Earth's Greatest Magus

2287  Loss

[Hexagram of Heaven and Earth].

The battlefield erupted into a maelstrom of elemental fury. Fire blazed, metal clashed, the earth quaked, plants surged, water crashed, ice crackled, the wind howled, and lightning struck with relentless force. The eight elements, summoned by Fuxi’s final spell, roared to life, each one transforming into a towering elemental creature. The attacker, caught off guard by the sudden onslaught, found himself besieged by these powerful manifestations of nature’s wrath.

“What formation is this!!?!”

Chaos engulfed the cave as the elemental beings closed in on the assailant.

Emery’s consciousness, still tethered to the memory, was jolted by a sudden shift. To his astonishment, he felt himself being pulled away from Fuxi’s perspective. His awareness soared, leaving the sage’s dying body and slipping into Damo’s lifeless form, hidden on the cave floor.

From this new vantage point, Emery witnessed the sheer might of Fuxi’s spell. The cosmos grand magus, despite his overwhelming power, was forced onto the defensive, battered by the relentless assault of the elemental creatures.

For a fleeting moment, it seemed as though Fuxi’s final stand might succeed. The once-dominant attacker was pushed to the brink, his defenses crumbling under the onslaught. But as the battle raged on, Emery could sense the inevitable.

Fuxi’s soul, drained of its last reserves of strength, began to fade.

The Eastern Sage, defiance until the very end, finally fell before Emery’s eyes, his soul dissipating into the ether, leaving behind nothing but a faint echo of his final resolve.

Unfortunately, Fuxi’s final attempt to protect Damo did not go unnoticed. The attacker, sensing the remnants of the sage’s will lingering within the young monk, advanced with deadly intent.

Just as he was about to obliterate the last vestiges of Fuxi’s spirit, the ground beneath them trembled violently. It was as if the entire forest had suddenly awakened, driven by some ancient force.

Roots burst from the earth, wrapping themselves around Damo’s body in a protective cocoon. The trees bent and swayed, their branches reaching down as if to shield him from harm. The ground itself seemed to come alive, pulling Damo downwards, deep into the safety of the earth.

As the memory reached its conclusion, Emery felt a dramatic shift within Damo’s soul.

The once-fractured and fragile essence began to heal, mending the deep scars of trauma. But more than just healing, a powerful surge of spirit energy flooded into the young monk, filling the void left by his broken memories.

The energy was overwhelming, pushing Damo’s very essence to the brink, and then, with a sudden burst, it propelled him through the barrier into the Magus realm.

Emery and Klea watched in awe as they saw the presence of all eight elements swirling within Damo’s newly formed magus core. The realization struck them both—Damo had received Fuxi’s final inheritance, a gift that restored him and elevated his power to extraordinary heights.

The process was long and arduous, taking hours before Damo finally stirred.

When he awoke, his eyes were filled with the clarity of full memory. As the weight of what had happened settled in, tears began to fall down his cheeks, a silent tribute to the sacrifice of the Eastern Sage.

Days passed, and Damo’s health gradually improved. The [Soul Walking] treatment not only facilitated his recovery but also provided Emery with valuable insights into the attacker’s identity. The golden marking on the attacker’s forehead and the extraordinary power wielded were significant clues. However, despite these details’ illumination, they fell short of concrete evidence that the Magus Alliance would accept or act upon.

In addition to revealing the attacker’s identity, the Soul Walking treatment confirmed the full extent of the tragedy: Fuxi’s death. The harsh reality of the sage’s demise struck deeply, particularly affecting Naya, Fuxi’s adopted daughter.

The female hybrid was overwhelmed with grief, her tears seeming endless as she mourned the only parent she had ever known. Naya’s sorrow was not just the loss of a guardian but the loss of the man who had saved her from utter despair. Fuxi had rescued her from the destruction of her clan when she was just a small child, only five years old, and had raised her with unwavering care for the past fifty years. He had been everything to her; now, without him, her world felt unbearably empty.

Ashaka, Klea, and Chumo, who had spent years learning under Fuxi’s guidance, shared in the grief. The loss of the sage was not just personal; it was the loss of a mentor and a revered figure.

To honor his memory, they all agreed to bury his body and create a memorial in his name. The chosen place for this tribute was the home Fuxi had built in the serene eastern mountains, a tranquil area beneath an ancient tree, right beside a peaceful lake where he often sat to fish. It was a place that held special meaning to the sage.

Around two dozen people gathered to pay their respects, a reflection of how few truly knew the sage who often preferred solitude.

Marc Anthony, accompanied by Octavius, the leader of the Roman Empire, made a solemn appearance. From Brittania, Glita and Gwyneth came to honor the sage. Barndt and two Valkyries from the Vanir also attended, representing their people.

Thrax arrived with two of the five Izta widows, making the journey from Terra City to honor Fuxi’s memory. Tessa accompanied them, her presence a quiet but sincere expression of condolence. From the academy, four young acolytes—Ha Ron, KingRig, Titus, and Armenius—returned specifically for the ceremony. Among the attendees was Shinta, who had traveled to Earth for the first time.

Ashaka stepped forward to deliver the final tribute. His voice, steady but filled with emotion, carried across the gathering.

“My master, Fuxi, has lived for over 2,000 years. He was a warrior, a scholar, a teacher, a father, and a sage. He was the best among us.” Ashaka paused, his gaze drifting to the serene lake saying. “Master, I wish you a reincarnation that freed you from pain and suffering.”

The ceremony was marked by a solemn and respectful air as each person paid their last respects to the Eastern Sage, the last of the first-generation acolytes.

A piercing, heart-wrenching cry from Naya shattered the stillness, her anguished wail echoing across the landscape, in contrast, Damo stood silent through the whole process.

Emery and the others, their hearts heavy with sorrow and anger, clenched their fists in resolve. They vowed to seek justice for their beloved senior.
