Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 622: Old Classmate Drops By, Can a Thief Even Understand What to Steal?

”This is the project I just finalized in Beijing.”

In a slightly rough-looking office, Xiao He handed the documents heʼd brought over to Xiang Chuan.

Although heʼd already heard about this matter before, everyone knows bosses like to paint rosy pictures. As for whether the meal would actually end up on the table, that was another story entirely. So Xiang Chuan accepted the documents very cautiously, carefully reviewing the contents to confirm the projectʼs status and the collaborationʼs progress.

The project Xiao He mentioned was, naturally, the AI-assisted technology for rescue drones.

Currently, this technology had already been officially registered under Heguang Technologyʼs name.

Put simply, Xiao He would license his existing AI technology to drone companies, allowing them to combine it with their own drone systems to produce more advanced and powerful rescue drones than what was currently on the market.

If this were before, Xiao He would have simply sold the technology outright, like heʼd done with those previous software programs. But now that heʼd established a company and was holding onto this growth-type AI technology with room for continued development, Xiao He naturally wouldnʼt just sell it. Instead, he would offer licensing agreements to various companies.

The advantage of this approach was twofold: they could achieve continuous multi-channel revenue while retaining ownership of the core technology. They could also continue researching and developing newer, better versions in the future.

This was a massive goldmine. Given the international trends of recent years, the demand from higher authorities for this field was enormous.

As long as they kept developing it, this project would inevitably become a money-printing machine.
Even if he stopped earning in the entertainment industry altogether, this alone would allow Xiao He to live out the rest of his life in comfort.

Xiang Chuan took a deep breath, put down the documents, and said very seriously, ”I already have a rough plan regarding the hiring. But as for the future development of this technology...”

”For now, they just need to maintain it.”

Xiao He clasped his hands together and didnʼt make things difficult for Xiang Chuan at this moment.

Talent wasnʼt something you could just find like picking up cabbages. Although he did have a few people recommended by his teacher, it would still take time to understand them and win them over.

For now, building the team was still a long-term task.

Just then, their companyʼs only other employee besides Xiang Chuan—and also their only security guard—knocked to remind them, ”Boss, someoneʼs here to see you.”

Xiao He immediately stood up and strode out.

Xiang Chuan, however, looked puzzled.

They hadnʼt even posted their hiring notices yet. Who would be visiting their tiny new company right now?

—

As soon as he stepped out, Xiang Chuan saw his boss walking in with a smile, accompanied by another young man who was also laughing and chatting.

”You didnʼt really get hot-headed and decide to come work for me in this rundown place, did you? Because that would actually give me a headache.”

”What? Youʼre not happy to see me?”

”Hey, itʼs mainly because, as you can see, this place isnʼt even fully set up yet. Iʼm afraid you might not get used to it.”

”Are you referring to that equipment room worth nearly ten million?”

”Oh, young man, good eye.”

Xiao He leaned casually against the doorframe and tilted his head backward. ”That pile of messy parts and cables hasnʼt even been assembled yet, but you spotted it right away.”

”Iʼve worked in several labs, after all. Iʼm familiar with this kind of equipment.” Dai Bo shook his head helplessly. ”But why are you just leaving all this stuff out in the open like this? Arenʼt you afraid of someone stealing it?”

When heʼd arrived, he noticed there was only one security guard at the entrance.

If a thief swiped just about anything from that equipment room, theyʼd be looking at several years behind bars. Xiao He really wasnʼt worried about someone breaking in, huh?

Xiao He shrugged and said with the air of a wealthy man, ”If this stuff were left here, a thief probably wouldnʼt even understand what to steal.”

Sometimes, people really canʼt earn beyond their level of understanding.

An ordinary thief would probably just sneak in to steal a computer or a tablet.

But who would have guessed?

The data cables lying on the floor were actually high-speed active optical cables, worth fifty thousand each.

Those things plugged into the server that looked like heatsink circuit boards? Those were computing boards, costing over a hundred and twenty thousand apiece...

There was all kinds of random professional-grade expensive hardware lying around here. The big items couldnʼt be carried away, and the small items wouldnʼt be recognized for what they were worth. So what could anyone do?

Dai Bo was so annoyed he laughed. ”Do you hear yourself? Is that even something a person should say?”

Xiang Chuan, feeling the pain deeply, was almost shedding tears.

God knew how many sleepless nights heʼd had worrying about the value of the ”miscellaneous items” piled up here. He was constantly terrified, wishing he could guard the company gate day and night to keep thieves away.

But Xiao He, on the other hand, had just left the stuff here and hadnʼt even come to check on it for so long.

Faced with their accusations, Xiao He could only raise his hand and point at the surveillance cameras in various directions. ”Come on, weʼre supposed to be a tech company. We do have some anti-theft systems in place.”

It wasnʼt that Xiao He truly didnʼt care about such expensive equipment. It was that heʼd already set up a net so tight that thieves couldnʼt escape. Forget about taking anything—if they were bold enough to step inside, theyʼd be the unlucky ones.

Dai Bo looked around and nodded with relative satisfaction.

”I heard youʼve already secured a project? Can I take a look?”

”Sure.”

They were old classmates, so Xiao He wasnʼt worried about leaks. He handed the documents directly to Dai Bo.

Dai Bo looked it over for a while, his expression growing increasingly serious, but his eyes growing brighter. He glanced at Xiao He and asked, ”Was this AI development done by you alone before?”

This time, Xiao Heʼs gaze really did start to waver.

The main thing was, during their four years of university, theyʼd been roommates. They knew each otherʼs abilities inside and out.

Back then, whenever there were coding problems, theyʼd always come to this top student to solve them.

At least before heʼd acquired the hacker golden finger, Xiao Heʼs research and development abilities were far inferior to Dai Boʼs.

Some gaps you only truly understand in university.

Obviously, both of them studied the same material, yet Xiao He could only mechanically type code and run programs, while some people could immediately draw inferences and learn how to write the exact commands they wanted, successfully solving everyone elseʼs problems.

Maybe that was the special quality of a true R&D talent.

”Yeah.”

Xiao He could only brace himself and say.

Dai Bo stared at Xiao He for a while, as if thinking about something, then finally slapped Xiao He hard on the back.

”Dammit, kid, youʼve been pretending to be dumb in front of me all along, havenʼt you? No wonder the teacher always said you had potential, always saying you werenʼt on the right path!”

”Great, you start a company and you werenʼt going to bring me along? Have you forgotten your roots? Get my office and position ready right now! Five social insurances and one housing fund—no cutting corners—and weekends off! If you dare to be a heartless capitalist, youʼre finished!!!”

Xiao Heʼs ears were ringing from Dai Boʼs roar. Rubbing them, he nodded submissively.

But wait... was this how Professor Yuan Ling had been talking about him behind his back?

Xiao Heʼs mouth twitched.

Uh, from a certain perspective, Professor Yuan wasnʼt wrong. He really hadnʼt taken the righteous path.

”Achoo—”

Far away at Hu University, Yuan Ling suddenly sneezed.

”Whatʼs this about?”

He rubbed his nose and gazed thoughtfully out the window.

”Come to think of it, little Dai should have already arrived at Xiao Xiaoʼs company, right?”

”Hmph, those two brats are probably gossiping about me behind my back.”
