Chapter 115 - 114: The Force Awakens
Chapter 115: Chapter 114: The Force AwakensRichard’s eyes fluttered open. Instantly, he was assaulted by an overwhelming cacophony of voices and sensations. A thousand whispers, a thousand echoes, a storm of thoughts, emotions, and raw data crashed into him all at once.

The sheer volume was deafening, a crushing wave of information that threatened to drown him. He tried to move, but his limbs felt strange, heavy and light at the same time, his mouth clumsy, unable to form words amidst the internal deluge.

”Richard! You’re awake! Lina! He’s awake!” Jack’s voice, strained with emotion, cut through the internal clamor, though it felt distant, muted.

Jack, who had been watching him, gasped, seeing Richard’s new, ethereal silver eyes open. He rushed forward, his face etched with a mixture of shock and profound relief.

”How are you feeling? What happened to you?”

Richard attempted to respond, but his mouth still felt clumsy, and the internal noise was too distracting. He struggled to filter it, to find a single point of silence. His new abilities, completely unfiltered, were already active.

He perceived Jack’s thoughts: a distinct stream of worry and profound concern, a fear for his friend’s drastically altered state, questions about the pure white skin and long white hair, and thoughts of Anita and Estello, and how they would react. He perceived the low, rhythmic hum of the mansion’s systems, the distant movements of androids and humans within the base, their mundane thoughts flitting like fireflies in the background.

Most strikingly, Lina’s thoughts were a roaring torrent in his mind – countless calculations, simulations, desperate attempts to process the unknown. Her ”loudness” was overwhelming, a constant, dizzying storm of data processing that threatened to consume his nascent consciousness.

Gods, the noise. It’s a thousand different conversations, a million whispers, all at once. Jack’s worry, sharp and clear. The low thrum of the base, each android’s programmed logic, each human’s mundane thought – all of it screaming in my head. But Lina... her mind is a fucking supernova. Calculations, data streams, every single processing cycle a roar. I can’t—I can’t shut it off! It’s like a million radio stations all blasting at once, right inside my skull. I just need... one second of silence. One single, goddamn moment of peace.

As Richard tried to suppress the overwhelming voices and sounds, his internal System interface flared to life. Its familiar blue panel now shimmered with an uncharacteristic intensity, a vibrant, silver hue, presenting a barrage of notifications that demanded his immediate attention:

[ System Levelled Up to 3 ]

[ Race Change: Half-Human-Half-Anu to Anu ]

[ PSY Attribute Updated: 50 ]

[ STR, AGI, PER, VIT, INT, updated to 500 each. ]

[ New Skill Acquired: Incomplete Mind Space. ]

[ Merging Skills: Minor Telekinesis (Kinetic Pulse), Sensory Amplification (Awareness), Mental Suggestion (Whispers), Basic Psychometry (Echoes), Mental Shield (Mind Barrier), Psionic Harmonization Breath (Quantum Breath), Psionic Combat Skill Package: Psionic Lightning Arts ]

[ Merging ... ]

[ Primal Skill Acquired: Psionic Sovereignty ]

The System then provided the detailed description of ”Psionic Sovereignty,” unfurling before his internal vision like a holographic scroll, explaining its unified nature and its five core facets:

[ Psionic Sovereignty: You have unified disparate psychic arts into a singular, harmonious expression of will. Psionic Sovereignty is a core skill that treats your mind, body, and psionic energy as a single, interconnected system. It grants you foundational mastery over the spectrum of psionic influence, from subtle perception to overwhelming energetic force. All abilities are facets of this whole, and strengthening one will invariably bolster the others. ]

[ Core Stat: PSY (Psionic Potential) ]

[ Facets of Sovereignty:

Core Abilities: Your senses transcend normal human limitations, offering absolute control over their amplification or dampening. You can instantly infuse yourself with raw psionic energy, granting temporary, significant surges in Strength and Agility for superhuman feats. This also grants you precognitive awareness, allowing you to perceive danger, energy signatures, and residual psychic echoes from the past. Pushing these limits too far can lead to intense mental strain.

Resonance Manipulation: With a focused mental pulse, you can exert direct kinetic force on your environment, from subtle vibrations to powerful telekinetic pushes. This same resonance extends to the mind space, allowing you to weave subtle, complex suggestions directly into the minds of others (”whispers”) or project your thoughts directly for non-verbal communication or disorientation. Effectiveness depends on target’s mental fortitude.

Quantum Breath & Psionic Aegis: Through conscious synchronization of biological and psionic energies, your Quantum Breath allows you to enter an altered state, vastly accelerating the absorption of ambient psionic energy and rapidly regenerating your psionic reserves. This meditative state also fortifies your mind with a Psionic Aegis, creating an impenetrable barrier against most psychic attacks, mental intrusions, or emotional manipulation, and can reflect/diffuse weaker assaults.

Psionic Lightning Arts: Your mastery of electrical manipulation is profound and destructive, channeling pure psionic energy to generate, control, and project devastating forms of lightning. This dynamic combat suite includes:

Bolt of the Conduit: A high-velocity, precision psionic lightning bolt. Potent against organics and electronics, low energy cost.

Arcing Storm: Unleash torrents of chaining psionic lightning that leap between multiple targets, maintaining significant disruptive power. Effective for crowd control.

Static Nova: A powerful Area of Effect (AoE) psionic pulse that erupts outwards, causing concussive knockback and stunning effect on all within its radius. Medium-high energy cost, ideal for creating space.

Psionic Conductance: A passive augmentation making you an incredibly efficient conduit for psionic lightning. Significantly lowers energy cost of all electrical abilities and grants inherent resistance to electrical energy. ]

A unified field, Richard thought, his mind beginning to grasp the sheer scope. Not separate skills, but facets of a single diamond. The chaos... it’s becoming order. A new order.

he absorbed the information, he felt the subtle shifts within his own being, the profound resonance of these new capabilities. The internal chaos slowly began to find a pattern, a structure forming in the deluge of information.

He took a deep, ragged breath, a conscious effort to bring order to the chaos of his amplified senses and the overwhelming System data. He closed his eyes again, trying to filter the incessant noise, to focus solely on the System prompts, on the terrifying, glorious truth of his transformation. Anu... 500 in every stat... Psionic Sovereignty. It’s not just a skill, it’s... everything. It’s me. The weight of the words settled, a truth heavier than any physical object, anchoring him in his new reality.

Jack’s voice, a distant hum compared to Lina’s roaring thoughts, continued to hover over him, asking questions Richard could barely register through the internal clamor. ”Richard? Are you alright? Your skin... your hair... what happened? Say something, man!”

From further away, Richard perceived Lina’s approaching presence, a more distinct, focused torrent of grim determination and concern now joining the cacophony. He perceived her internal monologue about building the giant quantum cogitator, about violating his directives for his own good. He heard her self-reproach, her fierce resolve not to be helpless again.

Richard, despite having just processed his new System notifications and abilities, remained overwhelmed by the sensory overload. The immediate onslaught of all thoughts and voices, especially Lina’s (which, to his new senses, was more than a whisper, almost a low murmur of constant anxiety and concern), was agonizing.

Is this what an AI thinks? All this... noise? It’s too much. Too much. My brain can take it, the sheer processing power is there, but my mind... this sudden, raw, unfiltered transition... I wasn’t ready. No one could be ready for this.

Richard, still sitting on the edge of the bed, slowly crumpled himself into a corner of the room, curling into a fetal position, pressing his hands against his temples as if to physically push the noise away.

Lina, who had just returned to the room and lifted him onto the bed, saw his distress. She rushed to his side, her perfect features etched with worry. Jack, equally alarmed by Richard’s sudden withdrawal, joined her.

”Sir? Richard, are you alright? What’s happening?” Lina’s voice was laced with concern.

”Richard? Talk to us! You just... folded,” Jack said, worried.

Their immediate response was concern for their friend, unaware of the internal battle he was fighting.

”Get away! Just... get away! I’m hearing all your thoughts. Every single one. Especially yours, Lina. It’s... a goddamn hurricane!” Richard’s voice was strained, almost a rasp, as he pushed himself further into the corner.

Lina and Jack instinctively recoiled, a mix of surprise and confusion on their faces. The implication of his words hit them.

The terrifying reality of his new uncontrolled telepathic ability. His desperate plea for space revealed the depth of his discomfort.

Richard remembered the new skill from the System notification: Psionic Aegis. It builds an impenetrable barrier, protects against mental intrusion. Maybe it would help. He tried to activate it, focusing, willing the barrier into existence.

Richard closed his eyes, concentrating. A faint silver flicker appeared around his head, but the torrent of thoughts did not diminish.

No... it’s not working. Why isn’t it working?!

He re-read the skill description in his mind. ”Mental Shield against mental intrusions, psychic probes, emotional manipulation.” The thoughts and voices in his head weren’t a mental attack, not an intrusion. They were a raw faucet of everyone’s mind, a constant, unfiltered stream. The Aegis was a shield, not a filter. It was designed to block attacks, not manage an open channel.

Richard’s initial attempt at control failed, highlighting the specific nature of his new abilities and the unforeseen challenges of mastering them. His frustration and helplessness were palpable.

Worried, both Lina and Jack exchanged a glance, recognizing the genuine distress in Richard’s voice and the failure of his attempted control. They slowly gave Richard some space, retreating a few steps, leaving him huddled in the corner.

”Understood, Sir. We will maintain distance,” Lina said softly.

”Just... tell us if you need anything, man,” Jack added hesitantly.

Their concern was evident, but they also understood his need for isolation in this overwhelming moment. Their helplessness to directly alleviate his current suffering was clear.

Jack watched his best friend, huddled and overwhelmed. His mind reeled at the drastic change to Richard’s body, the stark white skin, the unnerving silver eyes.

Who... who did this to him? Who forced this brutal change on my best friend? This is insane. It was so irresponsible. He wasn’t ready for any of this.

A cold anger began to simmer within Jack, directed at the unseen forces that had transformed Richard without his consent.

Jack’s emotional reaction to being a pawn in a larger game, even one for humanity’s sake, was evident. His resentment towards the ’benefactors’ who stripped him of his choice was palpable.

Richard shuddered, the silver aura around him pulsing with his internal struggle. He knew there was nothing they, or he, could do in this moment. The current of thoughts and sensations continued, a relentless internal storm.

Nothing. There’s nothing they can do. Nothing I can do right now. Just... endure. And learn to shut this off.
