Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1207: Primary Nightmare: The Hunter Arrives

Just as Jacob made some sense of this Primary Nightmare and wondered when or how Whiteness was going to show up, the next moment, everything changed.

All of a sudden, a ripple filled with sharp and predatory intent tore through the void, and all the low-ranking Zodiac Beasts froze in fear. Even Jacob felt a sense of dread rising from ‘his’ body, and some turned to flee, but it was too late.

The next instant, like a phantom, a blur moved through them, and without any chance to even scream or resistance, they died instantly.

Jacob felt it before he saw it, a presence filled with icy coldness and moving within the space like a fish in water, he knew too well, it was the Void Mantis, Whiteness!

One thing that Jacob felt slightly relieved about was that Whiteness wasn’t a god, not even a Legendary Rank Void Mantis yet.

‘So, he’s around Epic Rank in this Primary Nightmare!’ Jacob realized.

Although Jacob’s ‘role’ was of a mere rare rank cannon fodder within this Primary Nightmare, his real prowess was still there; it was just that he had learned to conceal it through trial and error.

Furthermore, the Concept of Anachronism allowed Jacob to conceal himself within a Dreamscape even more perfectly, and while using it meticulously, he can even show some of his prowess as long as he won’t expose his ‘identity’ and interfere with the direction of a Dreamscape too much unless he has gained higher authority within.

The more authority Jacob can devour, the more freedom he’ll gain to interfere with a dreamscape to the point when he doesn’t even need to relive every single one of Nightmares and Dreams, and could directly devour the entire Dreamscape.

Now that he had found Whiteness, Jacob realized that Whiteness was probably hunting and no longer rampaging and devouring randomly while constantly falling into life-threatening situations with powerful Zodiac Beasts he saw in those Fragmented Dreams and Nightmares.

Right now, Whiteness’s movement seemed deliberate and calculated as he first struck and then vanished, leaving no trace. He repeated this again and again, and every move was efficient, every kill intentional.

But Jacob felt something shift inside him as he noticed that Whiteness was avoiding the special Zodiac Beast and killing those Zodiac Beasts far away from it, carefully sending them into folds of space without leaving any evidence; it was as if he was gathering, not for survival but for preparation.

Just as Jacob was trying to guess Whiteness’s actions, he almost forgot that he was also in a similar situation to those other cannon fodder.

Right at that moment, Whiteness seemed to have turned toward him as Jacob’s entire existence sharpened. It wasn’t because he was important or he had been exposed, but because he was also prey, a low-ranking unit easily disposable.

The moment Whiteness moved, Jacob reacted instantly, as he had already expected this kind of scenario when he found himself as mere cannon fodder in this Primary Nightmare.

Jacob was prepared, and when he moved, not as himself but as the creature, and he fled with erratic and chaotic movements while meticulously using the Concept of Anachronism to faintly use the power of a Unique Rank, but just for ‘fleeing’.

Within that chaos, Jacob masterfully avoided Whiteness’s hunting while appearing as if he was about to be caught, and then suddenly another Zodiac Beast would appear, and he would move past them like a snake.

Moreover, Jacob adjusted direction slightly and headed toward the center, towards the ‘antagonist’ as he knew too well now that Whiteness was trying to avoid the special Zodiac Beast.

‘…You won’t come there,’ Jacob thought coldly.

Just as Jacob expected, Whiteness avoided that zone, and the moment the latter saw the slippery prey, it seemed deliberately heading towards its ‘master’, and shot it a deadly glare before quickly rushing back to finish whatever it wanted to do.

Jacob secretly felt Whiteness rushing back, but he didn’t stop and crossed the boundary while also avoiding the strongest Zodiac Beasts under it.

Moreover, Jacob noticed that despite its minion getting ambushed and killed, that guy didn’t even flinch, and those strongest Zodiac Beasts also didn’t move as if guarding it, and as long as Whiteness doesn’t come here, they won’t bother with whatever he’ll do.

However, Jacob was an anomaly, not only able to preserve his life but also to intrude into the vacant space, which seemed to be a special territory of the special Zodiac Beast, where not even the strongest Zodiac Beasts under its command were allowed.

The moment he did, everything changed, and Jacob realized why this place seemed like a ‘personal zone’ for only the strongest.

Jacob instantly felt the void grow denser and heavier, filled with the special energy of the Universal Void, the Void energy, and it was dense and heavily concentrated here.

At the center, the special Zodiac Beast and the antagonist, according to Jacob, were there.

Its physique was massive, and unlike other Zodiac Beasts, its form wasn’t chaotic but tangible, and it was absorbing the Void energy at a terrifying rate as if drawing in the void itself.

Its form pulsed with controlled power, and Jacob felt it as he grew closer. Even though it was a faint trace, there was no doubt about it.

‘Soul Force! So, it’s a Fable Legendary State Zodiac Beasts. No wonder it could gather so many Zodiac Beasts and control them because it is far beyond everything else here, including Whiteness…’ Jacob thought coldly.

Nevertheless, now that Jacob had confirmed what kind of entity he was dealing with, he didn’t hesitate and entered the concentrated zone of Void energy, directly akin to a low-ranking beast stepping into forbidden territory.

The moment he did, the reaction was immediate, as the entity seemed to flinch before slowly shifting its massive body towards Jacob, and its attention fell on the latter.

Jacob instantly felt a sharp, cold intent, filled with anger, but surprisingly, it wasn’t rage; it felt like irritation towards a tool that had stepped out of its ‘role’.

At that moment, Jacob knew this was the critical point, and if he wasn’t careful, it would not be just this Fable Legendary Zodiac Beast or epic rank Void Mantis coming after him, but the guardians of Whiteness’s Dreamscape!
