Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 570: A Large-Scale Historical Costume Drama Project? Everyone’s Fighting Over It!

The video on Bilibili went viral overnight.

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Xiao He had just begun removing his makeup and washing up.

Liu Rulan was still making calls to various parties, maintaining personal relationships.

Finally, she called Old Zhong and Old Xu from the judging panel separately, expressing her sincere gratitude to them.

Old Xu and Liu Rulan had been in contact since the Shu Han era, so their conversation was more casual and familiar. Old Xu greatly appreciated Xiao Heʼs performance today and promised over the phone that he could be contacted if needed in the future, then hung up.

As for Old Zhong, because Xiao He had helped his student by stepping in for that scene, he had been holding onto that favor in his heart. So, before hanging up, he tactfully reminded Liu Rulan, ”I made some inquiries about todayʼs matter. It seems thereʼs a historical drama project next year that the official authorities are preparing to support and promote. Itʼs a very important opportunity, and everyone in this circle is eyeing it... You should be careful.”

Liu Rulan was instantly jolted: ”So that rumor is actually true?”

She had indeed heard this news recently while networking in Beijing, but despite privately investigating for a long time and asking people in He Wenmingʼs network, she had never managed to get any concrete information.

She never would have imagined—

-
”A historical drama project?”

Xiao He looked at Liu Rulan with some surprise.

”Yes, a rare historical costume drama. The higher-ups havenʼt launched a project like this for a very long time.”

Liu Rulan couldnʼt hide the excitement on her face.

Officially supported projects are usually scripts and production teams prioritized for support by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. They are typically big-budget, large-scale productions and receive traffic support across various channels. For actors who can participate, it is undoubtedly very advantageous.

Itʼs just that historical drama projects leaning towards period costumes have become much rarer lately. Most revolve around modern history, especially classic roles and stories from the nation-building period. The last such historical costume work told a story from the relatively recent Qing Dynasty era. The actors from that project have all become veteran actors now, possessing extremely high national recognition. Even the child actors got a piece of the pie, becoming child stars and thriving in the industry today.

Therefore, this large-scale historical costume drama project, after who knows how many years, is destined to be quite special.

”The main responsible party for this project is Beijingʼs Jingyou Entertainment. Theyʼve been keeping this matter tightly under wraps, probably intending to carve up all the important roles before the news leaks.”

Hearing this news, Xiao He also became curious: ”Which historical era is the background?”

”I donʼt have detailed information yet, but Iʼll continue asking around.”

Liu Rulan then suddenly realized, ”No wonder those people in Beijing suddenly attacked you. Your recent period drama has been making a huge splash, and now youʼve successfully won the Dual Best Actor award. They must be even more wary of you.”

Originally, there werenʼt enough standout roles in a single project to go around. If Xiao He also barged in, they definitely wouldnʼt be happy.

In the past, Xiao He wasnʼt even qualified to enter their circle, but now that Xiao He has risen, his enemies have become more numerous than before—

After listening, Xiao He wasnʼt worried, just gave a cold laugh: ”Well, thatʼs not really up to them.”

They want to take this chance to suppress him?

Hehe, heʼs definitely going to snatch this script!

”Iʼll continue inquiring about the historical drama for you. As for those who launched the smear campaign against you, I wonʼt let them off easy either. I have some dirt on my hands too. Theyʼll probably have their hands full,” Liu Rulan said.

Xiao He raised an eyebrow: ”Need me to sprinkle some more seasoning?”

Liu Rulan shrugged: ”Up to you.”

Xiao He said ”Oh”: ”Then Iʼll just casually get a few more big accounts banned. Consider it saving them some labor costs.”

As for whether those people would feel the sting, that wasnʼt their concern.

Oh, almost forgot, did they pay their taxes? Could it be they didnʼt?

Goodness, then as an outstanding citizen, he naturally has to exercise his supervisory duty.

That needs to be reported to the relevant departments too...

Xiao He continued typing on his keyboard without pause, while Liu Rulan went out to make more calls.

When she returned, Xiao He was already leisurely drinking water, lazily watching the online situation, and Liu Rulanʼs face was once again brimming with a smile: ”After sending Teacher Bai back tomorrow morning, weʼll be returning to Shanghai.”

”Speaking of which, you should have already received the script for ʼThief Catcher 2ʼ, right? I heard Young Director Linʼs mother will also participate in the upcoming filming. Iʼve mentioned her situation to you before. When youʼre both on set together later, mind your manners.”

”Mm, donʼt worry, I know.”

Xiao He nodded casually.

Lin Yipengʼs mother, Qu Qiuyan, was a national goddess in her early years. Due to an accident that left her disfigured, she no longer appears in front of the camera.

She will play the landlady of the Penglai Inn in ”Thief Catcher 2,” which is Shen Jueʼs boss.

And perhaps because Qu Qiuyan was the prototype for the landlady when Lin Yipeng created the character, in the storyline, the landlady of the Penglai Inn was also harmed by evildoers in her early years, her face completely ruined. She eventually came to this backward, remote mountain foot and opened an ordinary little inn.

In the story of ”Thief Catcher 2,” Xiao He, who plays Shen Jue, will have many scenes opposite Qu Qiuyan.

The fact that ”Thief Catcher 2” has been delayed for so long before starting filming shows that Qu Qiuyanʼs heart must be full of struggle, and Lin Yipeng definitely made a lot of effort.

No one is sure what this senior is thinking in her heart now. If she were made uncomfortable or anything, then Xiao He would offend Lin Jiexiu, a major director in the Shanghai circle.

That could get a bit troublesome then.

Xiao He felt somewhat helpless: ”Relax, Sister Liu, Iʼm not that low on emotional intelligence, am I?”

”Alright, Iʼm just reminding you as per the normal process.”

Liu Rulan shrugged.

...

After returning to Shanghai, Xiao He prepared to enter the ”Thief Catcher 2” production next, and the official Weibo for ”Thief Catcher” soon officially announced this.

However, this news was quickly drowned out in the discussions among netizens. More people were still talking about Xiao He winning the Best Actor award, as currently the most buzzworthy topic in the entertainment industry is undoubtedly Xiao He. With great honor comes great responsibility.

Logically, this situation would require deleting comments and clarifying to prevent more uninformed casual observers from being swayed. But seizing this opportunity, Liu Rulan counter-purchased opponent water armies and began building momentum.

Thus, many ambiguous marketing account videos appeared online.

[The youngest Dual Best Actor in China appears! But the actor is a villain specialist? Presumably many have seen his works and know his name. However, compared to other contenders, his age, seniority, and even the character archetypes in his works offer no advantage. Before the awards were announced, the whole internet was predicting failure, yet he ultimately defeated a large group of veteran actors to become the Golden Flower Award-Winning Actor. What exactly did he rely on?]

[The Golden Flower Award for Best Actor is out, and the youngest candidate becomes the Best Actor? A review of all Best Actor-winning roles from the past ten years...]

[Who do you think is the biggest dark horse of this yearʼs Golden Flower Awards? Does the winner differ from who you imagined? Check the comment section to see othersʼ thoughts...]

When seeing these marketing accountsʼ statements, the Little Box fans were naturally still very angry.

Clearly, Xiao Heʼs ability is solid. This time he finally managed to win the Golden Flower Award-Winning Actor and became the youngest Dual Best Actor in Chinese history in one go, holding hit and high box office works, with solid skills. Yet those people are slandering and spreading rumors without any logic, casting a shadow over Xiao Heʼs Best Actor win.

Is it that even if young people today are excellent enough, they still have to swallow your outdated notion of seniority and paying dues?

Xiao Heʼs acting is good, his performance is better than others. Is him winning an award such a shocking thing?

Moreover, before the awards were announced, Xiao Heʼs betting odds werenʼt low at all! Many marketing accounts and bloggers had bet on Xiao He!

So, not only were the Little Box fans angry, even some casual observers couldnʼt stand it anymore.
