Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 681: Necromancer

”Adam Constantine, we finally meet.”

Olin Barrett sat on the high-back leather chair. His legs were crossed and he appeared to be at great ease. He had a pale skin like one would see in corpses. He had a head full of black hair, except his hairline was receding.

The man wore black magus robes and radiated an aura of death, decay, and rot. His aura was so eerie that it made one feel that they were standing in a graveyard, surrounded by the spirits of the dead.

Adamʼs eyes narrowed and he set aside his wine glass on the window ledge. At the same time, he secretly tapped a specific spot on the wall.

”How did you get here?” He asked with a grave expression.

Olin Barrett ignored his question. He continued to glance at him with piqued interest. ”You know, I was right about you,” he said while pointing his finger at the youth.

”When I first laid eyes on you all those years ago, I somehow knew you were trouble. Call in instinct, if you will.” His lips curled up into a smirk and he added, ”Iʼm talking about the time when you took care of the Children of the Red God.”

Adam was taken aback. ”Children of the Red God! It really was your doing!”

At the time, it was only his guess, but now that the cultist had confirmed it Adam couldnʼt help but feel shocked by the revelation.

”Indeed.” Olin nodded. ”I had great plans for them. Unfortunately, you and that little elf ruined my plans and I had no choice but to start fostering the Red Fists instead.”

Heʼs spitting out everything! Adam thought to himself solemnly. That could only mean one thing…

He is extremely confident in killing me!

”What is the Cult of Bones planning to do in Ravenfell?” He asked.

Olinʼs smile slowly crumbled, replaced by an icy and ruthless expression. ”You know who we are, eh?”

He paused for a moment before coldly asking, ”You wouldnʼt happen to be from the Brotherhood, would you?”

A drop of sweat trickled down the side of Adamʼs forehead and he replied with a smirk. ”Who knows? Perhaps, Iʼm from the Cult of Bones too, sent here to assist you.”

Olin chuckled coldly, ”You damned cockroaches. It would appear that youʼve followed us here from Europa. Or rather, you people were already here to begin with. Cult Leader was right, after all.”

Cult Leader! Adamʼs eyes narrowed.

He repeated his previous question, ”What are you planning to do in Ravenfell?”

”Weʼre here to burn it to the ground, of course,” Olin Barrett arrogantly spoke with his chin raised.

”But you wonʼt be able to see it come to that. I was right to deem you a special threat. I mean, you did take care of those fourteen useless insects all by yourself, did you not? Although I did not expect Altan to figure out my plan and escape with his wife. Nevermind, they will be taken care of eventually.”

At this point, Olin got up from his seat and started walking towards Adam. He shook his head and heaved a light sigh, ”I cannot allow you to live, Adam Constantine. If you were to grow stronger, that would spell trouble for us. And I have a feeling—”

The manʼs words got stuck in his throat and his eyes narrowed. He suddenly disappeared from the spot and reappeared a few meters behind.

BAM!

The floor where he was previously standing, transmuted into thick spears and pierced through the air and stabbed the ceiling. Had he been a little slower, the floor would have impaled his feet.

Olinʼs pupils constricted and he muttered, ”I didnʼt sense any mana fluctuations from you. Neither did you cast any spell…”

He turned his attention toward Adam and saw that the youth had, at some point, clasped his hands and interlocked his fingers. His eyes narrowed and he ventured a guess, ”Rune Magic?”

Adamʼs lips curled up into a smirk. ”When I built this house, I had carved every inch of this place with mystical runes. In essence, I can turn my manor into my own personal domain. Here, I am king!”

He willed it in his mind and the patch of ceiling right above Olin Barett morphed into a giant rock fist and came hammering down on the man. However, he once again effortlessly dodged it.

”I did come across the defensive runes when I entered your manor.” Olinʼs lips curled up into a cocky grin. ”But I didnʼt think your mastery in rune magic was so deep. You really are someone I must kill at all costs.”

”Since weʼre talking about ʼpersonal domainsʼ...” He conjured an ivory skull from his storage artifact. As he infused mana into it, his eyes turned into upside down crescent shapes.

”But before I kill you, Iʼll play with you a little… Show you a taste of what it truly means to go against a necromancer.”

Black miasma started pouring from the sockets of the skull as well as the mouth. The black ink-like substance fell to the ground and spread all over.

”This is an artifact that Cult Leader personally gave me before I left Europa. I was planning to use it during the Grand Magus Tournament, but it doesnʼt hurt to use it a little now. Iʼve also been quite eager to use this fine artifact, you see.”

Grand Magus Tournament! Adamʼs expression turned solemn.

The people from the Brotherhood had speculated that the reason why the Cult was making a move in the Ulier Continent was because they planned to interfere with the Grand Magus Tournament.

And now Olin Barrett had confirmed their speculations!

However, Adam didnʼt have the luxury to ponder about such matters. The black miasma from the eerie skull had covered his entire study. And before he knew it, it had covered his entire manor, enveloping it in a pitch-black curtain.

It was as if Adamʼs entire manor was covered in a moonless night. The darkness was terrifying and filled with the unknown. Everything had turned a shade darker.

Goosebumps appeared all over Adamʼs skin as he saw the whole world turn blacker.

This… This is similar to that spell from the School of Necromancy, Macabre Domain!!

He thought to himself gravely, Although the strength is far weaker than Iʼd seen in the memories, it is undoubtedly a result of that spell!

But how could this be possible… that spell is…

Adamʼs thoughts came to an abrupt halt when Olin Barrettʼs cold voice echoed all around him.

”Rank 3 Spell: Summon Undead!”
