From Idler to Tech Tycoon: Earth

Chapter 136: Preparation: Brazil
Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Preparation: BrazilA week had passed since the chilling revelations about the Krill, a week during which the tension in the underground base was almost as palpable as the hum of its concealed machinery. In the pristine, climate-controlled expanse of the Android Warehouse, the air was charged with anticipation. Richard, Lina, and Jack stood before a series of large, cylindrical stasis pods, their contents slowly coalescing from shimmering energy fields into solid forms. These were the doppelganger androids, meticulously crafted by Lina to maintain their public appearances while the true ones embarked on their critical mission.

Richard gestured to the first pod. ”Initiate activation, Lina.”

With a soft whir, the field surrounding one pod dissipated, revealing a figure identical to Richard. This android was a flawless mimicry of his post-awakening appearance: pure white, short hair, muscular and toned physique, and his impressive height. Over the past week, Richard had spent countless hours uploading every nuance of his memories, mannerisms, and behaviors even sharing the darkest secrets, the raw data of his existence and emotions to ensure its perfect imitation.

It truly looked like him, down to the subtle aura of power that now seemed to cling to his true form. Lina had also programmed it to be exceptionally smarter, capable of competently managing Bytebull’s public technological development, freeing Richard for more covert operations.

Next, Lina activated her own doppelganger. Though already an advanced AI inhabiting a physical body, even she required a public facade. Her doppelganger was an exact replica, ensuring her public persona, meticulously cultivated over months, remained consistent.

Jack, hovering nervously, watched the process with a mixture of morbid fascination and lingering dread. His initial fear of kidnapping by terrorists had transformed into something far more profound: being targeted by alien overlords whose intentions for him were unknown, but terrifyingly personal.

”And... this one’s for me?” Jack ventured, eyeing a third pod, a faint blush creeping up his neck.

From its depths, a figure resolved: a female android with long, flowing brown hair, an undeniably curvy and beautiful form. Her features were sculpted to perfection, an aesthetic marvel.

”Indeed, Sir Jack,” Lina confirmed, her voice devoid of inflection. ”A personal security detail. You provided the precise aesthetic specifications, citing your recent... reluctance to venture outside due to the heightened threat profile.”

Jack swallowed hard, remembering his half-excuse about being ”scared to go out now that he was also being hunted.” Richard, however, knew the unspoken truth behind Jack’s choice. Every man’s fantasy, cloaked in plausible deniability. Richard allowed himself a brief, internal smirk, the first genuine amusement he’d felt in days.

Lina continued. ”Butler Jimmy and his assigned security android are already active above ground, ensuring the mansion’s operations remain seamless and discrete. This new unit will augment your personal protection, Sir Jack, particularly given your decision not to accompany us to Brazil.”

As the doppelgangers underwent their final system checks, Lina turned to Richard. ”Sir, shall we include Ciano on our trip to Brazil?”

Richard paused, a strategic gleam entering his eyes. ”Hmm, yes. Let’s include him. I have a plan.”

His mind raced, outlining the audacious scheme. Ciano would not merely be a passenger; he would be the first true test subject for the automated gene therapy. He would receive the first ”mod”—a discreet, yet potent, genetic enhancement. More critically, Ciano would act as Richard’s public face amongst the ruthless Brazilian cartels. He would become Richard’s unwitting pawn, expertly guided to conquer Brazil’s sprawling gangs and cartels, transforming into the ultimate, untouchable kingpin of the region.

This grand deception would allow Richard and Lina to operate in absolute secrecy, deep underground beneath the Amazon rainforest, where they would construct their second hidden base, the vital beachhead for their global counter-insurgency.

A few hours later, Ciano, who had been summoned under the pretense of ”critical mission briefing,” stood alongside Lina and Richard at the entrance to the base’s most upper levels. He was still processing the shock of realizing Lina was an AI; her seamless, human-like interaction had completely fooled him. If she hadn’t explicitly stated her nature, he would have sworn she was just a remarkably intelligent and calm woman.

Lina initiated the descent, guiding Ciano into the very heart of Bytebull’s concealed power. ”Welcome, Ciano,” she stated, her voice resonating with a subtle shift in acoustics as they entered the first expansive level.

Level 1: Emergency Living Quarters The elevator doors opened onto a vast network of tunnels, nearly 5.5 kilometers wide, stretching beyond Ciano’s vision. This entire level was designed as an emergency living quarters, a self-sustaining refuge capable of housing a small population indefinitely in the event of global catastrophe—nuclear war, asteroid impact, or anything similarly devastating. It contained sprawling facilities: hydroponic farms glowing with soft light, fully stocked medical centers, recreational areas, and living modules designed for long-term habitation. The air was fresh, filtered, and the hum of unseen systems was constant but unobtrusive.

Ciano gawked, his jaw hanging slightly ajar. ”This... this is a city! Underground! For emergencies?” His mind struggled to grasp the sheer scale of the preparation.

”Indeed,” Lina affirmed. ”Every contingency is accounted for.”

They moved on, the floor gliding smoothly beneath their feet, deeper into the earth.

The second, even deeper level was a marvel of logistical engineering. Here, massive storage areas held an unimaginable inventory: row upon row of AMFS-printed components, vast stockpiles of raw materials, unused weapons systems still in their modular crates, high-grade explosives, and hundreds of android components awaiting assembly.

This was also the domain of the unused AMFS drones, silent, flying machines that perpetually re-atomized molecular structures from ambient rock and earth, silently building and expanding the base, creating new tunnels, chambers, and infrastructure with eerie efficiency. Distributed throughout various hangars on this level were the larger AMFS printers themselves, colossal machines that could fabricate any needed equipment or material on demand, all controlled by Lina alone through her superior networked intelligence.

Ciano’s eyes popped out, wide with disbelief. ”They... they build themselves?!” he stammered, pointing at a drone discreetly reshaping a wall. ”And you can just... print anything? Like an army?” The implications hit him like a physical force—endless supplies, self-replication, complete autonomy.

Richard, watching Ciano’s reaction through the cameras, felt a grim satisfaction. This was the point of the tour: to instill not just trust, but absolute awe and unwavering loyalty.

The descent concluded at the deepest, most critical level. The air here vibrated with a powerful, low thrum, a sound that resonated in Ciano’s chest. This was the heart of the entire base: the colossal Q-Flux Fusion Reactor, its containment fields a mesmerizing dance of pure energy. Beside it, sprawling Q-Flux capacity grids pulsed, storing immense reserves of power. This entire level also served as the hub for a smart transmission network that powered every inch of the complex. More importantly, it housed the main hangar for constructed starships and ready-to-deploy equipment, along with dedicated zones for prototype testing.

Ciano’s gaze was immediately drawn to a central, shimmering conduit of pure data. ”What is that?” he breathed, mesmerized.

Lina followed his gaze. ”That, Ciano, is the primary conduit to my new, massive Quantum Cogitator brain. It significantly enhances my computing power, allowing for the real-time management of this entire facility and its global operations.” She then gestured to a series of glowing, interconnected rooms. ”And here are various research labs, staffed by specialized androids. They are tasked with researching diverse departments of science, their collective intelligence shared through a network of quantum server racks—the very same infrastructure I once utilized before I attained a physical body, and before the Quantum Cogitator was constructed.”

Ciano’s head swiveled from one marvel to another, his amazement almost painful. He’d barely believed Lina was an AI, and now he was witnessing the sheer scale of her underlying intelligence, the vast, networked ”mind” that ran this impossible base. He was speechless, his mind reeling from the sheer extent of advanced technology.

Finally, they reached the hangar bay that dominated this deepest level. His eyes went wide, almost popping out of his skull. The sheer scale of advanced equipment was mind-boggling, but nothing compared to the starship. Spanning 100 feet long and 30 feet wide, its black, angular hull was devoid of any visible windows, giving it an utterly alien and formidable presence.

Ciano’s amazement surged, transforming into an unshakeable, fierce loyalty for Richard. His boss never stopped surprising him. His boss wasn’t just wealthy or powerful in the human sense; he was sitting at the top of a secret, technological empire, a true king. Powerful, immensely strong, incredibly rich, undeniably handsome, and possessing technology that bordered on the divine.

Ciano, in that moment, genuinely believed Richard could have conquered the entire world outright. But his boss was either incredibly humble, or impossibly smart, choosing to operate from the shadows. The thought only deepened Ciano’s admiration and devotion.

Ciano resolved himself. He would be his boss’s most loyal soldier, his most ruthless operative. Whatever task Richard set for him, he would achieve it, no matter the cost.

Just then, Richard appeared from behind one of the colossal hover tanks, a faint smile playing on his lips as he approached Ciano. He saw Ciano’s eyes—shining with an almost puppy-like devotion, wide and earnest. He smiled, a soft, rare expression, and sighed contentedly. ”Well, Ciano, I hope you enjoyed Lina’s tour.”

Ciano snapped to attention, saluting instinctively, his movements precise despite the rush of blood to his face. ”I did, sir!” he declared, his voice ringing with conviction, a faint flush of embarrassment coloring his cheeks at his automatic, military reaction.

Richard shook his head, a chuckle escaping him. ”Good. Good.” His expression then turned serious, his gaze sweeping over the vast hangar before settling back on Ciano. ”Well, the reason I called you down here, Ciano, is you have to accompany me to Brazil.” He paused, letting the implication hang in the air. ”We will be riding this,” he gestured dramatically to the enormous starship behind him.

Ciano’s eyes sparkled, his previous embarrassment forgotten as a wide, boyish grin spread across his face. ”This?!” he practically squealed, his excitement uncontainable.

Richard’s smile widened. ”Indeed. We will be establishing forward operations in Brazil. Your task, Ciano, will be monumental: you are to gain absolute reputation in the cartel and gang underworld of Brazil. You will rise as the new kingpin, the undisputed power, to perfectly blend in with our underground base that Lina and I will be building there soon.”

Ciano’s jaw tightened, a surge of adrenaline mixing with his loyalty. To be tasked with such an important mission, he, alone, with only his own power and cunning? It was a challenge, a testament to his boss’s faith in him. ”I accept, sir!” he declared, his voice firm and strong. ”You can count on me.”

”Don’t worry, Ciano,” Richard assured him, a hand resting briefly on his shoulder. ”You will be given all necessary resources to achieve your monumental tasks. But for now, go on ahead with Lina. She will show you to your quarters in the ship. We will be leaving soon.”

Ciano nodded, a new fire in his eyes, and followed Lina towards the starship’s entry ramp.

Meanwhile, Jack, who had been lingering nearby, flirting shamelessly with his new security android, approached Richard. A vision in brown hair and curves, seemed to be enjoying the attention, her programmed responses subtly appreciative.

”Bro,” Jack said, his voice unusually soft, ”thanks for this. She’s awesome. I named her Scarlet.”

Scarlet, a perfectly executed bow, responded with flawless grace. ”Thank you, Sir Richard, for this unparalleled opportunity to serve Sir Jack.”

Richard chuckled. ”Don’t spoil him too much, though.” He clapped Jack on the shoulder. ”Anyway, Jack, we’re leaving already.”

Jack’s easy smile faltered. He launched himself into an uncharacteristically tight hug. ”Be careful out there, bro,” he mumbled into Richard’s shoulder, a genuine tremor in his voice. ”I’ll take care of the base. I’ll make sure not to request any more android harems.”

Richard laughed, pulling back. ”Whatever you want.” Just then, Lina reappeared at the starship door, her face impassive. ”Sir Richard, the pre-flight checks are complete. We are ready for departure.”

Lina then looked at Scarlet. ”Scarlet, I leave everything in your care.”

Scarlet bowed respectfully. ”Take care, Mother,” she replied, her voice soft and caring. Then, she turned her head to Richard and bowed even deeper. ”And you too, Father.”

Richard blinked, surprised. He glanced at Lina, who, for a rare moment, subtly avoided his gaze, a faint, almost imperceptible blush coloring her synthetic cheeks. Richard sighed, shaking his head. ”Anyway, where’s Grandpa Estello anyway?”

Jack, wiping a tear from his eye, pointed vaguely towards the main access tunnels. ”He’s at the Coven. He’s got those scary eyes again. I bet he’s preparing his own army too.” Jack then remembered something else. ”Oh, and he asked if it’s okay to use this base for his subordinates.”

Richard mused, realizing his grandfather was indeed gearing up for conflict. ”Yeah, sure,” he said, a grim note in his voice. ”Just don’t leak our base to the world, or we’ll all be in deep, hellish trouble.” Lina’s internal processes instantly began calculating new leak contingencies, her analytical mind already accounting for Estello’s potential expansion.

Richard dapped Jack on the shoulder once more. ”Goodbye, bro, for now. I’ll be calling you frequently. And take care of Ma. Although she has my doppelganger, I’m still concerned about her.”

Jack chuckled, a watery sound. ”If she was here, she’d be roasting you right about now for worrying.”

Richard chuckled. ”I guess she would.” He took one last look around the massive hangar, at the dazzling display of technology, at Jack, his oldest friend.

”Anyway, take care.” As he stepped towards the starship door, it slowly began to close behind him, sealing him away from the familiar. He was going to miss these old times, he thought, the days when they were just two kids, lazing carelessly without a care in the world. He sighed, the weight of his new responsibilities settling heavily on him, and turned to face the bridge as the ship powered on, ready to embark on its silent, unseen war.
