Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 659: Vile Activites

Qamaraʼs eyes widened. She didnʼt doubt Adamʼs words, after all, she was able to directly hear his voice inside her head and feel his emotions.

She was stunned to realize that Viscount Duskfall had the audacity to kill Daneli, who was basically a royal noble of Baja High Forest.

Wasnʼt he afraid that this would spark a war between the Acadian Empire and the Baja High Forest?

But then her eyes narrowed as a possibility dawned on her, What if this is exactly what Umbra Thieves and the Duskfall Family want?!

She was about to speak up, but right at that moment, Adamʼs words rang in her mind. ʼDo not speak. There are eyes and ears everywhere. You must realize that we are already inside the tigerʼs den.ʼ

His words caused her to immediately swallow her words. Her eyes involuntarily scanned the people around her as her heart was gripped by nervousness.

ʼNow I know you must be wondering why I chose to involve you in all of this,ʼ Adam spoke in a somber tone.

ʼI know it is selfish of me, but there is no other person I can depend on at the moment,ʼ he added. ʼThe Flynns have been out of reach for a while now. I can only imagine that theyʼre being occupied by the Umbra Thieves.ʼ

He took a deep breath and then spoke with a resolute tone, ʼI walked in here fully knowing that I would die. But this is something I must do to avenge Daneli.ʼ

Adamʼs eyes flashed with desperation. ʼBut I cannot do it alone,ʼ he added.

ʼI need you, Qamara, I need you!ʼ

Adamʼs words echoed inside her head and she couldnʼt help but fall into a momentary daze. Soon, she snapped out of it when Adam spoke to her again.

ʼBut I know that Iʼve brought you here without you knowing exactly what has been transpiring. I am not entitled to your help and I completely understand that. I shall not force you to help me. Whatever you decide now, I will be content with it.ʼ

The pair stopped dancing and stood still, gazing into each otherʼs eyes. Adam gently caressed Qamaraʼs cheek and mentally transmitted, ʼOnce you remove that mask and reveal your identity, they will know who you are.

ʼThey will not have the courage to lay a finger on the daughter of a councilor. Rest assured, no one will dare to stop you if you leave through that door.ʼ

He lowered his hand and cast one final glance at the elf before turning around, leaving behind his parting words that echoed inside her head.

ʼIʼm sorry, Qamara…ʼ

Qamara glanced at Adamʼs departing back with complicated emotions swirling in her heart. She felt like she had gone through a roller-coaster of emotions.

Adamʼs lies, Daneliʼs death, and Adamʼs resolve to avenge him, all of this culminated in a feeling that left her in a confused state for a few moments.

Then there were the words Adam had said to her: I need you, Qamara, I need you.

No man had ever said those words to her. No man had ever made her feel like how he made her feel. It was a foreign feeling, a strange feeling. She didnʼt know what to make of it.

However, what she did know was that now was not the time to ponder about it. If it was truly as Adam had said then something needed to be done about it.

She didnʼt know if it was her rational side or her infatuated side, but she chose to trust Adam.

Without thinking for another moment, she found her feet moving on their own, and before she knew it she had already caught up to Adam.

She held his hand and muttered in a soft yet steadfast voice, ”Daneli was my friend too, you know.”

Adam glanced at Qamaraʼs hand holding his, then he looked into her eyes and smiled. ʼThank you for trusting me,ʼ he said through Mind Whisper.

As they moved away from the dance floor, Qamara muttered softly, ”I sure hope you have a plan.”

ʼI do.ʼ Adam nodded ever so slightly. ʼFor the rest of the duration, do not utter a word. The more you speak, the more chances you will give the enemy to find faults in you. I will keep my spell activated and update you on whateverʼs happening, okay?ʼ

Qamara gently squeezed Adamʼs hand and nodded.

ʼVery well, letʼs go meet the Duskfalls.ʼ Adam then led her to the Viscount and Viscountess who were standing near the grand staircase to the second floor, conversing with some of the guests.

But Adam knew that thier eyes had never left him and Qamara while they were dancing.

”My friend, looks like you were having a good old time with your partner here, eh?” Altan spoke jovially when he saw Adam approaching him.

”Yes, Viscount Duskfall.” Adam smiled. ”I must admit, the vibe here is immaculate. I canʼt help but have a good time.”

”Oh, please! No need for such formalities. How long have we known each other, eh? Just call me Altan.” The Viscount laughed out loud.

He then guided Adam and Qamara to a portly middle-aged man standing nearby. ”Lord Cornwall, allow me to introduce you to the guest of honor, Magus Adam Constantine. Not only is he a gifted Herbalist, but heʼs also a very talented artist!”

Altan then looked at Adam and introduced, ”This is Sir Levi Cornwall, an exemplary entrepreneur in our fine city. He sits on the Council of Merchants and has quite the influence there. So if you ever need any trade permits, you can always reach out to him.”

Adam pressed his hand over his chest and lightly bowed. ”Lord Cornwall, it is a pleasure to meet you.”

”Hoho! The pleasure is all mine, young magus,” The portly man politely greeted and then started conversing with the youth.

Meanwhile, Qamara stood behind Adam, watching everything unfold with an indifferent look on her face. Right then, Adamʼs words rang inside her mind again through the spell.

ʼDo not react to what Iʼm about to tell you,ʼ he said.

ʼIn his last moments, Daneli was able to let me know that the Umbra Thieves and the Duskfall Family were involved in a large-scale underground human trafficking ring.ʼ

Qamaraʼs pupils constricted in shock at this discovery. One had to know that human trafficking was heavily frowned upon and considered an illegal activity.

Especially after the incident in the capital of the empire, Acryon, involving the vigilante known as the Black Vengence, the royal family of Acadia had tightened their watch against such heinous crimes.

Despite that, the fact that such vile activities were taking place in the underbelly of her home city, Ravenfell, caused Qamara to be shocked and enraged.

ʼDaneli was silenced after he learned what the Duskfall Family and the Umbra Thieves were involved in. Now, I do not know why the Viscount is pretending to know me because, to be honest, I have never even met the man before this,ʼ Adam mentally transmitted while at the same time conversing with other guests.

ʼBut Iʼm here to find out,ʼ he spoke with righteous determination. ʼIʼm here to not only avenge my friendʼs death but also to expose the crimes of these evil bastards!ʼ
