beautiful black horse.

”Yes.” Adam nodded as he climbed the marble stairs. ”A gift from the Captain of the Black Legion.”

”Thatʼs right,” Elysande couldnʼt help but lightly smirk. ”Behold the new Lord Commander, Count Constantine.”

Adam rolled his eyes. ”Donʼt be like that.”

”Yes, of course, Count Constantine,” Elysande teased him further.

”Whereʼs your father? Is he home?” Asked the raven-haired youth as the two entered the manor.

Elysandeʼs mood suddenly turned serious. ”Have you still not forgiven him for what happened? Adam, I told you that he didnʼt have a choice.”

Adam shook his head, assuring her, ”Iʼm here to make amends.”

Seeing the confused look on his friendʼs face, he explained, ”Well, the last time we met I had been very rude to him. You canʼt really blame me now, can you? He did, after all, abandon us.”

”And you cannot blame him either.” Elysande stood her ground. ”My father is not without flaws, I agree. But… he is still my father. Whatever he did, he did it for me.”

Thinking back to the secrets that lay between Brigham and Kissinger of the Umbra thieves, Elysande continued, ”Whatever he does, he does for the family.”

Adam deeply looked at her for a few moments before nodding. ”I understand. Anyways, Iʼm here to apologise to him. I think that I may have been too disrespectful to him the other day.”

Elysande snorted in displeasure. ”You think?”

”Aunt Ely! Aunt Ely!” Suddenly, a couple of children came running toward the two in the main hall.

Seeing them, Elysandeʼs expression turned warm and gentle, completely unlike her usual stern demeanor. ”One moment,” she said to them dotingly.

She then turned to look at Adam and said, ”Heʼs in his study on the second floor. I wonʼt be going with you. I promised to spend time with my nephews and nieces.”

”Adam,” she added after a brief pause. ”Whatever difference the two of you seem to have, sort it out.”

With that said, she held the little childrenʼs hands and made her way to the other side of the manor, towards the backyard.

Seeing Elysandeʼs departing back and listening to the sound of the childrenʼs laughter, Adam found it difficult to follow through with what he was planning to do.

Elysande was her friend, after all.

His black eyes flickered with complicated emotions and his hands clenched and unclenched several times.

He stood there for a almost a minute before finally taking a deep breath and making his way towards Brighamʼs study on the second floor.

For you, Elysande… I am willing to give him another chance.
