From Idler to Tech Tycoon: Earth

Chapter 133: Hangar Bay
Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Hangar BayThe silence in Richard’s office was heavy, broken only by the distant hum of the facility and Jack’s ragged breathing. The revelations Lina had delivered—the ancient Krill parasitic nature, their galactic empire, the hidden ’harvest leaders’ manipulating world powers, and the chilling, personal threat to their lives—had shattered Jack’s casual perception of danger. He paced restlessly, occasionally running a hand through his hair.

”Alien overlords,” Jack muttered, more to himself than anyone else, his eyes wide and fixed on nothing. ”They’re coming for us. Not for ransom, not for money... for... for our blood. Or worse. What if they lay eggs in our stomachs, like in that movie? The Predator?” He shuddered, a full-body tremor. ”I’m not going out. Not anymore. Not with those... things out there. Not with them knowing us.” The carefree gamer was gone, replaced by a man genuinely terrified.

Estello, though outwardly calmer, had a grim set to his jaw. He understood the stakes far better than Jack. His own world of corporate intrigue and political chess seemed utterly insignificant against an interstellar empire that had harvested humanity for millennia. His gaze drifted to Richard, a silent question in his eyes: What now?

Richard stood by the observation console, his fury a palpable aura, though still contained. The light in his silver eyes flickered, barely restrained, a visible manifestation of the power thrumming beneath his skin. He didn’t acknowledge Jack’s panicked questions, his mind already miles ahead, processing countermeasures, defensive strategies, offensive gambits. The Krill’s operation to kidnap them meant time was no longer a luxury; it was a rapidly dwindling commodity.

”Lina,” Richard commanded, his voice low, a razor’s edge beneath its calm. ”Prepare our trip to Brazil. We’re leaving next week. Activate our doppelgangers immediately. We’re not waiting for the public launch. I’m not sure when their operations are set to begin. We need a starting point. We need to be proactive.”

Lina, ever the paragon of calm efficiency, simply nodded. ”Understood, Sir Richard. Everything has already been prepared to protocol specifications. Please, follow me.” Without another word, she turned and walked towards a wide, previously unnoticed hallway just beyond the reactor room’s secure entrance.

Jack, ever the perceptive one despite his fear, saw the determined set of Richard’s shoulders, saw Lina’s uncharacteristic promptness. He exchanged a quick, bewildered glance with Estello, then scrambled to follow, unwilling to be left behind in the office with just the crushing weight of the new reality. Estello watched them go, remaining in the office, his brow furrowed in deep thought. He had his own plans to formulate, his own networks to leverage in this terrifying new world.

The hallway Lina led them down was long, pristine, and faintly glowing with ambient light. It terminated at another massive set of reinforced doors, far larger than any they had encountered so far in the base. With a soft hydraulic sigh, they parted, revealing a cavernous hangar that stretched beyond their immediate perception, illuminated by strategically placed floodlights that pierced the engineered gloom.

Richard stepped in, then stopped dead. His jaw, still clenched with fury, loosened. His eyes, now wide with undisguised awe, scanned the colossal space. Lined in disciplined rows across the hangar floor were scores of advanced vehicles and armaments, far beyond anything the public would ever conceive. Vasimr fighter jets, their sleek lines hinting at incredible speeds, stood poised. Hover tanks, their menacing turrets silent, floated a few feet above the ground. Agile hover bikes, sleek and deadly, waited beside them. Standard power armors, formidable in their own right, were dwarfed by the sheer variety of advanced equipment.

Jack, rushing in behind Richard, stopped abruptly, a gasp ripping from his throat. The fear that had gripped him moments before vanished, replaced by an explosive, almost manic glee. ”Holy crap!” he shrieked, his voice cracking with unfiltered wonder. He sprinted past the familiar Vasimr jets, hardly registering the sight of standard power armors—which were, in truth, already cutting-edge, but paled compared to his own Musashi Mark 1. His eyes fixed on the hover tanks, the hover bikes, the sheer breadth of the arsenal. ”This is... this is amazing! Praise the Machine God! Lina, you built all this?! This is better than any game!” He bounced on the balls of his feet, overwhelmed by the sheer, technological might.

But even Jack’s boundless enthusiasm was momentarily silenced by the sight dominating the far end of the hangar. Docked in the central bay, angled slightly towards them, was a starship. It was unlike anything Richard had ever seen. Large, angular, and incredibly sleek, it stretched for at least 100 feet, its black hull absorbing the light. Striking lime green streaks sliced across its surface, glowing faintly, hinting at concealed power. There were no visible windows, no obvious weapons emplacements, just a seamless, unbroken skin. Yet, it exuded a predatory grace, a silent promise of unparalleled capability. On its hull, etched with elegant precision, was a name: CRVT - Richie.

Richard simply stared, speechless. He knew Lina was brilliant, capable of impossibilities, but this... this was beyond his expectations. The sheer scale, the elegance, the unspoken power of it. He was sure she had been holding back, keeping this trump card hidden until the perfect moment.

Lina stepped forward, a rare, subtle smile gracing her perfect features, a flicker of genuine pride in her eyes. ”I present to you, Sir Richard,” she said, her voice clear and resonant in the vast hangar, ”the CRVT - Richie.”

She gestured towards the ship, and in a synchronized display, faint, almost invisible seams along its hull briefly glowed with lime green light, outlining hidden ports and panels. A holographic schematic of the ship shimmered into existence beside Lina, detailing its concealed power.

”The CRVT - Richie, or Covert Reconnaissance and Variable Threat Corvette - Richie,” Lina began, her tone shifting into a formal, technical briefing, ”embodies the pinnacle of stealth and layered offense. From a distance, it appears as an unremarkable, sleek, metallic hull, utterly devoid of any overt aggressive intent. There are no visible weapons mounts, no tell-tale thruster plumes, and its ’windows’ are merely advanced optical arrays disguised as standard viewports. Yet, beneath this innocent facade lies a compact, warp-capable powerhouse engineered for rapid deployment, decisive engagement, and unparalleled information gathering.”

Richard’s mind began to absorb the information as Lina continued, visualizing each component, each system described.

”Our core design philosophy is deception and overkill. The Richie’s smooth, unbroken hull isn’t just aesthetic; it’s a signature of its advanced stealth and cloak systems, designed to minimize radar, lidar, and thermal signatures. Its hidden weaponry isn’t just about surprise; it’s about maintaining a non-threatening profile until the precise moment of engagement. The lack of traditional windows is a testament to its reliance on advanced sensor suites and its fully automated internal systems, requiring no direct visual input from its minimal crew.”

Lina then detailed the ship’s intricate systems:

I. Defensive & Utility Systems:

Reverse Gravitic Shield (RGS): ”This isn’t a traditional energy shield, Sir Richard. It’s a localized gravitational manipulation field. Instead of deflecting energy, it actively shifts the spacetime around the hull, causing incoming projectiles—physical or energy-based—to subtly deviate from their trajectory or lose significant kinetic energy as they pass through warped space. This makes it incredibly difficult to score a direct hit.”

Stealth & Cloak Systems: ”We’ve integrated an advanced metamaterial hull, composed of programmable materials that absorb or redirect active sensor pings across multiple spectra. This works in conjunction with active thermal dampening, an internal system that constantly dissipates heat signatures, ensuring the Richie remains cold to infrared and thermal detection. Complementing this is the Chameleon Cloak, an advanced optical camouflage system that uses dynamic light-bending and projection to seamlessly blend the ship with its background, rendering it virtually invisible to the naked eye and passive optical sensors.”

Fusion Core: ”A highly efficient, compact Q-Flux Fusion Reactor Core provides the immense power required for all the Richie’s advanced systems, weapons, and its warp drive, ensuring extended operational endurance without external refueling.”

Automated Internal Systems: ”From life support and navigation to damage control and resource management, the Richie is designed for autonomous operation. A minimal crew oversees operations, relying on sophisticated AI for real-time data analysis and system management. This reduces crew size, increasing stealth effectiveness and minimizing human risk.”

II. Offensive & Interdiction Systems (Hidden & Integrated):

Plasma Minigun Point Defense (PPD): ”Numerous concealed ports along the hull can rapidly deploy multi-barreled plasma miniguns. These fire superheated bolts of ionized gas at extremely high rates, forming an impenetrable screen against missiles, fighters, or incoming debris. Their rapid-fire nature is ideal for close-in, last-ditch defense.”

Concealed Railguns: ”Retractable heavy weapon emplacements house electromagnetic railguns. These propel solid slugs at hypersonic velocities, delivering devastating kinetic impact to larger targets like capital ship sub-systems or hardened installations. The barrels extend only milliseconds before firing and retract immediately.”

Torpedo Launchers: ”Hidden vertical launch systems deploy a salvo of photon or anti-matter torpedoes. These high-yield warheads are devastating against larger vessels, designed to bypass energy shields through phase-shifting or overwhelming them with sheer destructive power.”

Missile Interceptors: ”Dedicated anti-missile defense systems, distinct from the plasma miniguns. These deploy a swarm of small, highly agile interceptor drones, each equipped with its own mini-guidance system and fragmentation warhead, designed to engage and neutralize incoming missile threats at range.”

III. Command, Control & Intelligence:

Advanced Scanners and Sensors: ”A full suite of integrated, multi-spectral sensors provides unparalleled situational awareness without broadcasting the Richie’s presence. This includes Passive Gravimetric Sensors for detecting minute shifts in local gravity to identify cloaked vessels or unusual mass concentrations; Quantum Entanglement Comms for encrypted, instantaneous communication over vast distances, resistant to jamming; and Hyper-Spectral Imaging for analyzing light across an incredibly broad spectrum to identify material compositions and hidden installations.”

Neural Net Processing: ”An integrated AI constantly sifts through sensor data, identifying patterns, anomalies, and potential threats with human-like intuition but vastly superior speed.”

Compact Science Lab: ”Despite its combat focus, the Richie features a highly efficient, compact onboard science laboratory. This allows for immediate analysis of encountered phenomena, captured data, and exotic materials, providing real-time intelligence for complex spec-ops missions. It’s equipped with advanced analytical instruments, biological containment, and quantum simulation capabilities.”
