Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1225: When Mighty Meets Mightier! (1)

The moment the Undead Lich King detected something amiss, Jacob had completely vanished, and it wasn’t just some teleportation or spatial movement since the former could’ve easily detected something like that.

But he couldn’t because Jacob’s entire presence simply disappeared, leaving no aura or soul fluctuation, as if he had turned into nothingness.

Even when the Undead Lich King released its monstrous soul sense, he found absolutely nothing.

A trace of unease surfaced within him, but he quickly dismissed that ridiculous notion and thought of the most appropriate reason.

‘Did he escape?’

But the moment that thought emerged, the Undead Lich King suddenly felt something impossible, something no existence besides his master had ever made him feel before…

A true sense of impending death!

The Undead Lich King’s soul-fire violently contracted, and without hesitation, he thrust forward his hand, and in that instant, a ghostly staff appeared in his grip!

It was an ancient staff forged from an unknown blackened metal and fossilized bone. Its shaft twisted like intertwined spinal columns while dark silver runes crawled endlessly across its surface like living insects.

At the top floated a fractured skull encased within rotating eclipse rings, and within its hollow eyes burned compressed death essence.

The instant the staff appeared, a multilayered barrier erupted around the Undead Lich King.

‘BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!’

A deafening explosion, as if the sky itself had shattered, and the multilayered barrier instantly cracked.

The flames in Undead Lich King’s eyes jumped erratically as disbelief with a hint of terror flickered in them because, right in front of him, only an inch away from his skull, was a skeletal fist wrapped in pitch-black emptiness.

The fist radiated no aura or law fluctuations, yet the barrier protecting the Undead Lich King was already on the verge of collapse. The owner of that fist was naturally Jacob.

For the first time in countless years, a chill ran down the Undead Lich King’s spine because if that barrier had formed even a fraction slower, his head would’ve already been obliterated.

Furthermore, what made Undead Lich King even more fearful wasn’t Jacob almost blowing off his head, but the latter almost breaking the multilayered barrier put by the ancient staff in his hand.

The reason was simple. Not only was the staff a Mythical Rank Artifact known as the Staff of Sky Downfall, but any spell cast through it would instantly reach the Mythical Rank.

That’s why the Undead Lich King was so shocked upon seeing Jacob almost successfully destroying the barrier, which should be like an impossibly thick wall to overcome for anyone in the Legendary Plains.

The Undead Lich King had never thought that, after that annoying pest, Myth of Reverend, there would be an even more terrifying existence hidden within the Legendary Plains.

After the Myth of Reverend, despite exchanging blows with the Undead Lich King, had fled in a sorry state, especially since the former had greatly enraged the latter’s master because the Myth of Reverend was as Faithful!

But this mysterious ‘Dark Being’ in front of him was completely different because the former didn’t even seem to be serious, and yet he had almost put the Undead Lich King in a sorry state.

On the other hand, behind the hood, Jacob’s ghostly flaming eyes remained utterly emotionless except for the faintest flicker of surprise as if astounded that the punch imbued with the Void Law that had reached an extremely high proficiency hadn’t landed.

After experiencing the life of a Nightmare Eater within Whiteness’s dreamscape for a few decades, even though Jacob hadn’t learned any significant secrets about Whiteness’s secrets except for the Aurora Light, the Void Law within Jacob had become extremely profound to the point that even he didn’t know where he stood right now.

Although Jacob hadn’t experienced the life of the Void Mantis beyond the Rare Rank yet, he still had personally experienced the Void Autocrat, which allowed Whiteness to manipulate the Void Law instinctively.

That’s why he was able to easily nullify Undead Lich King’s Death Law with the Void and almost turn a Mythical Rank defense into nothingness. That was the true terror of the Void Law!

Nonetheless, he was still surprised that this Quasi-Myth Rank Undead, who seemed to be the one controlling this powerful barrier that had just stopped his shuttle from infiltrating inside, was able to defend against half of his power.

Furthermore, Jacob had long noticed the Staff of Sky Downfall, which even his Eyes of Judge couldn’t see through, and he knew that the staff was probably an Artifact beyond the Legendary Rank but still below the realm of a Divine Artifact.

‘Could he be the hidden existence of the Undead Skyfall Canyons who seemed to be after Elia?’ Jacob thought nonchalantly, ‘But then I shouldn’t kill him since letting him fight against the Mythical Coalition and the Order of Everlife holds more benefits for me.’

At that moment, the Undead Lich King finally felt Jacob’s indifference just like he had felt it towards ants, and a trace of dread he had long forgotten surfaced within him, but most of all, he felt humiliated.

His soul-fire flickered violently as he stared at the mysterious hooded existence before him and angrily questioned, “Who… are you?!”

Jacob retracted his fist and looked at the Undead Lich King behind the cracked barrier as it seemed to be mending, but he didn’t care much.

He replied coldly, “It doesn’t matter who I am; all you need to know is I can end you right here and now. So, as long as you lift this barrier and let me take someone, I’ll stay out of your way and let you get on with whatever you were doing.”

The Undead Lich King’s anger flared even more as there was no mistaking it anymore, as he could clearly feel the disdain in Jacob’s voice; the latter was looking down on the former.

But the might Undead Lich King, who prides himself as being unparalleled within the domain of the Undead Skyfall Canyons, felt humiliated like never before, especially with his master probably watching all of this.

In that moment, the Undead Lich King had already decided, and while channeling his full power for the first time since he had awakened in the Undead Skyfall Canyons, he roared, “O’ sacrilege mortal, die in misery!”
